Art Girl Banner

A great way to start off the new year! A fun, easy project that looks great and declares your love of art to the universe.
Or maybe just to your cat.
No matter, let it bring a smile to your face each time you look at your project!

I started out with the Banner Builder Dovetail Set. It comes in a set of four, so you will need two sets.
I painted the back scalloped edge pieces black, front and back.
I used one of the top pieces as a template and cut all of my background papers.

I painted the Flower Stackers and the One Inch Scallop Punch Elements white.
I actually used three sets of the Flower Stackers because I wanted eight large flowers for the tops of my banner pieces, but you can use any size flowers you choose.

I glued the background papers to the top layer of the banner pieces and set them aside to dry.
I then glued them on to the scalloped black painted bottom layer of the banner pieces.
Next, I cut a green sheet of scrapbook paper into seven 2 3/4 inch squares and a creamy yellow sheet into seven squares that measured 2 inches.
I played around with some lettering on graph paper and then hand-lettered each yellow 2 inch square with A R T G I R L.....

 After they dried, I glued them on to the green 2 3/4 inch squares, let them dry and then attached them to the banner pieces, making sure each one is centered consistently with the others.
When all was dry, I stacked and glued my flowers on at the top center of each banner piece.
I cut out lots of butterflies and a couple of bugs and attached them to each piece as I saw fit.
I added white paint dot around the edge of the black scalloped pieces and around the lettering to make it pop.
And of course, a little bit of glitter....

A little hot glue attaches the velvet ribbon to the back and it's ready to go!

A simple fascinator

"Do you have your hat yet?"
"I'm not wearing a hat."
"YOU HAVE TO WEAR A HAT! Your grandmother was told she must wear a hat. You've got to wear something."

Apparently I have to wear a hat of some sort to my cousins wedding. I love hats (serious affinity to crowns!) but a) I get a bad case of hat head when I wear anything on my head and b) I have to pack it in a suitcase.

The solution? A simple fascinator!

A fasinator is "a type of formal headwear worn as an alternative to the hat; it is usually a large decorative design attached to a band or clip."

Most instructions I found for creating a fascinator said to use a 8" round, but I wanted something quite small. Instead, I opted for the Layered Frame Bella Oval as my base. I painted it black then sandwiched a piece of scrapbook paper that matches the colour of my dress in between the layers.

I applied a pair of Fantasy Wings to a Punchelements 1 inch Scalloped round and topped that with a paper rose. This element holds a length of tulle in place.

I backed the frame with a piece of felt and glued the entire thing to a headband. To secure things even further, an additional piece of felt is added over the band to keep it sturdy.

And that's really it! So simple. Done in not time at all with just a few materials. Best of all you can colour coordinate perfectly with your pretty frock.

This project is super simple. To make your own, here is the list of all the materials I used:

And if you aren't attending an event that requires headwear, make yourself a fascinator and drink high tea at home with pinkies out and fancy something upon your head.

A Small Book of Butterflies (and a couple of ladies)

When I saw this tiny, cute little Shaped Edge Micro Mini album, I knew I had to play with it. About the same time, I was given Prima's Forever Green 6x6 paper pad and everything fell into place. Love all the tiny butterflies and illustrations in the pad and it turns out to be perfect for the wee album that was forming itself in my head.

This was a pretty straight forward project. I started out painting the back of the album pieces with black acrylic paint. And cut all the paper backgrounds I needed for each page, front and back.

 I played with the papers, cutting out the images that appealed to me and looked about the right size. I'm not sure how it happened, but the ladies wanted to get in on the act......
I started composing the pages, playing with the shapes and when things fell into place the gluing began!

After things dried, I began embellishing, first with a Sharpie paint pen. I used the poster paint one as it dries very quickly. (and everyone knows I have no patience!)
I love the contrast of the black backgrounds and the white dots.

I added little touches of metal findings and a bit of sparkle with some Swarovski flat back crystals.

I also used a black permanent marker to make contrasting dots on some of the lighter papers as you can see above on right hand page.

The Punch Elements Deco labels were a fun addition and adding some micro beads to the page gave it extra dimension.

These ladies just keep fluttering by.

Colorful ATC's by Shanna

Hello to you all today. This is the first post of the day so make sure you come back later to check out what Pam has created to share with you all.

Well Shanna here with some fun ATC's to share. YES I made some fun bright and colorful ATC's and used colors that my daughter picked out. 

All three ATC's got a coat of gesso and then my chipboard did as well. 

Then I added some paints and mica powders and stamping. My daughter just loves pink and thought the green was cool. Then some blues for my favorite color and orange because, well I don't remember why she grabbed it, but he did so I used it.

Then I added some Tim Holtz rub-ons on the punch element pieces and added a layer of cardboard behind the bottom and top pieces to give some dimension. 

Then we added the flowers and finished them off with a rhinestone for their centers.

Garden Cards

Hello to you all. Shanna here and I am feeling a little dark lately. 

Well not really dark. I used some darker colors on my cards to share with you all.

I love Prima and I have had some of the Nature Garden collections in my stash. I thought this was perfect and it turned out great with the chipboard I wanted to use.

Of course all my chipboard pieces got a coat of gesso. Then I proceeded to go to town :)

For my first card I used some Prima Chalk Ink but I didn't fully cover everything, just a little pat here and there.

The second card got a coat of chalk board paint. The Bird on a Swing Shape Set got a great crackle glaze but the cracked for some reason didn't make it all the way to the center of the bird.

I love crackle accents! It is so much fun to just add a bit more texture to projects! 

I finished the cards with some chit chat words.

Thanks for stopping by Gina's blog on this last day of 2014. I have a happy holidays shadowbox for you today. I apologize for posting this after Christmas, but it was a gift!

This element piece was made with one of Gina's doilies and a punchelement 1 inch scalloped.

You can see the three different techniques I used on the ornaments. After they were painted I used bling on the first, a rubber stamp on the second, and one of Gina's snowflakes that I glittered on the third.

The number 25 was custom made by Gina.

Vintage Parisian Layout By Donna

Happy Tuesday! Today I'm sharing a vintage Parisian layout. When I saw this photo of the stockings it made me think of Gina's Parisian Shape set. So many cute items!

I used two of the corsets; one with black chalk ink, and left one natural. The darling woman in a hat silhouette is also covered in black chalk ink.

I used the boots from the Miniatures Shape Set - Ladies Choice, colored them black and then added then laces.

The round scalloped element pieces were created by our very own Gina! In the store you will find Punchelements 1 inch Scalloped to make you very own elements.

On the dress form,  I painted it with black chalk ink, and finished with a sheer gold mist.

Christmas Cards by Mary

Can you believe we are less than a month away until Christmas?? Mary here, and I have two cards for you today that I made using some of the chipboard pieces that Gina has in her store.

The first card features one of the snowflakes from the Snowflake Shape Set. I applied a coat of gesso before covering it in glitter. It is attached to the card using pop dots.

The next card is an easel card. I used the Punch elements - 1" Scalloped to make the elements that will keep the card in the upright position.

Hi Crafty Friends!  Today we have two projects to share.  First up is Nancy with another August cross-promotional project featuring Gina's Designs with printable paper kits by Kitty's Scrap Post.

Hello Everyone!  Nancy here with another cross promotional project pairing Gina's Design's chipboard with digital papers from Kitty's Scrap Post.  This is my third project this month using the awesome papers in the Heartbreak kit.  Today I'm sharing a Paris themed mini album.  There are several more photos of this mini posted on my blog, and the link will be provided at the end of the post.
