Paper Flower Fairy House Shrines

You know what I love? Smashing every single thing I love all into one project. Houses, little things,  shrines, butterflies, fairies... check, check, check....

Start with some super cute Mini House Shadowboxes and off you go! There are four different sizes available, each adorably tiny.

To embellish I've used old music sheets inside, and scrapbook paper on the exterior. 

A snip of Gold Tiny Dot Dresden Borders trims each roof.

Inside a paper fairy made from this Matchbox Fairy Collage Sheet with Transparent Wings. Paper butterflies, a pinch of moss, and few sprinkles of "faux flowers" finish those pretty things off.

The most difficult part of this project is cutting out the fairies, but with a pair of sharp scissors and a bit of patience you'll do just fine. If you want to see the whole process of assembling these pretties I have a video walk-through available HERE .

Endangered

Since my husband and I started keeping bees a few years ago, several species have been classified as endangered. I'm here to share a little piece dedicated to one of our most important insects.

 

This project started with a GSL Mini House Shadowbox 1 and my box of colorful paper scraps. The shadowbox is easily assembled from a rear wall, two side walls, a floor and two roof pieces. I used the rear wall piece as a tracing template and inked the paper's edges with Ranger distress ink before gluing it in place. 

I painted the front edges in a cheerful teal blue acrylic paint and added a blue star paper for the floor.

A bee sticker was placed inside a GSL 3 Inch Cage with Solid Back that I painted gold and papered with a yellow rose floral paper scrap.

I used two of the GSL Turrets Set of 4 for the guard houses. The interior surfaces were painted teal, the roof pieces were painted purple and the exteriors were painted apple green. I added a piece of star shaped glitter to the front of both houses.

The guards were assembled from an HO scale Preiser Carnival set. 

Painting them was a bit meticulous. I also painted a stamped metal hand in teal and purple. 

Adding the hand helps bring attention to the bee. 

I chose a polka dot paper flower for the top of the bird cage.  Then set the guards and their houses in place.

Tiny Dancer by Betsy Skagen

I had so much fun making this altered art project. After my massive undertaking of Kringle's Toy Store, I wanted to tackle something a little less time consuming.

I think one thing that made the Tiny Dancer Shadowbox so much fun is that when I started I had no idea what the end result would be. I began by gathering the tiny pink dancer and the Mini House Shadowbox and let serendipity take its course.

Tutorial on How to Make the Tiny Dancer Altered Art Shadowbox

Begin by adhering decorative paper to what will be the interior sides of the Mini House Shadowbox 1.

Stamp clock and moon images onto the interior back of the box with embossing ink, apply Charred Gold Embossing Powder and heat set.

Cut a Filmstrip Mini Sheet so that it appears torn. Apply Charred Gold Embossing Powder to the filmstrip using embossing ink. Heat set. Then apply Verdigras Sparkle Embossing Powder using embossing ink and again heat set.

Assemble the Mini House Shadowbox using strong adhesive. Adhere decorative paper to the outside. Stamp a ticket onto paper. Distress with brown ink. Cut out, while leaving an edge to form a stand.

Ink the edges of the house with brown ink. Apply embossing ink and Charred Gold Embossing Powder to the corners, roof peak and roof edges. Heat set.

Glue the filmstrip, ticket and dancer inside the box. Add fringe ribbon to the roof line.

After you hang a star from the ceiling and add fringe ribbon to the roof line your Tiny Dancer Shadowbox is complete.

Christmas Wishes

Hi Everyone,

Jess here today with a Christmas piece that could be a wall hanging or an ornament.  

I started with a canvas tag and added various shades of green Distress Inks.  

Once the ink was dry I added the stars using a stencil and Festive Berries Distress Ink. 

The house is the Mini House Shadowbox 1.  I love these teeny houses and they come in four different sizes.  I covered the house inside and out with paper and then embossed the front edges. 

A tiny bottle brush tree and deer were popped in there.  Mica snow was added to the roof and the bottom of the house.  A vintage bingo marker gives that extra Christmas magic.  

I covered the Large Swirl Medallion with embossing powder and then glued the house in the center.  The medallion was then glued to the canvas tag.  Look at how fine the cuts are on this thing! I love this medallion.  

A rub on was added to the top and the piece is done!

It's a Good Day to Craft

Hi!! Jennalee here today with a fun mash-up from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and 7Gypsies. Our theme was "Small World". I was digging thru my stash of awesome Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and ran across the Mini House Shadow Box #1 and from there my idea took shape when I started looking thru the awesome 7Gypsies pieces we were sent. 

I started by painting all the pieces of the Mini House Shadow Box a mint green.

I then added 7Gypsies Architextures Junque Pack - Attic. I added a touch of Ivory acrylic paint to the raised parts of the Architextures sticker.

One of my favorite parts of the 7Gypsies line is their packaging. It can easily be incorporated into your project. I used the packaging from the Architexture stickers to line the floor of the Mini House Shadow Box and the outside walls. I cut to size and applied using Distress Collage Medium. Added a coat of Distress Collage Crazing Medium. Once the Crazing Medium dries enhance crazing with Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.

The idea for a sewing themed Shadow Box came from one of the tiny clippings off this charming scrapbook paper Go & Be.

The "A Good Day to Craft" clipping made me think of spending a day in my studio surrounded by my favorite supplies. I cut the "good day" clipping and added a bit of Burnt Copper Leaves around the edges to make a frame. 

To complete the roof I added strips cut from the To & Due paper.

Then it was time to decorate my little studio shadow box. I used charms I found in the jewelry section at Michael's. I got a little too excited and forgot to take pictures before throwing out the packaging. Oops!! I added a couple vintage buttons from my stash to complete the piece. 

I love the shadow boxes from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts!! This was my first time working with products from 7Gypsies and I think it's safe to say it won't be my last.

Birthday Wishes Shrine By Ginny

Hey there Peeps! Dropping in today to share a little gifty I made for my BFF Kathy. This little shrine is hopefully full of Birthday wishes that will come true. I'm starting with the Mini House Shadowbox 1 and adding mixed media layers, papers, eve a tiny jar of glitter in a painted trophy cup.

That little shadowbox is just the right size to display a few tiny treasures.  I've also added Wheels to make it a bit of a gypsy wagon.

There is a fabulous aged effect on the walls of the little house created with crackle paste and layers of paints and gel stains. Metal butterflies coordinate well and add some depth.

Inside there's a tiny painted trophy cup with a tiny jar of Birthday wishes....it's actually Stampendous Shaved Ice mixed with Silvery Glass Glitter. I tied a length of silver twine and attached some matching keys. To fill in the bottom I added moss to hopefully give it a fairy quality.   I finished the inside of the shadowbox with the same aged finish.....but it's difficult to see in the picture.

Little Houses With Guest Designer Katie Zoey Ho

Hi Everyone,

Katie here with my 3rd guest post with GSL. Sharing here today will be some wee houses using the mini shadowbox houses. They are just so cute that I’d have to make all of them and hope I could do more.

Using Graphic 45 Gilded Lily papers and with Petaloo flowers, I made these wee houses showing the various lilies as the center of display.
