What would Jane do?

Jane Austen, one of my favorite authors. A great story teller and very pithy as well. I see her as the very proper, mannerly Dorothy Parker of her time. She wore velvet gloves and pretty dresses, but I'm not fooled...she was witty and sharp as a tack. It's a good thing she was a proper lady, because I get the impression that Miss Jane did not suffer fools.
There is a book out called "What Would Jane Do?: Quips and Wisdom from Jane Austen" that inspired this piece. And Jane herself, of course!

What would Jane do in a difficult situation? Would she put the kettle on? Be politely sympathetic to a gossipy old busybody?

Or would she give the hornets nest a ladylike shove?

I think the answer to that is that Jane would do both!

I started off this project with the Square Shrine Gatefold and taped the pieces together using Linen Book Binding tape.
I made sure there was at least a generous quarter inch space between the pieces in order to accommodate both the fold and the thickness of the die-cut pieces I used inside. I tested it out before I made anything permanent.

I wanted the inside to be reminiscent of a wallpapered room with wainscot, so I chose two complimentary papers.

Though the center piece is higher than the side pieces, I made sure that the bottom striped paper was level all the way across all three pieces. I glued all my papers down front and back.

I cut two images from my collage sheet of Jane that fit into the Flourished Frame-Elizabeth (coming soon) And glued them to a piece of cardboard I cut to fit the inside of the frame.
I used components from the Tea Time Shape and Border Set on both sides of the Gatefold, painting them white and giving them a little shadow and detail to add a bit of dimension.
I couldn't resist covering the teapot with pink polka dots...so cute!
I also used the Victorian Corners 2 as details under the spoons. I cut the ends off of both to accommodate the What Would Jane Do plaque as I had a spot of trouble getting it to stay flat!
I also used a poster paint marker in white to add little dots and details to the piece. So fun to think of Jane and all the wonderful hours of reading I have had with her. Now I'm off to have a cuppa!

Tea Composition Box by Dianna

Hi everyone! This was my first shabby styled project and also was my mother's day gift to my mom. We both love tea so I made her something that matched her new bedroom colors and her love of tea.

I painted Gina's Designs Composition Box white and then used a light beige to create a white washed look (which you cannot see but is there).  I used Graphic 45 Botanical Tea paper and fussy cut the birds, teapot and rose.  I tore the teal paper and distressed it for the background.  Then I used a teal spritz on Gina's Designs Cardstock Doily.

The bottom box has a lace back and an Art Deco brooch with a black ribbon bow.  I stamped a Victorian lady stamp and left it black and white except for the hat and dress which I colored with Copic markers.

The second box's back was papered with Graphic 45 Botanical Tea and the humming birds. The butterfly is from Gina's Designs and I used Sparkling H20's. The key was painted white then silver to create a marbled effect. The yellow rose is from Graphic 45 and the embossed cut outs were distressed with ink.  I used a row of seed pearls on the edge of the embossed cut out. The third box has 1/2 of a Gina's Designs Cardstock Doily lightly distressed. The teal button is one of two used in the box. The tea cup and spoon is from Gina's and were painted white then chalk ink was applied. The flower stamp is from Graphic 45. The flowers were white and spritzed with teal paint, allowed to dry then spritzed again with a silver mist. The little frame is actually a ball label holder that I got on clearance. The frame was a bright gold so I lightly painted white then went over it with a silver sharpie. I put black velvet ribbon behind it and used buttons from my stash.

Below is a Composition Box that I did for Halloween 2014.  I wanted to show how different the Composition Box looks with different ideas.

Thank you for looking :)

Mad Hatter Birthday Hat by Dianna

Hi everyone and a happy 3rd Birthday to Gina's Designs!  Gina helped make this idea a reality - thank you, Gina! She cut this hat for me and was very supportive when I took over her craft room and decoupaged everything in sight.

The paper is actually book pages from Alice in Wonderland that was lavishly distressed with ink.  I did use color pencils on some of the pages.  I used Beacon's Fast Finish Decoupage and it was a pleasure to work with (Warning! This stuff is like water so a little easier to work with and it does dry fast).  The above picture is a side shot but I wanted it to be the first picture.  I used a blown up picture of the mad hatter and placed one of Gina's Designs tea cups in front of the mad hatter.  I used Sparkling H20's on Gina's feathers and some of the left over rosette from the hat band.  I added the cards to celebrate Gina's Designs 3rd Birthday!

This picture is actually the front of the hat.  I used Gina's Designs String Alongs - Alice and applied Sparkling H20's.  The pocket watch was cut from a String Alongs and I included a metal watch face.  The white rabbit is a stamp from Deep Red colored with Copic Markers.  The blue band is a rosette die that was cut from blue paper.

The caterpillar was cut out from a Alice in Wonderland page and popped up on one of Gina's mushrooms. Sparking H20's was used on the mushrooms to give them some depth.  This Alice is a stamp from Saturated Canary and colored with Copic Markers.

There was a lot going on here with all of the colored pages so I used a hat from Gina's Alice String Alongs to brake it up a little.

This is the top of the hat, I just had to include the Cheshire Cat :)

Thank you for looking!

Tea With Alice Mixed Media Canvas by Kim

Hello friends, happy Friday!  Today I am sharing a fun mixed media canvas I have created for a very special little lady named Alice.  Alice is the grand daughter of a dear friend of mine and I created this canvas for her room.

I started off with some pink floral paper I had in my stash then layered on some sprays in pastel pinks and blues.  I took a Crafter's Workshop alphabet stencil for more layering and then it was time to embellish with the amazing custom Alice in Wonderland chipboard pieces that Gina custom created for me.

I gave Alice an all over embossing with a light blue embossing powder and used a white Sharpie paint pen to draw on her white apron. I gave the little teapot some silver embossing powder and positioned the piece on the canvas to make it appear that it was pouring out the letters to Alice's name.

Above here you can see the lovely White Rabbit who was embossed with some chunky white embossing powder. I added some hot pink stickers to him to make him stand out and used the Heart Scribble Frame around him along with the "Curiouser and Curiouser" sentiment which came with the Alice Set.

Finally, I added the tea pot from the Tea Time shape set, and used some white paint and a clock stencil to give it dimension.  Some flowers, laces and resin pieces finished off the canvas.

I hope you have enjoyed this fun trip "down the rabbit hole" with me!
