Shabby Chic Mask

Hi everyone! Barbara Rankin here on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog. Today, I want to share this pretty, shabby chic mask using the Masks Shape Set, along with Prima's new Lavender paper, and lots of lace and trims.

Trim a piece of 12"x12" paper to 7-3/4" x 12". I used the mask shapes to get this measurement.

Run paper, right side up, through Xyron Creative Station.

Place paper with sticky side up. This paper is double sided, so the script you see in the photo is actually the sticky side now. Lay right side of each mask onto sticky side of paper.

Trim excess paper around each mask and cut out inside eye holes. Repeat process to cover back of each mask with solid purple card stock.

Run purple card stock through Xyron Creative Station.

Adhere back of each mask to sticky side of cardstock. Trim excess paper and cut out area inside the eye holes. If needed, you can use sand paper, an emery board, or sanding tool, like the one shown, to smooth any rough edges.

Choose three feathery flourishes and the smallest star medallion from each set. Ink with Versamark ink and heat emboss each piece with Charred Gold embossing powder first. Reheat the embossing powder and while embossing powder is still hot, randomly sprinkle a small amount of Queen's Gold embossing powder and quickly reheat until melted. Repeat process for back of each piece. You only need to cover the parts of these pieces that might extend past the mask and be seen from the back.

Adhere pieces to each mask, as shown. The star medallion is centered and attached to the top mask, while the flourishes are adhered to the bottom mask, just above where the top mask will sit.

Cut a piece of 4" wide white fringe to 13". Place onto a craft mat and spray with water first, Then spray both Shaded Lilac and Spun Sugar Distress Spray Stains over the fringe. Spray more water to help the colors lighten as well as blend. Allow the fringe to dry. It will dry to a lighter color. Then cut off any excess trim.

Glue purple trim around bottom mask, as shown. I also outlined the eye openings on the bottom mask with the gold Krylon pen, as shown.

When the top mask is placed over the bottom mask, you will be able to see the gold outline around the eyes, as shown below.

However, before we glue the two masks together, let's finish the top mask. Glue purple trim around the edges of the top mask. When glue dries, cut off any excess trim.

Next, glue a line of flat back pearl trim centered over purple trim.

Cut two dangle daisy pieces from dangle daisy trim. Lay onto craft mat and spray with Ranger Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist. Then dab ColourArte Solar Gold onto each piece. Let dry.

Spread a thick bead of fast grab tacky glue along outer edge of bottom mask, as shown. Let set for a minute or two. Gently curve upper mask, and have a few clamps nearby and ready to use.

Align both top and bottom masks together and clamp along edges until glue dries.

You may need to insert something between the two masks to keep the upper mask curved. I used an extra clamp and shoved it between them. Let the masks sit until the glue is dry.

Next, I inserted and glued small white feathers between the feathery flourishes to soften the top edges. I glued matching gold buttons to the two daisy dangles and start medallion, as shown. You may need to cut the shank off of the buttons before glueing them down.

Now, we need to add a handle. I painted a 12" dowel that is 1/4' wide with pearl paint. You may need two coats for good coverage. If you are right handed, you will want the handle to be on the left side of the mask so that when you are holding the mask, your right hand is free to use. If you are left-handed, then place the handle on the right side of the mask.

Use a good glue to attach the handle to the back of the mask, and cover the top of the handle with a small piece of the solid purple card stock to help keep the handle in place.

Christmas Card and Tag...One Design Two Ways by Pam Bray

Welcome to all of our Gyspy Soul Laser Cuts Fans! Hard to believe that December is here and in full Christmas mode of decorating, gift buying, wrapping, creating tags and cards to just begin to name a few of the things we have on our holiday to do list. Today though I am sharing with you how to create a Christmas Card and Tag using one design two ways.

Begin by laying your card base and XL Tag on your work space. Adhere layers of paper strips to both to mirror each other. Add a Epherema card to the center of the tag and make sure to use a border punch to give some added vintage feel to both the card and tag.

