Woodland Themed Merry Little Christmas Card

Hello, Friends!  It's Kathy here with a quick and easy Woodland Themed Merry Little Christmas Card to share with you today.

Although this card is very simple to make, the chipboard accents really make it shine.  I've used the Medium Honeycomb and Bees chip along with my favorite Bird Scribble Frame.  These two elements add so much texture and visual interest to my 5" x 7" card.

 

The process here is soooooo easy.  I simply painted both chippies with an ivory chalkboard paint.  While the paint was still wet, I sprinkled them liberally with Stampendous Gold Tinsel Embossing Powder and then set with my heat gun.  It doesn't get much easier than that!  The rosette was created with my Tim Holtz die, topped with a red button and a sticker from MME Joyous collection.

The back panel is a 5x7 piece of glitter cardstock from the collection.  This was topped with a 3.75" x 5.75" panel of red damask paper.  I topped this with my honeycomb chip to add depth and also to break up the layers. Then I added another 3.75" x 5.75" panel of glitter text paper and offset it to the right hand side of the card.

This darling woodland tag from Polly's Paper Etsy Shop really pops off the page thanks to the Scribble Bird Frame.  It's hard to pick up in the photo, but there are tiny bits of glitter in the embossing powder that add a real festive feel to the card. I diluted the ivory chalkboard paint that was leftover on my craft sheet and spattered it randomly onto the card.  I think it looks like snow, and that is very fun, indeed.

 

I wanted this card to double as a gift, so I created a pocket on the inside.  The stamped sentiment panel on top is from Tim Holtz Doodle Christmas greetings.

The pocket is filled with a tiny wrapped chocolate and two more sweet bird tags that can hang on the tree.

I also wanted to let you know that this will be my last post as a Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Educator.  I've started watching my granddaughters much more often now that we live so close by.  It's a wonderful addition to my life, however I find myself needing to "lighten the load" so that I'm not working 24/7.  I hope to be able to come back as a guest designer from time to time as I dearly love working with these fabulous chips.  So I  bid you all a  very fond adieu along with my best wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy NewYear!

Silent Night Arch Top Reliquary Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It's Kathy here with a lovely wintry project that you can enjoy all season.  Today I'm working with the wonderful Arch Top Reliquary, Snowflake Shape Set and Winter Shape set.

I love wintry blues and whites, especially when there's a little bit of sparkle involved.

 

Working with this arch top reliquary is really fun.  It goes together quickly but still has a great 3-D feel.

White feathers and silver skeleton leaves add to the wintry feel of this wintry project. Here are a few more photos for you to enjoy.

St. Nicholas Christmas Card and Ornament Gift Set

Hello, Friends!  It's Kathy here with a great way to use the new Double Sided Ornament from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.  I love to make cards that are a gift all by themselves. 

 

Here is the box.  I used a blank kraft card box that I had in my stash and decorated it with Saint Nicholas papers, Petaloo flowers and gorgeous GSL snowflakes. 

 

 This pretty card is inside the box.....

 ....along with a little keepsake ornament.  Instead of making a double sided ornament, I used one half on my card front as a shaker element.  It's twice the fun!

Here's a closer look at some of the details.

 

Distress Grit paste makes wonderful "snow" especially when you sprinkle it with glitter!

Capture Thanksgiving Memories with Bracket Edged Stagger Album

Hello, Friends!  It's Kathy here with a great way to capture the memories from fall family gatherings.  Our great big noisy family loves Thanksgiving.  We also enjoy creating photo booths for our family gatherings.  We get great snapshots as everyone has fun hamming it up with various props.  This charming little album is the perfect spot to chronicle those events and maybe even tuck in a recipe or two.

 

The elegant Rose Tudor Singles chip looks great with these Authentique Harvest papers.  I used a mix of the Fall Shapes Set and some additional flourishes on the inside.  And I'll show you how I built this album step by step in this Snapguide tutorial.

