Gypsy Journal with Gypsy Soul and 7Gypsies/Canvas Corp

Hey there crafty friends! I'm excited at the chance to combine goodies from two great companies to put together a fun project; as soon as I saw the 5x7 Naked Journal, I knew I wanted to work with it! I just happened to have some older 7Gypsies paper in my stash that worked great with the newer line, and I put it all together to create what I have called my "Gypsy Journal":

I used the burlap for the cover; I just love the natural, earthy feel and texture of burlap and thought it would create a great backdrop for the Botanical journalling block from GSLC and the other pieces I used.
I painted the journalling block gold, then brushed it with crackle finish; when that was dry I finished it with black acrylic paint and then ran jute through the holes along the edge.

On this page, the chipboard pieces were painted black, then heat embossed in clear before being treated with Dusty Attic Rust Paste and Prima Aged Brass Wax. I used crumpled pieces of a sewing pattern and some similar-coloured burlap as added embellishments.

For this page, the image from the paper takes center stage, but I added a music note which was heat-embossed first with Ranger Antiquities California Stucco, then Lindy's Adobe Fire. A tulle skirt and gemstone "sun" add some extra dimension.

This page features quotes from both the Wanderlust and Gypsy Moments collections-I love how well they work together! I covered the chipboard balloon in patterned paper, then sanded and inked the edges; the horseshoe was heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Copper embossing powder. The feather is real; I found it on the ground at work the other day!(I work at a golf course)

I started this page with an Architextures background, then used the Architextures baskets sticker and an image & quote from the Gypsy Moments paper as the focal points here. I then added the baggage ticket from the Wanderlust paper and the lasercut propeller and hasp. Both pieces were painted black, then rubbed with silver ink. It doesn't take much to alter your chipboard pieces to match any page theme or colour scheme; that's something I love about them!

The chipboard doodles here were painted black then heat-embossed with Lindy's Midnight Gold.

I absolutely loved this image from the Wanderlust paper but had a bit of a freakout when I realized I also loved something from the other side of the paper...(the struggle is real....sigh....) so I used the upper part of the image  and saved the rest for the following page! I thought these celestial pieces were perfect accompaniments to this image; the moon was dry-embossed with this Darice stencil, then painted antique white and brushed with Perfect Pearls. The stars were painted burgundy then brushed with Perfect Pearls as well.I dabbed a tiny bit of water onto my brush to make a paste with the powders.

I loved the door image along with the Milton Berle quote, so created a 2-page spread here. The Architextures wheel sticker was lightly brushed with Aged Brass wax, which I also used on the GSLC lock. The Parchment rub ons are fabulous; they go on so easily and are full of great images and quotes! By the way, I used packaging from the journal on this page-it's the beige patterned rectangle in the middle!

There are six pages left in the journal, and I plan to add quotes, images and embellishments I find that speak to me of the "free my gypsy spirit" theme. Vintage Hanging Album by Lynne

Hello crafters! I love working with vintage photos and was blessed to receive a bunch of them from one of my cousins a while back; many of these photos are about 100 years old! I've made scrapbook layouts with several of the images, and recently decided to make a small heritage album for the cousin who passed the photos on to me to show my appreciation:

I used the Wood Hanging Stand and chose the Baroque pages (there are three different page shapes to choose from, or you can get 2 of each shape).

The first thing I did was cover all the pages with patterned paper; I used the aptly named "Heritage" collection from BoBunny. The warm rich colours go so well with my sepia photos! After tracing the shapes and applying the paper, I sanded the edges gently then inked them with Burnt Sienna ink:

I incorporated some chipboard frames and embellishments into some of my pages as well; this wagon wheel was painted brown, then heat embossed with Pebbled Copper embossing powder.

The dress form was just rubbed with Prima Metallique Wax in Aged Brass and inked on the edges with Ranger Antique Linen distress ink. I fussy cut  flowers from my paper and added those as well.

The key and plate I left "naked", but just rubbed a little of the Aged Brass wax here and there on the surfaces.

This frame was painted a dusty rose colour, then stamped with this Prima stamp and Versamark ink, then heat embossed in Chablis.

This frame was dry embossed, then painted burgundy. I then lightly brushed gold paint over it, and finally rubbed some of the Aged Brass wax here and there.

The music shapes wee painted a deep red then heat embossed with a coat of UTEE for an enamel-like glossy finish:

The horse and carriage piece was painted a rusty brown, then heat embossed with Ranger Distress embossing powder in Vintage Photo. Afterwards, I rubbed-GUESS WHAT??-yes,you guessed it- Aged Brass Wax here and there over the surface (I'm nothing if not consistent!)

There are six pages included with the standing frame; on this post I've included the pages that featured additional Gypsy Soul chipboard. I plan to add small labels to each page with the names of the subjects and approximate dates before giving the album to my cousin (just haven't gotten them looked up and printed yet!).If you'd like to see the remaining pages in the album, please visit my blog at:

Sing your own song....an altered record

hey crafty people! As my first post here for 2017, I thought I'd do something kind of different that I've been thinking about doing for a while...I thought that a record would make an interesting round "canvas" for a music-themed mixed media project and this is what I came up with:

I got my record at a thrift store; it was a double set and I paid a whole 50c for the two of them!

The first thing I did was brush the whole thing with gesso; I did two coats, as covering a shiny surface is a little trickier. I also gessoed the main chipboard piece I was planning to use on the project.

I figured out where I wanted to put everything, then I added some stenciling with texture paste, using a script stencil and one that created small "coffee rings".

When the texture paste was dry, I attached all the items; I also added a few pieces of drywall tape for texture. I get it at the dollar store; it has an adhesive back and is great for crafting. If your dollar store doesn't carry it, it's available at any hardware store.

I added a coat of gesso to the whole piece; I used a sponge to apply it to the bare record parts to minimize the brush strokes, but this isn't necessary-you can do the whole thing with a brush. Just be sure to get in the grooves of the flowers and other dimensional embellishments so that everything is white.

Now comes the fun part! Choose some mists you like ( I used blues and greens and a pop of pinkish-red) and spray lightly here and there until you get an effect you're happy with. If it goes on spotty or too dark, dab with a paper towel or sponge while it's still wet. I also keep a bottle of Mr. Huey's Opaque White mist around to tome down any colours that look too bright or dark after it's dried. I like to work with my project laying down so the mists don't run although I know some people really like the drippy effect. I'm just too much of a control freak to let the mist dribble wherever it wants, I guess.

Once I was happy with the colours (this did take a while, so don't get discouraged if you don't like the look right away. I have even had projects that I gessoed over and restarted, but happily this wasn't one of them!)I inked the letters and the edges of the chipboard pieces in a deep blue to make them stand out a little more. You can choose to add more or less contrast, as you prefer.

The last thing I did was find a shank button that would fit in the hole in the center; I ran a piece of twine through it to make a hanger and glued the button down.Otherwise trying to hang this could be interesting; I just don't quite trust those sticky hook things!
