Do Something Splendid - Book Box

Hello and happy Monday, this is Yolie kicking off the week. Today I am sharing the Hidden Drawer Book Box altered with one of my favorite paper collection.

GSLC has two sizes of the Hidden Drawer Book Box, I used the small size that measures 4 1/4" x 6 1/4". Before altering, I detached all the pieces and with a damp paper towel cleaned off the soot left behind from the laser cuts. 

Next, I gathered up papers, stickers and chipboard from the Little Women collection by Graphic 45. Hands down one of my favorite collections. I used Beacon's Power-Tac to assemble the box and Mod Podge Matte spray to adhere the paper.

Before assembling the box, I measured the inside and outside panels of the drawer and trimmed the paper to size. I inked all the edges with a dauber and black ink. I then assembled the box and used Beacon's Power-Tac to glue down the pieces. I held the front panel of the drawer with 2 binder clips and allowed to dry for 5 hours.

I used Mod Podge Matte Spray to cover the box and once dried, I attached the handle to the drawer and decorated the front panel of the box.
I used a resin flower layered on gold string and surrounded by black rhinestones and gold dome embellishments.

Inside the drawer, I included a couple of pockets and tags.

I need a Hidden Drawer Book Box for each of my favorite books. The challenge is finding the paper.

Thankful for Family Mini pocket book

I am really excited to share with you all today a fun little book that you can really do alot with.  It's a mini book with tags and for mine i am making this to send with a little tag card inside with a message and also a tag to attach a gift card for them.  I chose lots of pretty fall papers and tags to decorate my book and also this gorgeous Arched window that i shaded with chalk inks.

Inside the book there are flaps on both bottom edges and I added cute papers to each and that is where the tags slip in.  For the ivory tag I made it like a little card so that I can write a message inside.

And just for a fun idea you can pop up the window to make it stand out more with 3D foam dots.  I added some under my flowers and also added a bit of ivory twine.  I think she is really going to like it

And this shows the tags inside the mini book.  They are a little tall so I cut them down first before I added the papers on them.  It makes it more of a surprise to have all those cute things inside and not be seen .... you could even add a couple of cute photos too.

This was a fun project you could do in an afternoon and there is also a smaller ATC size that is 

perfect for gift cards.  I will have to make that up to share too !!

Mine Tags Taste like Honey

I have always been drawn to encaustic art, yet I have never quite managed to begin the process for using it in my own crafting. For quite awhile I had been planning on using Gypsy Soul's Honeycomb & Bees in an encaustic project--because shouldn't every honeycomb project be created with beeswax?

That is why I was delighted when Seth Apter developed his Vintage Beeswax Embossing Powder. I combined the Honeycomb & Bees with the Embossing Powder to create a faux encaustic look on  three golden honey-colored tags.

To make the tags, I began by collaging vintage dictionary pages about bees onto manilla tags.

Next I cut the Honeycomb into sections and painted them and two of the bees 

with yellow paint. When dry, I added flecks of white paint and inked the edges with brown ink.

I hope you forgive me, but I had so much fun creating these tags that I forgot to take photos of the next few steps.

I spritzed the tags with Tattered Leather Spray and dried them with a heat gun. I then flicked droplets of High Impact and Glimmer Glam Paint onto the tags. After drying with a heat gun, I inked the edges of the tags with brown ink. 

Next I dabbed tiny drops of glue randomly on the tags and added gold flakes to the tags. I also covered one of the bees with gold flakes.  

After adhering the honeycomb and bees to the tags, I covered each of the tags in embossing ink and coated with Vintage Beeswax embossing powder. I set the powder with a heat gun and repeated this process four more times to give the tags the encaustic look. 

Finally, I painted each tag with matte medium to remove the glossiness. After the tags were dry, I threaded ivory ribbons through the holes.

Starry Tag Set with Tutorial

This month for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts I've used their 3 tag set(stagger tags, coming soon) to create something starry and dreamy.

With some layers of paint, chipboard stars and glitter those kraft coloured tags are transformed.

They are the perfect backdrop for the sentiments and vintage images found on THIS Stars and Dreamers Collage Sheet (which is totally free to download because I love you.)

If you need a little guidance putting these beauties together, I've put together a video tutorial for you.

I do use a fair few layers of colour... but I honestly think that multiple washes add a depth of colour and visual interest that is incomparable to a slap of thick paint.

But hey! if a thick coat of acrylic is your thing... go for it! Art and craft is all about YOU, the maker. I wholeheartedly encourage you to do what works for you.