Steampunk Spells Mixed Media Canvas

Hello, Friends!  It's Kathy Clement here with you to share another Spooktacular Halloween tutorial using fabulous Steampunk Chips from Gypsy Soul.

This Steampunk Spells Mixed Media Canvas is made with some vintage book covers that I found in my stash.  It measures about  7" wide by 9" tall.  I've used texture paste and a stencil around the edges then built a fun steampunk inspired on top.

There are so many wonderful steampunk chips in the store, but I have had my eye on this fabulous Clockwork Penny Farthiing for a long time!

It's been treated with paint and embossing enamel to give it a really cool steampunk finish!

I created a YouTube Video Tour so you can really see all the fun details in this project.

Queen Anne's Lace Wildflower Card

Hello, Friends!  It's Kathy here with my very first post as an official member of the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Design Team.  I've been filling in with guest spots all summer long, and was tickled pink when Gina asked me to become a regular part of the team.  I'm so looking forward to sharing a couple of tutorials with you each month!  Let's kick things off with a dreamy Queen Anne's Lace Wildflower card, shall we?

I have always loved Queen Anne's Lace!  Seeing it bloom along the roadside makes my heart happy!  So I was thrilled to find some in my DT box.  

 

Look how beautiful it is when paired up with Authentique's Harvest paper collection!

Altering the Queen Anne's Lace chippies was fun, quick and easy!  I used a combination of embossing enamels and Distress paints to make it come to life.

 I can't get over the detail in this chipboard!  I added lots of texture and dimension with layered papers, machine stitching, a shabby chic bow and buttons.

 

Since I had an extra piece of altered Queen Anne's Lace left over, I made a little bookmark to tuck into the pocket inside the card.

Halloween in Wonderland Altered Altoids Tin

Hello, Friends!  It's Kathy Clement here, filling in with a little guest tutorial.  With the rapid approach of fall, my mind turns toward Halloween projects, how about you?  Well, today I have the cutest little Halloween in Wonderland altered Altoids Tin to share with you.  I hope you will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Isn't it fun?  I used two different Altoids inserts: Scalloped and Alice along with Tiny Alice Props chippies from Gypsy Soul.

I have a few process photos to share with you, and then lots and lots of pics to inspire you.

I began the process by aging my Altoids tin with Prima Rust pastes.  I found lots of online tutorials for this process, but basically, you just use a brush to tap the paste on, starting with the darkest color.  Let the layers dry before you add the next color.  I treated both the inside and the outside of the tin.

While my rust paste was drying, I painted all the inserts with black soot distress paint.  Paint both the front and the back.  You can see that I kind of cleaned my rust paste brushes off on some areas of the painted chippies.  I didn't want them to look too perfect.

I also used a white Sharpie pen to outline some of the shapes.  I tapped shades of blue Distress Paint onto the chips as well, just to add some texture.  Then I sponged over the ink with Black Distress Ink and a blender tool to knock the color back a little.

I traced each insert onto Halloween in Wonderland papers, trimmed them out and glued them to the back of the insert.  Easy, peasy!

I hot glued some purple trim and a border piece around the edges of the tin.  I tried using Glossy Accents but it would not stick to the rough texture of the rust paste.  Glue gun to the rescue!

I painted a selection of Tiny Alice Props with Wilted Violet and Shaded Lilac Distress Paints.  The edges were inked with Black Soot DI.  I also used my White Sharpie pen to add a dot border around the inside edge of each insert.  I really like the way this helped define the shape as well as provided some pattern and contrast.  

I wanted my tin to look really old and battered so I distressed it even more by tapping it lightly with a craft hammer.  Then I rusted a Tim Holtz Idea-ology word band and glued it to the front edge of the tin.

I filled the inside of the tin with all the inserts.

I also painted some tiny mushroom chippies from the Tiny Alice Props and added them to the final card in the box.  I love the dimension this adds.