Adhere a Flourish Frame to card front and one of the Stackable Labels to the tag.

Layer a sentiment to pattern paper and add to front of Flourish Frame with pop dots, and repeat by adhering sentiment to front of stackable chipboard piece and adhering it to front of tag.

Adhere a few of the chipboard pieces from the Feathery Flourish Set to both the card and tag.

"With All Good Wishes For Christmas and the New Year Card"

Add a pretty bow and some floral Christmas to the card front along with gemstones.

"Noel Tag"

Add bow to top of finished tag and floral pieces next to the Noel Stackable Label to mimic the card. I hope you recreate this easy and simple Card and Tag designed using one design two ways for some of your upcoming projects. Pam

Merry Modern Christmas In July

Hey there Gypsy Soul Peeps! I'm so very excited to share that I've begun my Christmas in July projects. I just have so much fun creating with all the Christmas goodies when it's nice and warm out and I can wear tank tops and flip flops and know that I am going to be well prepared when the actual holiday rolls around with all the extra stress of decorating and shopping and holiday parties!

This is a very modern card for me. And maybe even a little bit glamourous with the golds and blacks.

The inspiration for this card was the tag and the gorgeous deer ephemera die cut.

I created a unique layered frame by finishing the chippies with a modern look then stacking them up.

Holiday cards always need elebenty hundred flowers and a generous amount of coordinating ribbon trim.

These sequins add extra detail and sparkle.

The star chippies are tucked in behind the deer and add a lot of extra glam.

Really easy to alter these pieces. First I wiped them down to prepare them for finishing. The scribble Frame and solid star pieces just have a nice coat of flat white acrylic paint. The Feather Flourishes and star borders have gold embossing powder heat set to a pretty sparkly shine.

ST .GEORGES DAY April 23rd.

King Edward III made St George England's official Patron Saint because, although St. George wasn't English, he embodied the characteristics that King Edward wanted to project to the outside world, and a Patron Saint didn't have to be from the country of origin.

There are many stories about St. George but they all seem to agree that he killed a dragon that was terrorising a village and that he died on April 23rd. 303 AD.

First of all I decided which pieces to use from GSLcuts.many lovely items.

Next I gessoed all the pieces and then coloured them ready to put onto the plaque, I just used different distress inks for this. I kept using different colours until I came up with the end product that I liked. The rose, of course, is red because that is the colour of the English rose.

I then cut a fairly thick piece of cardboard into a shield shape and covered it in white gesso, then cut a piece of white card and embossed it with an embossing folder from my collection. Any embossing folder can be used, it was just to give the background a texture. I cut two pieces of red card, embossed them with the same folder as the base and stuck them onto the base to make the English flag, (red cross on a white background)

I went online to find a picture of St. George, there were hundreds of course, but I just chose the one that I liked and that fitted with what I wanted to do.

Placing the relevant pieces on the plaque came next, I used the feathery flourishes set on the base to make a rough frame. Then came St. George holding his horse, and trying to slay the dragon.

The rose I put on a background of white card so that it would show up better, and placed it at the bottom of the plaque. I cut the stem off the rose as I only wanted the flower itself.

I put the label at the top of the plaque with St. Georges day hand written on it.

This is just a simple project but I hope someone will be inspired enough to have a go, maybe for another special day. Remember projects don't always have to be complicated, simple things can look nice too.

Happy New Years Tag and Card by Pam Bray

Happy New Year and "huge" Thank You to all of our Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts fans!!! We are always so excited when you come to the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Blog to see all the wonderful items that we create using Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts chippies!

Today I am sharing my combination New Year Tag and Thank You Card using Tags In A Box Display, Feathery Flourishes Set, Filigree Frame Shape Set, Damask Singles, and doilies.

Adhere pattern paper to the top of one of the tags from Tags In A Box Display. Lay stencil on top of prepared tag; apply crackle paste with palette knife. Dry.
