Haunted House card

Happy Wednesday my friends.  Cherry here today with a fun project for you created for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts!!!

A spoooktacular card using some fun chippies from the store including the Haunted House oval and the Lace frame.

I used my embossing tool to emboss both pieces with embossing powder. Usually when embossing I will emboss several pieces so I have them on hand for later. 

 From there I covered my card stock with papers and layered my chipboard on top and added some ribbons.

 I decided to make this card extra special and added some details inside the card.

 These pieces are so fun and whimsical. 

Here it is done!!!  I love how the Spooky Spooky peeks out from the side of the card.

Halloween Artist Trading Blocks by Susan

Hello crafty folks!  Today I'm sharing a cute set of Halloween-themed stackable Artist Trading Blocks from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.

The artist trading block set comes in a package of three graduated sizes.  They are pre-scored and easy to bed into place.

I used clamps to hold each section together while the glue set.  You can see in some of these photos that I punched a hole in the front panel of each.  I was considering knobs or some such embellishment and wanted to have the hole available.  I didn't end up using the holes and the paper covered them nicely.

Once the sides and bottom were dry, I cut a strip of paper to wrap around.  Using a pencil and scoring tool I prepared the paper.  Scoring makes nice corners but isn't critical -- you can easily just use fingers to wrap the paper closely around the corners.

I glued one panel at a time, using the brayer to flatten the glue as much as possible under the paper.  You can also mix your glue with a tiny amount of water and brush it onto the box.

You can see I've cut out my bottom panel. I set the box on top of paper and traced around, then tweaked as needed with a paper trimmer.

The top was traced and tweaked also.  By this time I knew I wasn't going to use the front holes so I could seal the box up.  I started with the front flap, then glued the paper to the top of the box.

Once that dried I glued the front flap of each box, using a weight to hold it down while the glue set up.

The next day I decorated with Dresden trim to disguise most of the joints between different paper pieces.

This is a cute set!  I'm looking forward to making a set with Christmas paper, too.

Darkness-mixed media canvas by Lynne

Hey there crafty friends; as some of you may know, I don't tend to make a lot of Halloween projects, especially not the really creepy things, but this one is a bit of an exception. Our local art store is having a Halloween-themed competition, and I decided to throw my (pointy, black) hat into the ring!

We had the choice of either a 16x20 black canvas or 9x12 black or canvas drawing paper, so of course I scooped a canvas, as I love using my Gypsy Soul chipboard for assemblage on canvases or on 3D items.

After attaching the image and the quote, I chose my chipboard pieces from several shape sets. The bats were run through a reptile-skin embossing folder before being attached to the canvas.

The tree was run through a woodgrain embossing folder.

The ravens were covered with texture paste; I used my finger to spread it to get the rough, feathery texture I wanted.

I arranged the chipboard pieces and a variety of flowers, fibers, metal items, etc onto the canvas in a diagonal pattern and stencilled here and there with texture paste. Keep in mind that projects like this are a great way to use up odd coloured items, and you can mix metals, as they will all be covered in black gesso before any colour is added.

After everything was arranged the way I wanted, I covered everything except the paper image (which was found in Google images) in black gesso.

The next part was so much fun; I had just gotten two new Art Alchemy waxes with this project in mind and couldn't wait to try them out! I started with the Aged Iron Metallique Wax and applied it to most of the embellishments and raised surfaces, using my finger and a small piece of paper towel for blending. I then began adding Royal Robes (purple) Opal Magic Wax here and there, rubbing some into some flat parts of the canvas as well.

I liked the effect of just these two colours but was bothered by the contrast between the sheen of the waxed parts and the matte finish of the areas without wax....so I pulled out a couple other goodies-ColourArte Silks in Iridescent Green and Twinkling H20s in Meridian blue. I concentrated these mostly on the areas of flat canvas that had not been coloured, although I did add a little to some of the embellishments to make them stand out a bit more. When I was done adding these colours I was much happier with the overall effect. I then sprayed a little Perfect Pearls mist in Pewter, mostly in the larger open spaces, to soften the lines created by brushing on the paints I added a few tiny acrylic teardrops here and there and then I was done.

