I've layered the chipboard.
I've even layered the bows.

And topped it all off with layered flowers.
But not even I am expert enough to layer pearls : (

One design, two cards with Alicia Barry

Every now and then, a card design really comes together. I really loved this first one that I made, so what I like to do is immediately repeat the design on a second card, but I like to substitute some of the main elements. What I ended up with is two cards that I love, that look quite different, but are actual the same design. The best part was the second one came together really quickly.

I started out with a 5x7 card base, and layered two co-ordinating patterned papers leaving a small border between them. The third layer is a journaling card from the same collection. I used foam dots on this layer to add dimension.

Both of my frames from the Filigree frames Shape Set were inked with grey ink, then randomly coated in metallic embossing powder. Some of it blew away as I heated (must need new glue), but I actually love the speckled effect that resulted from it. I backed each of the frames in a plain coloured paper to help ground them and create a base for the title.

The titles, butterflies and dragonflies have a coat of gold glitter embossing powder. These turned out even better than I imagined. I originally wanted a matt gold to mimick the gold foil in the paper, but this is what I have, and I love it. It has a really cool texture too.

The final additions were fussy cut flowers, paper roses and some gauze, along with some tiny drops of dimensional paint.

Seasons of Joy Christmas Scissors by Pam Bray

Happy Saturday to all of our Gyspy Soul Laser Cuts Fans!!! Pam here today to share with you a fun and easy Seasons of Joy Christmas Scissors Wall Décor to add to your holiday decoration this year or to gift to a special person on your holiday list!

Begin by painting Scissors Wall Décor with black paint, dry. Repeat with Weathered Wood; dry and lastly with Crackle Paste to achieve the crackle look. Next you will give a wash of the yellow and red paint; drying between coats. Lastly, add different layers of Metallic Lustre to achieve that vintage, rusty feel you like for your Seasons of Joy Christmas Scissors Wall Décor. Spatter with white and black paint; dry.

Paint a frame from the Filigree Frames and Shape Set using paint and lustre to continue your vintage look. Adhere to the center of the prepared scissors. Add chipboard piece to center of frame. Wrap frame with brown twine.

Add miniature poinsettia, white flowers, berries and pinecones randomly along edge of Filigree Frame.

Paint Leafy Swirl with paint and apply a bit of the lustre to edges. Stamp with background stamp and black paint. Spatter with white and black paint. Adhere prepared Leafy Swirl under florals.

Add tan twine bow and rusty jingle bells to finish your Seasons of Joy Christmas Scissors.

I hope you are inspired to create the Seasons of Joy Christmas Scissors for your gift giving this holiday season or to keep in mind as you enter the New Year. You Make Me Smile Canvas by Barbara Rankin

Hi everyone!  Barbara here today on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog.  I am sharing my mixed media canvas inspired by the phrase "You Make Me Smile" chippie and this pretty little girl image.  I used Fall colors, as well, in keeping with the season.

Cut piece of wood planks paper from the 12x12 pad, use distress tool along edges.  Adhere to 8x10 canvas, and brush a coat of fluid matte medium over top of canvas.

Randomly spread light molding paste through stencil with spatula and let dry.

Mist canvas with Peony and Gilded Color Bloom (CB) spray mists.  Let dry.

Mist canvas with Tattered Angels (TA) Cork.  Let dry.

Next, brush on a wash of white gesso + water to blend colors and let dry.

Lay piece of chainlink chippie over canvas and mist with ColourArte Radiant Rain Autumn Leaves Mist, let dry.

Rub small amounts of Galaxy Gelato around the edge of the canvas, and on one side of the larger circles.  Use finger to blend gelato.  You can also wet your finger or use a damp baby wipe for easier blending.

Spray a clear acrylic sealer over canvas to keep water-based mediums, like the gelato and mists, from running.  Let sealer dry.  Dip paint brush into Peony CB spray mist bottle and color top half of circles.  While mist is still wet, add Odyssey gelato to center and blend with finger.  Let dry.

Draw around circles with a black watercolor pencil.  I used a Stabilio All black pencil, but use whatever you have.  Wet finger and blend pencil to add shading around circle.

Center and trace rectangular inner edge of filigree frame over collage sheet image and cut excess away.

Use flesh colored pencils to add a bit of pink to girl's face and cheeks.

Paint "You Make Me Smile" and large rectangular Filigree Frame with rich espresso paint and flat edge of makeup sponge.

Glue frame over collage image.

Glue inner piece of chipboard from the frame to the back for added dimension when adhered to canvas.

Brush a coat of clear crackle glaze over image; let dry.

I added random patches of the Silver Spark metallic lustre over the phrase and frame to help it stand out a bit from the background.

Adhere chipboard frame, phrase, and embellishments of your choice around frame, as shown in final photo at top of post.

Here are a few close ups of the canvas.

Create art with Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts

Hi all, I teach kids art classes in my home, and thought this would make a lovely addition to our work space. I started with a Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Dovetail banner. There are a few different options for these in the store. I chose to work with the "Create" banner. Of course, you could also substitute any other word you like.

The kit comes with 3 parts for each banner section; a scalloped base, banner layer and letter. These are all cut from .030 chipboard. This is a little thinner than other kits on the store, which makes it perfect for embossing.

I coated each piece with gesso, and ran the white layers through my embossing machine, with a different pattern on each piece.

I wanted to create a rainbow effect. I created this with varying shades of each colour using paint sprays. I just kept adding and playing with each one until I was happy with the look. The more colour I added, the more the embossed image became visible. Remember to heat set between colours. I also blotted with paper towel to get a more even look.

I then added some metallic gold spray to each and sprinkled with fine gold glitter before heat setting. This created a cohesive look across all the pieces.

I used simple jute to tie my pieces together. I coated the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Filigree Frames in gold silk paint, and used them to highlight some of the letters.

I coated the letters in black gesso and left them plain. This created a stark contrast with the coloured background and made them stand out, as well as visually tying it together with the base layer.

Finally I added a few little leaves and flowers in matching colours,  to each letter to embellish, along with a small piece of gauze for texture. The minimal embellishing allows the embossed background to remain a focus.

Supplies used:

Lindy's Stamp Gang paint sprays
Embossing folders-various
Jute
Paper roses and leaves
Finnabair art basics gesso
Dina Wakely black gesso
Gauze mesh
Silk paint: Sunflower
Fine gold glitter
