Mermaid Silhouette Luminary

The weather has been absolutely glorious here and my pool is all glistening ripples. I'm going to be taking advantage and become a total mermaid this summer. I created a little something to encourage my sea maiden ambitions.

I've used an simple, straight sided vase as a base for my luminary. You could absolutely use a jar for but this was inexpensive ($2) and the was no mucking around to fit your hand inside. 

I've used a spray to frost the glass and tinted it with washes of acrylic paint. You can see my process by visiting THIS video walkthrough.

I've placed two figures from the Mermaids Shape Set inside my vase. The firgures in this set are quite sizable, so if you're working with small jars I'd recommend considering the Mermaids Miniatures instead.

I've added shells. cheesecloth, and unraveled twine at the base of my luminary, as well as a Word Tag. There's some wired glass baubles that poke out here and there and look wonderfully like bubbles.

For a seaweed effect, I've used snips of the Leafy Swirl cutouts.

You could add an led candle inside the vase, or a string of lights, but I think it looks rather pretty just sitting in front of a bright window... especially one that overlooks the pool and reminds me to jump in, make a splash and mermaid my heart out!

"The Sea" Mixed Media Tag

Hello everyone!  Barbara here with more chipboard fun using Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts!  I love tags, and these extra large tags from GSL are the perfect substrate to use for not only your scrapbooking, but also for your mixed media needs.  They are super thick and will withstand applications of wet media and/or heavy items.

Right now, it seems that everyone is thinking of underwater themes and Summer time at the beach.  I know I am.  So I decided to use some of GSL's newest chipboard releases for my tag.  After all, I may just turn this into a mini album cover, adding more pages to use for a fun Summer mini album or mini art journal.

Steampunk Mermaid Matchbox Theatre by Jessica Armstrong

This week I got to work with some steampunk under-the-sea bits and bobs. The whole theme of this piece is blue and gold - I used gold leaf on all the chipboard pieces, which I'm a huge fan of.

The outside of the box, decorated with a top-hat wearing mermaid, who is holding a steampunk gear-shell.

Simple blue and white scrapbook paper was used to give the piece a watery feel.

Build on top of each previous layer, with the new layer of chipboard gives more dimension.

And out slides the theater piece

I've used some waves and another mermaid and a gear in the background. More layering!

Mixed Media Mermaid Canvas

Hi all! Amylove here with a beautiful mixed media canvas using Gina's amazing chip board pieces. I had never tried a canvas this large before, so I was a bit intimidated, but I was excited to use the mermaids so I just went for it!!!

Hello everyone! Shanna here with a new share.

Summer seems to be trying to take over spring. So I thought why not create a little "summer fun" as I have been creating lots of "springy" projects lately.

When I was unsure of what to create when I thought, "Why not some cards." I was excited to create these awesome ocean style cards using Gina's fun shapes!

All the chipboard got a coat of gesso to prime the surface as I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with them yet. I chose to use a gelato on the sea shells for color and then gave a little coat of Art Anthology's Stone Effects called Sandstone to add more for texture for the sea shells.

The mermaids got edged around with some Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I loved their pop from the Prima papers so much I didn't want to add anything else to them.