Fall in Love Page

Hi Everyone... today I am sharing a fall page I made with one of my favorite chippie assortements called "Cottage Windows Large".  I love these because they are perfect for pages and mini books and the are great to make that perfect picture you have really stand out.  There are 3 in the set and each of them is different and for mine I chose the simple cutout top to put my picture in.  

My papers are by Prima and are from a new fall line they have ,so it was perfect to do my daughters wedding pages with since she got married in October last year.  Yep-- i am still working on them :)

I also used lots of flowers to create a pretty border at the bottom of my page and let all the magic from the chipboard and the papers do the rest.  I love when you find something really special and it works out better than you planned and goes together really easy.  This one is going into a frame for the wall.

And sorry I didn't do much of a tutorial ... next time for sure!

Tea Party Halloween Card by Pam Bray

Happy Saturday Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Fans!!! Pam here today sharing my Tea Party Halloween Card using some amazing GSLaser Cuts Chippies!!!

Begin your Halloween card by applying inks to piece of cream card stock; dry.

Stamp background with black ink.

Apply rust embossing powder to top of Double Window Ornate using Boss Gloss; heat set with embossing gun. Add paper with fussy cut image to back of the  prepared Double Window Ornate.

Adhere prepared ink background paper, pattern paper and embossed Double Window Ornate to top of card front.

Paint two mice from the Creepy Critters and one of the candlesticks from the Candlesticks with white paint; dry.

 Paint prepared mice and candlestick; dry. Do line work with Micron Pen.

Spatter prepared mice and candlestick with paint; dry. Adhere to top of Double Window Ornate.

Add sentiment from pattern paper with stapler.

Add prepared candlestick and last mouse to front of card. Make bow and add to front of card along with berries.

Junk Journal featuring Queen Anne's Lace

Hi everyone, Jennalee here today with a quick junk journal featuring lots of fun Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts. When I saw the Queen Anne's Lace flower laser cuts I instantly knew I wanted to make a junk journal with them. You'll have to forgive me I got so caught up in the creating process I forgot to take step by step pics, but don't worry I'll walk you thru the process. Let's get started!!

The largest of the 3 Queen Anne's Lace flowers is the star of the layered and stitched cover. 

To color the flower paint a layer of Raw Umber. Allow to dry, Spray with a gold shimmer spray. Begin by adding random swipes of gesso using a palette knife to the front cover. Then stitch on a layer of green burlap. 

On top of the burlap layer and stitch scraps of vintage book text. Then glue on small pieces of ephemera. 

Run a decorative stitch down the edge of the cover. Alternately you could stamp a border along the edge. 

For the title page stitch together a collage of vintage book text. Glue onto first page. Emboss Scribble Frame Leaves. Determine the position of the frame on page. Paint a layer of gesso where frame will go to allow for the addition of a title to be added. 

Color the mid-sized Queen Anne's Lace piece the same as the piece used on the cover. 

For all pages of the junk journal tear or cut vintage dictionary pages to size. Add decorative stitching to edges of each dictionary page. Using a palette knife spread a layer of gesso across the text. This allows for a "blank" background for each journal page. Writing or collage can be added as desired. Glue each dictionary page into the journal.  

Emboss Printers Ornament Corners with Salted Wine. Glue to opposite corners. 

Color the smallest Queen Anne's Lace piece same as before. Glue into journal spread. 

To add some interest to the edges and draw people into your journal add some pieces that hang off the edge of the page. 

Emboss Meadow Flowers using Camo Ammo. Glue along bottom edge of the final page of journal. 

Here is a side view of all the chunky goodness peeking out. I absolutely love how the Scribble Frame Leaves hang out over the edge.
