Christmas in July Traditional Santa Greeting Card

Hey there Peeps! Ginny here to share a card I created to get a jump on the  Christmas projects I need to prepare for the holiday.   There's never enough time when you're cooking and shopping and decking the halls.

The background for this card is an embossed and inked crème colored cardstock with layers of altered chipboard pieces, vintage Santa image, flowers, ribbon and berry picks.

I created some sweet little windows with the 4 Panel Square Window Set.  Just a quick base coat of flat white acrylic paint and a little inking on the edge then adhered to velum and given a faux icicle effect.  Victorian Corners 2 were given a quick heat embossing with white embossing powder then attached to the corner of the window frame.

The Brick Wall texture helps to fill the corner and creates a nice base for the Medallions Stars.
A pair of coordinating flowers added under and over the corner of this vintage digital image are a nice finishing touch.

I added a nice collection of flowers and glittery branches and berries along with polka dotty ribbon, burlap twine, and a stamped sentiment.

Tiny Little Birdhouses

Hey everyone. Welcome to another day of inspiration. Shanna here with a bit of shadowbox inspiration. Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts has these amazing little boxes called Bagatelle Boxes. 

I covered the boxes with resin, and painted everything with some yellow paint. I painted all of my chipboard pieces with other colors. 

I used some wire to create the sign for my box. 

Here you can see I added cardboard to give a little dimension which helped hide the wire as well. 

Here you can see the resin detail on the outside of the box. 

Here is the tiny bird box and tiny bird house. I love this piece. It definitely adds a pop of color to my desk as well.

"I Believe in Fairies" with ColourArte by Pam Bray

Hi!!! Pam here today sharing my "I Believe in Fairies Canvas" using Colurart Radiant Rain and Primary Elements along with Gypsy Soul Lasercuts Scribble Frame Fairy and Catweed Shape Set. 

Begin by first giving your 8" x 8" canvas a good coat of Crackle Paste. Dry completely.

Spray with Radiant Rain, allowing to dry between coats.

Mix Primary Elements with Crackle Paste to achieve the paint colors you would like. Place stencils on top of prepared canvas and apply different hues of paint over different stencils. Allowing each paste and stencil application to dry completely before repeating with next stencil.

Paint the  Scribble Frame Fairy and Catweed Shape Set with mixes of paint and Primary Elements Powder to get the paint colors you need to work with.

Die cut pattern paper medallion and adhere to top of prepared canvas. Adhere prepared Scribble Frame Fairy to top of canvas.

Adhere prepared Catweed Shape Set to top of canvas. Add flowers to top of Catweed Shape Set.

Adhere prepared "Wish" sentiment from the Scribble Frame Fairy Set along with the "I Believe in Fairies" journal block.

Prison Cell - Part Three

Hey guys, Jess here to update you on the prison cell project. Last week we ended with finishing the floor and filling in with poly filla.

The longest part of painting a project is usually waiting for it to dry - especially when you're using several layers of washes which contain more water than paint. I had to begin by "black basing" the prison cell. I had to mix a small amount of black paint with lots of water so that it would drip into the crevices between each brick. Once dry, I had to add another 2-3 layers of the black wash.

The key for stone is layering and dry brushing grey paint.

Here's a dry brushed grey stone, but old stone isn't just grey, is it? It's got layers, it's brown and mossy and has more colour opportunities. So we go back to making various washes.

Green wash between the bricks to add a mossy look. Then I used a damp brush with just water on it to thin it and spread it out more fully.

Here you'll also see I clipped some of the bars on the back window to add more dimension to the project.

Here's the green mixed in more - we have more layering of washes to go - this process took me a full day to get right.

Here you can see the layers of brown washes, green washes and then a muddying of the two together to get the stone to look older and more well worn.

I use jewelry wire to push through the foam as something to hold the chain you'll see below.

I carved the mattress and wood base out of one solid piece of pink foam. I took a nail file to it to indent it and make it look more like an old mattress. On the wall here you'll also see foam painted to look like wood that I've pushed jewelry wire through so that I can attach jewelry chain to, as seen below: 

I got this chain from Dollar Tree and it works perfectly in scale for 1:12 chain. This is used to "hold up" the bed.

