Gingerbread Sleigh

Happy Saturday, everyone! Connie here with my version of one of the GSL Sleigh Ornaments decorated for the holidays in a gingerbread theme. These would be so cute to make multiples of and decorate as placecards for your holiday meal. 

Here are the pieces laid to show you how it comes together. There is the sleigh body as well as the ornamental trim.

The sleigh was assembled using tacky glue.

I painted the sleigh body with brown acrylic paint and the trim with white. I also painted a few GSL Snowflakes and GSL Deco Stars in the same brown paint. 

I also used a few of the GSL Christmas Shape Set pieces; candy canes and peppermint swirls. Those were layered on top of one inch cardboard circles. 

The gingerbread 'cookies' were frosted using white puffy paint. 

Everything was nestled in place using crystal vase filler.

Ornament Making Event

Hello everyone! Lora here to share a couple very special days we had here in my neck of the woods!
We had two wonderful ornament making events for children (and grown-ups!) here in Patrick County, Virginia sponsored by The Reynolds Homestead and our own wonderful Gina, owner of Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts. Through Gina's generosity and kindness, we were able to make over 150 ornament kits for kids to put together at two separate events...one was at the Apple Dumpling Festival and the second was held this past week end, A Victorian Open House at the old Reynolds Homestead.
We all had a blast.
Here are some pictures of what went on.

This little boy was so happy to be here. He worked very patiently through one kit after another, making presents for his family.

 The Victorian Open House was challenged by weather, but we still had a steady stream of kids and adults who enjoyed making the ornaments. Here is a great picture of the Victorian ladies decked in their finest, ready to do tours of the old house. Standing in front of the twelve foot Christmas tree at the learning center.

Advent Calendar with Alicia Barry

So Thanksgiving is over and I hope everyone had a wonderful day. Now it is all about Christmas. This is a big deal in our house. I love to decorate. I have created this Advent Calendar Shadowbox to fit in with my tree decor. My tree is aqua with gold and silver. Not so traditional.

The Advent calendar kit will give you the structure of the shadow box, including a template for the boxes. You can also purchase the Pre-cut Drawers separately. This will save you a lot of time. You simply fold along the score lines, glue the tabs and you're done.

I chose to cover mine with paper. It was as simple as cutting strips and wrapping around. For the notch in the front, I covered two of the sides, starting at the back, then traced the inside of the notch and cut with scissors before adhering the last two sides. I found it important to glue those two sides first, as it allowed me to place the notch perfectly. Of course, you could just paint the boxes too. Whatever you use, keep it simple and adhere closely, as the spots for the boxes to slide into are tight.

For this project, I chose to assemble and adhere my shadow box into place before painting. I knew I would be covering most of the surfaces with paper, and that the insides wont be seen at all, so the only surface I really needed to worry about are the forward facing edges. A quick spray with metallic paint mists was sufficient, and far quicker than painting. Don't worry about the overspray, it will be covered.

I then slotted my boxes into place and lined the inside of the shadow box with decorative paper. 

At this point, I also added metallic numbers to the front of the boxes using foam dots. By raising them, they act as little handles.

Next I took some Art Deco Borders and Corners and covered with white gesso and fine glitter. I wanted them to look snowy. I adhered these in place as shown, making sure that the boxes could still slide out easily.

I decorated the inside corner of the shadow box with a lamp post image from the Christmas Shape Set, layering a wreath and bow over the top. These also had glitter added. I used a little texture paste with more glitter to resemble snow. The base of the shadow box has some batting glued in place. A tiny drop of dimensional paint resembles the flame.

I then added some small pinecones and foliage along with a small Christmas ornament. (I recommend using a hot glue gun at this point). This all has texture paste and glitter over the top.

In the top corner, I have hung some more snow covered Christmas balls.

And on the very top of the box, I have created another cluster to mirror the one on the bottom.

Now to find some tiny treats to fill all those boxes ready for the start of December.

Busy Elves Triptych

I thought these little elves were so cute that they deserved to be displayed for the Christmas season.  The print started out as a scanned vintage Christmas card that I resized and edited.

I decided to use the new Cross Top Triptych as the base for my project. 

 I used a sharpie marker to color the area I wanted red, then used some Studio G glitter glue to give it some sparkle.

 I used a Painter's Acrylic pen in gold to color the overlay layer and then used some Glamour Dust Acrylic paint.

 I chose the wreath and bow from the Christmas Shape Set as a decor piece, and added some little rhinestones in red.

Christmas Mobile

Hi everyone, its Angela here sharing my mini Christmas mobile with you.

I took the Tiny Christmas shape set(coming to the store soon) and coated both sides with white gesso. I have done 2 sets because you need 4 bows for the wreaths and you need part of 2 scarves to glue on the back of the snowmen and 2 hats to glue on the back of them too.

Once dry I took some ColorArte twinkling H2O paints to paint on the details I also used some cosmic shimmer sparkle pearl glue (its a bit like stickles only the glue has a colour to it)

I cut bits out of the Faux wire Hangers so I could stick them together crossed over to create the top for the shapes to hang from. I coloured the hangers with a silver sharpie once I had stuck them together (note to self - it would be a better idea to colour these first before glueing together lol).

Here is a picture of the finished mobile from a different angle, I used some silver wire to attach the pieces to the hangers but in hindsight I think fishing twine or thread would have been a better option, as wire was a bit too solid.

3D Christmas Tree

Hi everyone, I am hoping that this post comes out OK as it is the first time I have done anything like this. My usual genre is making cards, but I was"persuaded" to do this tree, hope you like it.

As the tree is 3D I am unable to show it in one piece, so here is the front and back of the finished tree

 

The three pieces of the tree as they started out.

I cut card to cover the shapes of the trees (being very careful to leave the slots in the shapes clear of paper), then covered each piece with green (pistachio) gilding polish by Creative Expressions. I then embossed these two pieces with Creative Expressions Nordic trees embossing folder(A4 size) and went over it lightly with enchanted gold gilding polish.

I decided to do the base in a different colour, so embossed some red card with Creative Expressions Nordic Tiles embossing folder( 8x8 size) and went over this again with the enchanted gold gilding polish.

I put the two pieces of the tree together, this is a tight fit as the card makes the pieces a little bit thicker, but it does work. There are four little pieces on the bottom of the tree which fit into the four holes on the base.

I began to decorate the tree with some little Christmas bells that I had in my stash. (it is a pity that there is no sound because every time you move the tree the bells jingle), I then covered the GSLC snowflake and fancy star with white gesso and let that dry. I then painted the snowflake white and decorated it with gold, silver and red gemstones, I did the same on the back but then glued this to the star which I had painted mauve.(any colours would be OK here). I left a small opening at the bottom and glued this to the top of the tree. I then added some "snow" around the bottom which is just bits of cotton wool.

I had already covered  quite a few GSLC chipboard pieces with white gesso ready for decoration, so I will show the 4 sides to show these. This is the NOEL piece and two of the snowflakes.

Here are the snowman with his bobble hat, the street lamp and two more snowflakes. The reindeer in the background are some that I cut out from my stash.

I cut down the GLSC flag pieces, coloured them, printed MERRY CHRISTMAS on them and attached them to 2 thin pieces of ribbon so that they went across the whole section.

The GSLC Christmas stocking and the candy canes are on this section together with some little presents that I had cut out and 2 more snowflakes. I then punched out some gold snowflakes and red bows with Martha Stewart punches to go round the bottom on the base. I also added some of the ribbons onto the edges of the tree together with tinsel from my stash.
