Be A Dreamer layout by Lynne

Hello all! I've fallen madly in love with the photos of these wire sculptures that I've found on Facebook here and decided to use a couple of the images for a layout. I scrap whatever catches my eye, in addition to family/pet photos and the other "normal" subjects people choose for their pages!

First, I primed all the chipboard pieces with white acrylic paint-easy peasy:

I used Faber Castell Texture Gems to draw random lines and squiggles on the flourishes for added texture, then added another layer of white paint when that was dry.

I like the irregularity they add; I then brushed them with ColourArte Twinkling H2Os in Iridescent Blue and Meridian.I dabbed a little Lemondrop Silks here and there on these as well when I was using it on the fairy.

For the aforementioned fairy, I first covered her with white glue and then sprinkled clear glass glitter onto the glue.

 She looked quite pretty and sparkly just like that, but I felt like she got a little lost among the vibrant colours on the page, so I lightly brushed on ColourArte Silks in Lemondrop;the sparkle of the glass glitter still showed through, but the yellow brought the fairy to life where she sat upon the blue flower.

I used white flocking on the last piece; it is Queen Anne's lace, but I thought the shape was close enough to the head of a seeded dandelion to fit in here....now make a wish and blow!

I added some cheesecloth here and there to continue the feeling of dandelion fluff-I love the added bit of texture it adds to a project:

I did some stencilling with blue and yellow texture paste and added a few spritzes of glimmer mist in both colours as well, and added some random border punching and inked edges.

I love adding a variety of textures to all of my layouts, and my Gypsy Soul Lasercuts give me perfect surfaces to do just that-I always enjoy seeing different ways to finish these great pieces, and look forward to seeing your creations! Have a terrific and creative week! xoxo

Bird in Ivy Canvas

Hi everyone!  Barbara here with a mixed media canvas using none other than my favorite laser cut chipboard from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.    

I started with a 6"x8" canvas panel and adhered a section of the Chainlink to it, as shown.

Paint canvas and Chainlink with white gesso.  While I had the gesso out, I went ahead and painted the  Bird in Ivy and one of the Flourishes 2 as well.  The gesso not only seals the chipboard but also gives it a nice, white base to add your colors.

Mist background with Tuscan Sun.

Mist background with Blackberry Cordial.  If the color is too dark in spots, dab excess with a paper towel.

Mist background with Gold.

Rub iced espresso metallic lustre over chainlink, then rub patina gilder's paste randomly over chainlink.

Cover Bird with a piece of paper and mist wreath portion with English Ivy.  Repeat for the  Flourish.  Let dry.

Paint Bird with hot cinnamon, burnt umber, and golden sand H20s.   Paint ivy and flourish with golden jade and moss green H20s.  Paint wreath with burnt umber.

Adhere bird in ivy and flourish to canvas, as shown.

At this point, I decided to add a few more leaves, so I chose my favorite, Fern Fronds.  To prepare them for color, I once again painted them with white gesso.  When that dried, I colored them with golden jade H20s and let that dry.  Next, I used a damp baby wipe to pick up hot cinnamon H20s and dab it over the leaves for this mottled effect.

Adhere fern fronds to canvas, as shown.

Add beaded spray and flowers, as shown.  Lastly, add a bit of glitter glue to the flower petals for an extra bit of sparkle.

Art Journal Page - "Altered Art"

Hello everyone.  Barbara here sharing a fun art journal page with none other than the fabulous laser cut chippies from Gypsy Soul, and this cool Mailbox Muse stamp set from our partners, Altered Pages.  The stamps I received set the tone for my art journal page.

I started with an art journal page that did not turn out as I expected.  

So, I taped the middle with masking tape to protect the rest of the book, and painted the pages with white gesso.  This will give me a nice base to start over.

I had to cover the masking tape over the "sun" with another layer of sand texture paste to make it all match.

Paint the sun with ColourArte Solar Gold Silks.

Paint the right side with Black Emerald and the left side with Autumn Skies Silks to represent day and night.  Don't worry about the brushstrokes now. 

Paint two chipboard pieces from the Mixed Media Fragments #2 set.

Glue to each page, as shown, cutting off the excess. 

Spray the right side with Fern and left side with Snapdragon Radiant Rain Mists.  Mist the pages with water to help the colors run toward the center of the page.  Dry thoroughly before misting both pages with the Pearl Gold mist.

Add Orange Peel Silks to the sun, blending the color into the Solar Gold.

Stamp the flower image all over the background and onto the chipboard with black archival ink.  I stamped the partial image mostly to add interest, so I did not attach it to an acrylic stamp mount.  Simply curl the stamp and press the portion that touches the page.  

Stamp ETCETERA with black archival ink, top right and lower left, as shown.  I did use a stamp block to ensure a clean image.

I chose the chipboard pieces I wanted to use, painted them with white gesso, and laid them out to see how they will look.

