Quick and Easy Birthday Card

Hello everyone, its Angela here with you today with a quick and easy birthday card. It was our oldest Son's 15th birthday on Monday and I honestly can't believe where the last 15 years have gone! I made this card for him as he is not really into anything in particular at all (apart from computer games like most other teenagers around here)

First I made a card blank for an easel card by taking a 12 by 6 inch piece of card and scoring it at 6" and 3" as you can see below

With the other side of the 12 x 12 sheet I used some spray inks and the numbers from the Mixed Media Fragments 1 to create backgrounds - I cut the sheet in  half first so the 2 bits would be different.

I then used the parcels, hat, balloon and sentiment from the Birthday set. First I painted them with a white paint pen. I then took some distress inks to ink up the sentiment however I didn't like the effect it gave me over the paint pen as it was way too light. I then took out some of my Copic pens and coloured them with those instead - this gave me a much better result.

Once everything was the colour I wanted it I decided that the sentiment needed a bit of highlighting so out came a thinner white paint pen to do this with.

I cut the 2 background cards down to give me an edge around them so one was 5 3/4" square and the other one was cut into 2 pieces 2 3/4" x 5 3/4".

I stuck these to the aforementioned card blank.

The other pieces were then stuck on the folded top (being careful not to apply glue in to the top or they would stick to the card and not fold out.

Gypsy Journal with Gypsy Soul and 7Gypsies/Canvas Corp

Hey there crafty friends! I'm excited at the chance to combine goodies from two great companies to put together a fun project; as soon as I saw the 5x7 Naked Journal, I knew I wanted to work with it! I just happened to have some older 7Gypsies paper in my stash that worked great with the newer line, and I put it all together to create what I have called my "Gypsy Journal":

I used the burlap for the cover; I just love the natural, earthy feel and texture of burlap and thought it would create a great backdrop for the Botanical journalling block from GSLC and the other pieces I used.
I painted the journalling block gold, then brushed it with crackle finish; when that was dry I finished it with black acrylic paint and then ran jute through the holes along the edge.

On this page, the chipboard pieces were painted black, then heat embossed in clear before being treated with Dusty Attic Rust Paste and Prima Aged Brass Wax. I used crumpled pieces of a sewing pattern and some similar-coloured burlap as added embellishments.

For this page, the image from the paper takes center stage, but I added a music note which was heat-embossed first with Ranger Antiquities California Stucco, then Lindy's Adobe Fire. A tulle skirt and gemstone "sun" add some extra dimension.

This page features quotes from both the Wanderlust and Gypsy Moments collections-I love how well they work together! I covered the chipboard balloon in patterned paper, then sanded and inked the edges; the horseshoe was heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Copper embossing powder. The feather is real; I found it on the ground at work the other day!(I work at a golf course)

I started this page with an Architextures background, then used the Architextures baskets sticker and an image & quote from the Gypsy Moments paper as the focal points here. I then added the baggage ticket from the Wanderlust paper and the lasercut propeller and hasp. Both pieces were painted black, then rubbed with silver ink. It doesn't take much to alter your chipboard pieces to match any page theme or colour scheme; that's something I love about them!

The chipboard doodles here were painted black then heat-embossed with Lindy's Midnight Gold.

I absolutely loved this image from the Wanderlust paper but had a bit of a freakout when I realized I also loved something from the other side of the paper...(the struggle is real....sigh....) so I used the upper part of the image  and saved the rest for the following page! I thought these celestial pieces were perfect accompaniments to this image; the moon was dry-embossed with this Darice stencil, then painted antique white and brushed with Perfect Pearls. The stars were painted burgundy then brushed with Perfect Pearls as well.I dabbed a tiny bit of water onto my brush to make a paste with the powders.

I loved the door image along with the Milton Berle quote, so created a 2-page spread here. The Architextures wheel sticker was lightly brushed with Aged Brass wax, which I also used on the GSLC lock. The Parchment rub ons are fabulous; they go on so easily and are full of great images and quotes! By the way, I used packaging from the journal on this page-it's the beige patterned rectangle in the middle!

There are six pages left in the journal, and I plan to add quotes, images and embellishments I find that speak to me of the "free my gypsy spirit" theme. Pretty Pink Birthday Card

Hello and good morning! It's Gloria with you today. I made a pretty, pink birthday card to share. I don't get to use much "little girl" pink, since my children are young adults and none of them like pink! I let out my inner grandmother today and made a sweet pink card!

This card is a whopping 8" x 6"! I wanted something substantial, and perfect for adding a gift card to the inside. There is just something extra special about an over-sized card!

To create this card, start out by inking the birthday sentiment from the Birthday Shape Set with cupid pigment ink. Cover the inked chipboard with bubble gum scented embossing powder and heat set. (Yes, I said bubble gum scented embossing powder! And it really does smell like bubble gum, even after it's heated and cooled!)

Ink one of the shapes from the Little Dancers set with pepper pigment ink. Allow the ink to dry.

Create the card base by cutting one piece of black cardstock to 8" x 6". Cut a second piece of black cardstock to 8 1/2" x 6". Score at 1/2" from the top edge. Fold and burnish on the score line. Attach strong, double-sided tape to the 1/2" tab. Attach the two pieces of cardstock together to create a top-fold card, 8" tall and 6" wide.

Cut dark pink cardstock to 7 7/8" x 5 7/8" and attach the panel to the card front. Cut pink dotted paper to 7 3/4" x 5 3/4" and attach the panel to the card front. Glue the birthday chipboard sentiment to the top of the card, approximately 1/2" from the top edge.