Floral Memo Board by Barbara

Hi everyone.  It's Thursday again, and that means I am up on the Gypsy Soul Laser Crafts blog!  When I got this Memo Board, I knew I was going to love it.  I am sure you will, too.  Just think of all the uses.  You can hang it on the wall, set it on an easel, add magnets to the back to hang on your fridge.  The possibilities are endless.

Lay your pieces out to determine how to glue them together.

Paint portions of chipboard that will not be covered with paper.  I mixed two colors of pink and salmon chalk ink to get a color to match my paper. 

Cut scrapbook paper of your choice to size and adhere pieces to front and top and bottom of tray section.  Leave back uncovered for now.  (Be sure to cut out the holes you may have covered with paper so that you can still glue the pieces together.)

Now glue the tray shelf to the bottom of the board, as well as the trim pieces. 

I cut thin 1/4" strips of the same paper to add to the bottom of the tray shelf to cover where the chipboard joins.   I think it gives it a really nice finish.

Next, lay out your chipboard pieces to see how they will look, as well as the clip that will be placed in the center.

I first gave my chipboard pieces of coat of chalk paint in the color I wanted as an under tone.

Next, I gave details and dimension to the pieces, first with ColourArte Twinkling H20s, and then some extra shading was added with Gelatos.  I computer-generated "MEMO" onto a scrap of my paper to fit inside the miniature bookplate.

Before adhering any chipboard, I wanted to get the clip attached.  I centered it and penciled in where I needed to punch my hole for the brad to go through.  I used my Big Bite crop-a-dile to punch the hole.  Then I used some quick grab glue on the back, as well as inserting the brad through the clip and the board to hold it in place. 

Then I covered the back of my memo board with another coordinating paper.  Now it is nicely finished off on the back, as well.

I started adding my chipboard pieces, as shown in the close-ups below.  You can see where I added the MEMO bookplate to the clip, and some flower embellishments to my leaves.

"Down the Rabbit Hole" - a Shadow Box by Linsey

Hello friends! Linsey here again with my third guest designer project. Today's theme is one of my all-time favorites, Alice In Wonderland!  GSLC carries some really fun "Alice" themed chipboard and I had a fabulous time creating with them. Now, it's time to follow the white rabbit, go through the keyhole and let your curiosity take you away into a magical wonderland where imagination is the limit! Don't be late!

I started with the House Shadow Box, first putting it together with a good wood glue, then painting all the edges in white chalky paint. Next I started "wallpapering" each room with different patterned papers in hot pink, black and white with pops of gold. Then I took several pieces from Alice In Wonderland Chipboard Silhouettes and Alice String Alongs, heat embossing each piece. Now, time for really fun part--decorating the rooms! Some of the silhouettes were positioned flat against the wall and some were propped forward for a 3D effect. Here's a close-up peek into each room.
The flower garden in Alice's dream...I painted the Art Deco Border & Corners chipboard black, then embossed them in clear, creating this cool shine on the garden "gate".

The white rabbit always carries his pocket watch on his ventures out, yet he's still running late! This little piece reads "follow after your bliss". Always a good reminder.

Do you remember the scene in the Disney movie where Alice has an encounter with a most talkative doorknob and end up going through the keyhole where she travels along the sea in a bottle? I chose a few pieces from the Keys & Plates Shape Set to create this little room.

Another of Alice's adventures I remember fondly was when she followed the white rabbit to his home and after eating a treat, grew so big, her arms and legs popped through the windows and her head came out the roof, causing much stress on poor white rabbit. Oh, dear Alice...curiosity always was your weakness.

Of course, I had to include the infamous Mad Hatter's Tea Party scene and it was super easy with a few chippies from the Alice In Wonderland Chipboard Silhouettes.  And a very merry un-birthday to you!

The caterpillar that Alice crosses paths with is another favorites scene. Here he is, doing what he does best.  A, E, I, O......

When Alice finally meets the Queen of Hearts, it's not exactly a sweet encounter. "Off with her head" doesn't leave a good first impression, am I right?

For the top room, I created a big clock using the Wood Medallions 1 and the Steampunk Shape Set. The Wooden Charm-Dream was also added and a couple more Alice themed chippies. The roof was designed using the 12x12 Texture Sheet-Diamonds. I cut in down to size and painted it black, then embossed in clear for the shine. It matches the garden gate and deco corners on the house.