Color the chipboard pieces as follows:

Flourishes 2 = Lemondrop + Stargazer + Lumiere Gold Pearl 

Three Stars = Lemondrop + Stargazer

Hinge Straps = Chestnut Brown + Orange Peel +  Lumiere Brass

While the chipboard is drying, use black archival ink to stamp ALTERED ARTIST and the "eclectic" definition onto deli wrap paper. 

Tear around the images and adhere to the journal page with a gloss medium, smoothing out any air bubbles.  The deli wrap disappears into the surface.  Attach the chipboard pieces to the page, as shown.

To add some highlights around the sun and stars, and around the edges, I used a white pen and smudged the in before it dried.  Below are a few closeups of each page.  I printed the words "Sunrise" on the left page, and "Sunset" on the right.  I think that no matter what time of the day, I am always playing at my art, whether actually making something, or just thinking about my next project.  I am sure most of you are doing the same.

Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Tag Box with Inspirational Tags

Hello, friends!  Debbie with you today sharing a  fun Valentine project that you can give as a gift or simply set on your desk or on a table as decoration.  Each tag has a beautiful saying to inspire you to remember what is important in life.  With Valentines Day coming, I thought I would center my project around the heart.

The tag box comes with six tags in the set and the box, like all of Gypsy Souls projects,  is easily assembled with either Tacky Glue or any other strong adhesive. The front of the box is decorated with Filigree Frames Shape Set and Victorian Scrolled Corner set.

 I wanted the tags to be inspirational and with the New Year I wanted them to serve as a reminder to not forget the important things in life.  The first tag states "find joy in the ordinary"  To decorated the tags I used Flourishes 2 and Filigree Frames Shape Set.

The second tag says "a dream is a wish your heart makes".

 "Listen to your Heart, it will show you the way"

"There is nothing like a dream to create the future"

"Don't forget to fly, together is the best place to be"

To decorate the box, I simply covered it with patterned paper and then decorated with chipboard pieces, flowers, mica flakes, splatters and modeling paste and stencil.

I decorated the chipboard pieces with black gesso and then embossed with Utee thick embossing enamel.  I then double embossed them with Lindy's Embossing Powder in a coordinating color.

To finish the tags off I simply embellished as seen and added some twine to the top.

Once Upon A Time Canvas Layout

Hello everyone.  Barbara here, and I have a fanciful, mythical page to share today.  I love these dragon chippies from Gina's, and I still had this beautiful paper from Die Cuts With a View (DCWV) called Once Upon a Time.  Yep, I am a hoarder after all. And a good thing, too, since this was a perfect match for my page today.

If you are a scrapbooker, I figure you could use this page layout with your pictures, just simply by moving some of the embellishments around.  If you are a mixed media artist, bookmaker, or general paper crafter, I thought this would be a nice layout for a canvas, book cover, or even a card, simply using the smaller shapes in the set, or doing a bit of rearranging.  No matter what I choose to make, I really enjoy playing with the different chipboard shapes and experimenting with different ways to embellish them.  So let me tell you what I did.

Lay out your chipboard and paper pieces that you plan to use.  Take a picture (optional) to use as a reference.

Adhere print paper to a 12x12 piece of mat board, distress edges and add brown ink to darken.  Make a very watery color combination using Twinkling H20s Mystic Blue and Douglas Fir, pick up with a watercolor brush and splatter over background .  Pick up those same two colors with a makeup sponge and apply to background through the stars stencil, as shown.



Begin embellishing your chipboard pieces.



Wrought iron border: Cover with black pigment ink and heat emboss with the Antiqued Iron embossing powder.  Adhere along top edge of page, as shown.

Once Upon a Time title:  Heat emboss with Versamark ink and Tarnished Gold embossing powder; edge with Branch Bark ink for depth.

Large standing dragon: Draw details in with pencil (Picture 1).  Mist lightly with water and begin embossing those lines with an embossing tool.  Color dragon as shown with Blue, Lime Green, Teal, Yellow, and Orange Inktense blocks (Picture 2), then go over those with similar colors of Twinkling H20s Mystic Blue, Golden Jade, Douglas Fir, Key Lime, Yellow Rose.  Add details back in by going over embossed lines with a black permanent marker.  Add Crackle Accents to body and Glossy Accents to wings (Picture 3). Adhere to page with foam dots.

Medium and small flying dragons:  Paint one coat of Oyster, then one coat of Warm Gray Silks acrylic glaze.  Combine the Mystic Blue with the Garden Jade Silks Acrylic Glazes and brush over both dragons, letting the colors run, heat with heat tool  Add Waterfall glitter glue to both.  Adhere to page with foam dots.

Flourish (flame): Color with Red and Orange Inktense blocks, then paint over that with Yellow Rose Twinkling H20.  Heat emboss with Versamark ink and clear embossing powder.  Adhere to page with glue, as shown.
