My Secret Garden

I love Spring and I love flowers, so I decided to make a garden with a dimensional card and loads of flowers from GSLCuts.

I started off by making the card up so that I could decide where to place everything.

 Then chose what I wanted to use on the card, I have already gessoed all the "ingredients"

I had this sheet of floral and butterfly paper in my stash which I decided was just the right colours for the background on my card, so covered both sides and the front of the folded parts of the card.

This lovely arch is just the right thing to put on the front of the card so that you look through into the garden. I gessoed it then coloured it with silver  gilding polish, after which I coloured all the leaves with green, I used undiluted water colour paint for this.

Then it was just a case of where to put everything, I started with the bridge and stuck that to the back of the card. Still at the back but in front of the bridge at either side I used Daisies on the left and Yarrow on the right with their leaves joining in the middle.

The row in front I used a small leafy tree on the right and buds from the Queen Anne lace on the left, the bench in the middle is a die that I had in my stash, and the butterfly is one from a set.

The first row is made up of Queen Anne's Lace and long stemmed rose, but I used the flower rather than the stem.

Which brings me to the front: I had to have a watering can for all those flowers, so I cut one out on my silhouette machine, I die cut some leaves and intertwined those up the side and on the top, then added some flowers from my stash and some butterflies and dragonflies in among the leaves.

I had one small space left at the bottom of the front so decided that whoever looked after this garden had to have some transport, so cut a bicycle out from one of my dies.

I must say here that the bicycle and the bench could have also come from GSL cuts but unfortunately I  decided to add these after I had started, so I hadn't ordered them, but have given you the links so that you can remember.

This card looks very "busy" but it really is very easy to make, so why not have a go and see what sort of garden you can invent, you don't have to use the same flowers or archway because GSLcuts has loads more, so have a look and see what you can do.

ST .GEORGES DAY April 23rd.

King Edward III made St George England's official Patron Saint because, although St. George wasn't English, he embodied the characteristics that King Edward wanted to project to the outside world, and a Patron Saint didn't have to be from the country of origin.

There are many stories about St. George  but they all seem to agree that he killed a dragon that was terrorising a village and that he died on April 23rd. 303 AD.

First of all I decided which pieces to use from GSLcuts.many lovely items.

 Next I gessoed all the pieces  and then coloured them ready to put onto the plaque, I just used different distress inks for this. I kept using different colours until I came up with the end product that I liked. The rose, of course, is red because that is the colour of the English rose.

 I then cut a fairly thick piece of cardboard into a shield shape and covered it in white gesso, then cut a piece of white card and embossed it with an embossing folder from my collection. Any embossing folder can be used, it was just to give the background a texture. I cut two pieces of red card, embossed them with the same folder as the base and stuck them onto the base to make the English flag, (red cross on a white background)

I went online to find a picture of St. George, there were hundreds of course, but I just chose the one that I liked and that fitted with what I wanted to do.

Placing the relevant pieces on the plaque came next,  I used the feathery flourishes set on the base to make a rough frame. Then came St. George holding his horse, and trying to slay the dragon.

The rose I put on a background of white card so that it would show up better, and placed it at the bottom of the plaque. I cut the stem off the rose  as I only wanted the flower itself.

I  put the label at  the top of the plaque with St. Georges day hand written on it.

This is just a simple project but I hope someone will be inspired enough to have a go, maybe for another special day. Remember projects don't always have to be complicated, simple things can look nice too.

RubberMoon Cross Promotional Tags

 Hello crafty friends, I am here to share with you today the tags I created using stamps by RubberMoon & laser chipboard by Gina's. I used the deco cat stamp on both tags. The cat is looking out the window on both tags.

Tag 1

Tag 1 was cut from a Accu cut die Album tags using  corrugated paper.  I used graphic 45 paper layering two of the secret garden tags/cards  over the diamond textured sheet and intricate doilies.

 Tag 2

Tag 2 cut from the Accu cut album tags using Robins Nest winter snowflake paper. The cat was stamped on the chipboard cat that was painted with spun sugar distress paint.

The cat is looking at the home across the yard through the lace curtains.