Use a stitched die cut template to cut textured white cardstock to approximately 5 1/4" x 4" and attach the panel to the left side of the card. Use a stitched die cut template to cut dark pink cardstock to 4 3/4" x 3 1/2" and attach the panel to the white cardstock. Use a stitched scallop die cut template to cut printed cardstock to approximately 4 1/2" x 3 1/4". Attach the printed panel to the dark pink cardstock.

Attach the large doily (Intricate Cardstock Doily Set) to the card front as shown. Glue the little dancer shape to the left side of the card.

Glue a selection of flowers to the card, overlapping the doily as shown. Place two decorative pins into the top right section of flowers. Place pink and black sequins onto the card as desired.

Cut two pieces of dark pink cardstock to 7 7/8" x 5 7/8" and attach them to the inside panels of the card. Cut two pieces of white cardstock to 7 3/4" x 5 3/4" and attach them to the dark pink panels. Stamp a sentiment onto the white panel on the inside of the card with black ink. Cut strips of pink dot paper and attach them to the top and bottom panels.

Celebrate!!! 90th Birthday Card and Gift Bag by Lynne

Well hi there folks! A dear friend of mine is having her 90th birthday the end of September (and a surprise party...SHHHH!) so I  decided to create a card and a little gift bag especially for her.

I used Blue Fern Studios "Frolic" papers to cover the card and bag and added a little edge punching with a Martha Stewart punch. I inked the edges in a soft pink and did a bunch of fussy cutting which I popped up in spots with foam tape for dimension.

   

The cake piece was fun to decorate; to simulate the look of cake I mixed a little salt in with  the yellow acrylic paint. he icing is texture paste sprinkled with micro-beads and the candle is patterned paper run through an embossing folder then heat-embossed with clear embossing powder. The flame of the candle was heat-embossed in antique gold then rubbed with a little orangey-red ink.

The heart border strip single heart and gifts outline were primed with white gesso then heat-embossed with Bridal Tinsel glitter embossing powder. I then used a glue pen on them

before covering them with white glitter. (My friend likes sparkly things!!)

The gifts were covered in patterned papers;  I used a different paper for each package to give more contrast then I added the outline piece that was all glittered up. I love all the pieces in the Birthday Shape set but I  think these gifts are my very favourite!

Masculine and Feminine Birthday Cards by Lynne

Happy Birthday! What? Not your birthday? Not mine either but I'm sure it must be somebody's birthday! After creating my recent birthday reminder project, I realized there was a major shortage of cards in my stash that were ready to be mailed or delivered when I needed one. I figured it was a good time to put a couple together and a great chance to use some great chipboard pieces!

For the masculine card I distressed and layered squares and rectangles of paper after inking the edges.
The "happy birthday" piece was run through an embossing folder then painted with brown acrylic paint. I rubbed gold paint lightly over the surface to highlight the embossed gear pattern.

The gears and tools were painted with the same brown paint before I heat-embossed them with Distress embossing powder to create a rusty effect.

The feminine card includes some fussy-cutting as well as inking and distressing; I loved the pattern in the green paper and wanted to make it stand out. The chipboard pieces were run through an embossing folder then painted pink. I rubbed them with an iridescent white ink to emphasize the raised pattern.I then rubbed a bit of pink ink along the very edges.

I love the way the round frame echoes the shape of the metal sentiment and the way the butterfly adds dimension! Now all I have to do is remember to check my birthday reminder tags far enough ahead to actually send someone one of these birthday cards in time!! Hmmm...maybe I should stick the tag on something I use often - like my tea kettle?? Or my laptop??

Catch your Dreams Canvas

Hi crafty people! This week I decided to create a mixed media canvas with a quote from a sheet of Kaisercraft "Be-YOU-tiful" paper and lots of awesome Gina's goodies.

 After figuring out where I wanted everything, I added the stenciling, primed the canvas and all the pieces were covered with gesso, and then glued them on. I then painted the entire project with gold acrylic paint before adding several different colours of mist. Some I dried between colours and others I didn't. This created a marbled effect in some spots. I also dabbed at some areas with a wad of paper towel to create a mottled effect and remove larger spots of mist. To define the edges a bit more, I dry brushed the pieces with black acrylic paint.

After everything was dry, I slid the quote into place (I had glued only the top of the arrow one side of the flowers, and only part of the key so this would be possible). I had a great time putting this together and getting messy with the mist and paint was so much fun! Have yourself a terrific weekend and be sure to find time to get messy!

Botanical Tea-Birthday card and tag

Hi, Lynne here with a card and tag made with the lovely Graphic 45 Botanical Tea collection and Gina's Birthday Shape Set and Spring Shape Set. Two of my good friends have July birthdays and this card was made for one of them and included a "voucher" for girls' lunch out one day soon.

I covered the lower part of the chipboard cupcake with pleated paper top create the look of a baking cup, then used texture paste for the "icing", on which I sprinkled glass glitter. The candle was painted with acrylic paints and the flame was created with cheesecloth and Gelatos. The sentiment was painted with pearlized acrylic paint then rubbed lightly with pink paint along the top.

Here's the inside of the card; I used a fun pop-up design.

Continuing the theme of the Botanical Tea papers, I used a bird and a dragonfly from the Spring Shape Set. The bird was covered with patterned paper and then I added a wing with foam tape and inked the edges. The dragonfly was painted with pearlized paint then lightly rubbed with wedgewood blue paint.
