House Front Letter Box

In the midst of the worlds current craziness I find I'm having issues concentrating. While it seems that now might be the perfect time to tackle a big and complex project, I just can't seem to muster the gumption needed. A little distraction on the other hand... totally doable.

So I've taken a House Front Box Kit and made a wee box for the mail that is still managing to get through. I love getting mail, if you have little ones maybe they'd like to get some mail too.

I don't have a video tute for this project, but I do have some step-by-steps you can follow.

1. Clean the edges of the pieces you'll be using and orientate the pieces of House Front Box Kit so that you know how they'll fit together.

2. Cover one side of the slotted base and cut out the holes using a sharp blade. This will be the top side of the base.

3. Cover the bottom side of the side. No need to cut out the holes on this side.

4. Glue the box together.

Note: Consider tracing the house shape of the front of the box onto your decorative paper before gluing pieces in place.

5. Cover the inside and outside of the box with decorative paper.

Note: I covered the little holes on the sides of the box. If you want to add a handle, string or ribbon, you'll want to poke those holes open.

6. Prepare your decorate elements.

• Paint the door included in the House Front Box Kit, a little "Letters" Plate, and a turret from the Turrets Set of 4 with red acrylic paint.

• Paint window frames from the House Front Box Kit and a Mini Crest Sign black. 

7. Add a non-discript picture to the window frame. You might also want to sandwhich a layer of clear plastic between the frame and the image to give the shiny appearance of glass.

8. For the mailbox I simply sliced one of the little turrets in half. Cover the exterior with paper to hide the curved opening then cut with a sharp blade.

9. For the top piece, apply the prepared Mini Crest Sign, add a bit of paper to the back of the "Letters" Plate to make the lettering pop, and then add a Faux Metal Number Plate

10. Pop your window, door and mailbox in place.

11. Fill with letters and notes for those that you're quarantined or locked-down with!

Black and red acrylic paint

New Specimen Box with....specimens

I love this new 6x4 Specimen Box! 
It's a great size and you can choose to put in as many of the inserts as you choose. Nice, flexible design.

 In my bug specimens theme, I chose to leave out the insert on the far right, so I could place some bigger critters in there.
Here's where I started:
I assembled the box frame and painted the sides (on the inside only), the top front edges and the inserts.

I cut paper to fit the inside back and all of the outside of the box. I glued in the papers ...

fitted and glued in the inserts, let them dry and then gave the whole thing a coat of matte medium and then a coat of Quinac gold, wiping most of it away with a damp paper towel, but leaving the 'goo' in the cracks and crannies to give the box an aged looked.

I also painted the Layered Flouishes Aria and assembled them for adding to the box later.

I then fussy cut my insects with a scalpel, glued them each on a tiny cork (you can get them HERE) and then glued them into the box.

After that was dry, I glued the flourishes on to the front of the box, added a few tiny brass stamped flowers et voila! A pretty little specimen box.
A fun project and most enjoyable.

Trading Cards Magnets

Something slightly odd and cheerful for my turn on Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts today.
I tried to come up with a name for this trio of trading squares, but I just couldn't make up my mind...
When Pigs Fly, Time Flies (or a Flock of Clocks) Air Mail Trading Card Magnets was just a wee bit too long.
So Trading Square Magnets it is.

 (magnets from the hardware store....they are gnarly)

I started out with these little guys...

I cut paper for the back and the fronts and painted some bird cages black. I also cut out door openings where needed.

I had a scrap of pretty blue sky with clouds paper and cut them to fit the backs of the bird cages and glued them in.

I sanded all my squares and inked around the edges with gold ink and cut out little tiny clocks, stamps, pigs and butterflies and glued the butterfly wings on the backs of the stamps, the pigs and the clocks.

I used washi tape, green leaf ribbon and dots of black paint (the round end of a paint brush dipped in paint and then daubed on) as the background on my squares.

I glued the bird cages on, then the critters in arrangements I liked and added the Tiny Number Plates and any extra leaves or dots.

I like 'em!

Mice Like Candy, too.

Greetings! Lora here for the terrific Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and Part Two of Mice Like Candy Too. Today I am going to do the do the four remaining tags.
In the picture below, you can see the top row is what I did a couple of weeks ago and the bottom row are the four I am going to chat about today.

Most of the elements are the same - the background color, candy jars, dots and flowers all help with cohesiveness and tie all the tags together, making them a set.

I began with cutting out all the bits and pieces I may (or may not) use. I wanted some different mice and these cute little fellows fit in with the look I was going for. (I darkened up their color so they would pop a bit more) I cut out a bunch of circles and various sweets and jars and played with the mix until I got layouts I liked....

I started gluing my layers on starting with what will be in the background-the circles.

With a little daub of glue at the bottom of the mouse, I attached him to where I wanted him on the jar and then glued the whole piece down and attached the number, adding dots after everything dried.

 Next, the ribbon was added and glitter was used for a sparkly bit of detail. The flower was glued on as the last thing.

Not a difficult project, but I think they are so cute. I decided that I did not want to make a banner of them as a friend of mine is having a little baby shower for her grand daughter and we are going to use them for place cards for the table. Now I have to make a 'few' more!

Mice like Candy, too. A Mouse Tag Banner - Part One

Now if they can just figure out how to get the lids off the candy jars.........
Hello all, Lora here for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts with a trio of tiny tags with even tinier mice on them.
Part one of two....first easy peasy tag making. Second, an easy peasy banner made out of the cute tags.

I chose the Small Tag Set and covered seven of the pieces, back and front with pretty pink paper.

 Here is a picture of me messing around with how I want the layout for the final banner...

You can see I settled on using bits of the House Jewelry Pieces and the Petal Corner Minis.
I also used the Faux Metal Number Plates in the picture below.

I also cut little background circles of the paper I used on the backs of the tags to keep a consistent theme running through them, and added some white dots a ribbon a little silk flower at the top. And a tiny little white mouse. So cute!

Sweet winged dressform

I've started this blog post a million times. Trying to come up with a good explanation, a reason for this project. The truth is, there is none. It's just a fun silly thing that happens to be pretty.

And you know, that's ok. Why does there need to be a reason to create something other than the urge to do so?!

 So I've made this pretty frock using a Dressform Hang Up as a base.

To it I've added a pair of wings from the Wings Assortment

And nestled a piece of the Victorian Corners 2 set onto the bodice (it fits just right!)

I've layered silk rose petals and tulle for the dress portion, simply hot gluing them in place. A bit of glitter, paper flowers and a heart embellishment and voila! you've got a sweet little something.

Give Thanks Greeting Card

Hello there friends and crafty peeps! Ginny here dropping in to share a card I created for the first day of my series of revisit and remake. I'm taking some of my favorite designs from the past and giving them a major upgrade by including gorgeous chippies from GSL and some of my new fave paper collections and embellishments.

 For this card I'm using the Floral Lace Panel which is like the biggest and best doily, and the Faux Metal Number Plate which is so vintagy!!!!

The Panel reminds me of tatted lace. You know the ones you have to starch and pin to set the design in place? It's very country....yet very chic!

Since it's a county inspired look I'm going for I added very casual flowers with twine and a plaid bow. What's more country than plaid????

Actual vintage buttons are just the right accent here. I picked up a great supply of them at the antique warehouse market last weekend.

More flowers here with some bronzy colored keys and clip finish off this card with old fashioned charm.

I chose the chippies I wanted to use for this project then wiped them down to prepare them for altering.

I finished the  Floral Lace Panel and label with flat white acrylic paint.

I adhered the number plate to the label  then added coordinating brads for a nice finished look.