Happy Birthday to you...

Hi and welcome to the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog today.  I have a fun and easy project to share with all of you using some of our large tags and the Birthday Shape set.  Grab a cup of coffee and join me to see how I did these fun to make tags with simple inks and embossing powders.

To begin this project you will need a set of the large chipboard tags, the birthday shape set and a few of the flower stackers that you see above.  Before I start all my projects that I  do,  I like to lay out all my pieces so that I can see what colors that I need and get an idea of what other papers and goodies I can use.  This is the fun part and you can use lots of those things in your stash too.

I picked this cute plaid paper from MFT for the base of my tags and traced around each of the them and glued them to the front and backs.  After they were dry I sanded around each of them with a file to get rid of any uneven edges. Then I punched the hole at the top of each for ribbons later.

Then I got out some of my favorite inks and dabbed them on the top of each of the pieces and then embossed it with clear or white embossing powder to set the inks.

For the presents I wanted to create a more watercolor effect so I dabbed on the inks into each area of the presents and the bows to color them and shade them.  Then I embossed with clear powder.  

I love that this piece has a window that goes over it... It makes it look like stained glass.

I also inked around the edges of the tags to make them a bit more vintage and match the chipboard.

And lastly--after I inked all my pieces and let them dry I glued them onto the tags and added a Happy Birthday stamp, ribbons and glitter to each of them.  It was super fun to try something new with the inks and now I have pretty tags to add to my birthday bags when I need them.

Woodland Themed Merry Little Christmas Card

Hello, Friends!  It's Kathy here with a quick and easy Woodland Themed Merry Little Christmas Card to share with you today.

Although this card is very simple to make, the chipboard accents really make it shine.  I've used the Medium Honeycomb and Bees chip along with my favorite Bird Scribble Frame.  These two elements add so much texture and visual interest to my 5" x 7" card.

 

The process here is soooooo easy.  I simply painted both chippies with an ivory chalkboard paint.  While the paint was still wet, I sprinkled them liberally with Stampendous Gold Tinsel Embossing Powder and then set with my heat gun.  It doesn't get much easier than that!  The rosette was created with my Tim Holtz die, topped with a red button and a sticker from MME Joyous collection.

The back panel is a 5x7 piece of glitter cardstock from the collection.  This was topped with a 3.75" x 5.75" panel of red damask paper.  I topped this with my honeycomb chip to add depth and also to break up the layers. Then I added another 3.75" x 5.75" panel of glitter text paper and offset it to the right hand side of the card.

This darling woodland tag from Polly's Paper Etsy Shop really pops off the page thanks to the Scribble Bird Frame.  It's hard to pick up in the photo, but there are tiny bits of glitter in the embossing powder that add a real festive feel to the card. I diluted the ivory chalkboard paint that was leftover on my craft sheet and spattered it randomly onto the card.  I think it looks like snow, and that is very fun, indeed.

 

I wanted this card to double as a gift, so I created a pocket on the inside.  The stamped sentiment panel on top is from Tim Holtz Doodle Christmas greetings.

The pocket is filled with a tiny wrapped chocolate and two more sweet bird tags that can hang on the tree.

I also wanted to let you know that this will be my last post as a Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Educator.  I've started watching my granddaughters much more often now that we live so close by.  It's a wonderful addition to my life, however I find myself needing to "lighten the load" so that I'm not working 24/7.  I hope to be able to come back as a guest designer from time to time as I dearly love working with these fabulous chips.  So I  bid you all a  very fond adieu along with my best wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy NewYear!

Off to the Races Planner Clips and Tags by Pam Bray

Welcome to the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Blog; it is Pam here today. I know you have seen the craze on planner clips so I decided I would create a few with the Fall Shape Set using Graphic 45 Off to the Races pattern paper to give to friends that are enjoying planners.

Begin by applying adhesive to the Decorative Tags X Large. (I use Xyron Creative Station.) Place pattern paper to the top of the tags.

Apply modeling paste and crackle paste to the top of prepared tag using palette knife. Allow to dry completely.

Add ribbon to top of Decorative Tags X Large.

Adhere pattern paper to top of each of the Fall Shape Set.  Add small circle punch to paper clip; adhere prepared Fall Shape Set to top of each clip.

Add small twine bows to each of the Fall Shape Clips.

Adhere pattern paper and paper borders to each tag to form pockets on each of the Decorative Tags X Large.

Add Fall Shape Clips to pockets.
