Mini Bath & Body Display

Happy Saturday, everyone! I have a little bath and body display to share today that uses the brand new GSL Composition Display Stand (coming soon). This piece could be used for so many things! I considered setting it for a wedding cake, birthday, cocktail party, bake sale, market stand, so many possibilities. I finally settled on a little soap kiosk. I had a small handmade soap business a few years ago and this brings back memories.

The display stand is made up of six pieces that assemble easily with tacky glue.

I used a rubber band to hold the piece together while the glue dried.

The piece comes with two shelves, I only needed one of them for what I had in mind so set aside the other for a future project (yay, future project!). The shelf was painted with white acrylic paint. All of the paper used in this project is from Stamperia's Secrets of India collection.

Most of the soap I made for this piece are just small bar-shaped chunks of polymer clay. I did, however make an actual tiny embedded heart with melt and pour soap and my smallest polymer clay cutters. I filled the heart cutter with pink soap and set it aside. After it set I unmolded it and set the heart inside the round mold then poured clear soap around it.

Once that was set I was able to unmold and slice it up. So stinking cute!

 

I wanted to include a little gift basket of bath products in this display, the GSL Tiny Octagon Planter Set was perfect. It comes with two sizes included, ½ inch tall and ¾ inch tall. 

I assembled the ¾ inch one and painted it white. It was trimmed with thin white satin ribbon and a white paper flower.

The gift basket was filled with a bar of each of the soaps, a resin rubber ducky and a jar of bath oil beads. Do they even make those any more? These are made from microbeads that came in a set of nail glitters.

A four inch section of GSL Border Sticks - Lace (coming soon) was painted white and fit the display motif perfectly.

Sewing Machine Mini Album

Hello "chippie" friends!  Barbara here today with the cutest little mini sewing machine album I have ever seen.  It comes with the front cover that is cut out in more detail, and five additional solid pages to add your photos, ephemera, memorabilia, buttons, embellishments, or whatever your little ole' heart desires.

I began by covering each chipboard page with scrapbook paper.  I used the Needle and Thread paper collection from Kaisercraft.  I thought this was perfect for my mini sewing album, but any paper that reminds you of sewing, fabric, Mom, home, etc., would work.  

After adhering the paper, I trimmed the excess paper and used an emery board (or sandpaper) to remove any bits that I missed.  When that was done, I painted the edges with an ivory colored acrylic paint.  I thought it would give a more shabby chic look, and it also seals the paper edges.

Ink large scissors with black pigment ink, heat emboss with silver embossing powder.  Since this will be seen from both sides, it is important to decorate both sides with the embossing powder.  Be careful not to re-melt the embossing powder on the opposite side.    When cooled, stamp a small filigree rubber stamp, inked with black archival ink, over the scissors for a vintage look.  Add a small, round metal sticker on both sides where the scissor pieces join. 

Color legs of dress form with copper metallic cream, add small bits of Patina paste to resemble patinated copper.  Adhere burlap paper to bodice of dress form on both sides in case it extends past the cover.

Color both sides of bobbins with Vintage Photo distress stain.  Wrap one with ivory cotton floss or crochet thread.  I later added a tiny sewing quote to the second one (see page 7).

Color the stand with Vintage Photo distress stain, dry thoroughly.  Ink wire portion of dress form with Versamark ink and heat emboss with Rustique Patina Bronze embossing powder.  Cover bodice of dress form with burlap paper. (See Page 2).

Ink dress form with Frayed Burlap distress ink.  Color bodice portion of dress form with Iced Spruce and Peeled Paint distress ink.  Color corset with Picket Fence, Victorian Velvet, and Worn Lipstick distress stains.  This will give some nice variation in the colors.   Thread nylon thread through corset holes and tie off in a bow.   (See Page 8).

Cut apart the large corner from the Fanciful Elements set and color with Bundled Sage distress paint. Dry paint thoroughly before dragging Iced Spruce distress ink pad over the corner elements.  Heat set to dry.  (See Pages 2 and 6).

I fussy cut images from the Kaisercraft papers and from the free collage sheet offered by Gina's Designs Laser Cuts (aka Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts).  I have been collecting embellishments for many years, so I used flowers, metal charms, computer-generated quotes, collage sheets, buttons, ribbon, and anything I found in my stash that I thought would be suitable.

Front Cover
Chipboard dress form, scissors, and bobbin, were added.  A tiny wooden spool with thread wrapped around it was  glued to the top of the spool holder on the album cover.

Chipboard Lady Silhouette and gloves were inked with Versamark and heat embossed with black embossing powder.  Lace border stick section was painted with ivory acrylic paint.

Fairy Godmother Travelling Sales Wagon

There's a special place in my heart for fairy godmothers. Those fluttery, frilly, silly ladies make me positively giddy. I've often wondered where they get their godmotherly supplies from. Is there a shop? A fancy boutique? A traveling salesman!

And so this month I've created a tiny traveling sales wagon for magical and glittery godmother paraphernalia.

The base is a square shrine shadowbox to which I have added 1 inch Fancy Wheels Wheels. I've also added Floral and Lace border sticks for some flourish. A small chipboard crest heralds potential customers to the godmotherly goods.

The wee sign reads "Préciosites", a term I came across when doing some godmotherly research. *It is a French literary style born from the lively conversations and playful word games of witty and educated intellectual ladies from 17th century France... they also happened to retell fairy tales. *according to the Wiki page anywho

Inside the wagon, all manner of items required for godmotherly duties. Fairy dust, candy, pumpkins to turn into carriages.

Absinthe and stout to whet the pallet, magical books, tiny sparkly shoes, wooden wands and wishing stars (and a few butterflies for good measure).

Altered Art Mouse Trap

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first post as a regular design team member for Gina's Designs Lasercut Chipboard.  I am so excited to be here as a regular designer.  I love Gina's chipboard, and the ideas just seem to flow from me whenever I look at her designs.

I was at my stamp club meeting a few weeks ago and we were altering mouse traps.  These make fabulous little note holders.  I had taken some of my Gina's Designs chipboard with me, and I thought, why not share my project with you.

You can purchase mouse traps quite inexpensively from dollar stores, as well as hardware stores.  The first thing I did was remove the holding bar and the u-clip.  See photo below. 

You can paint the base platform or cover it with paper by working around the spring and hammer, you can carefully slide your paper beneath it and glue it down.  Be very careful lifting the hammer so you do not get your finger pinched.

Sanded the platform first.  Then painted it with Broken China, Peeled Paint, and Tarnished Brass distress paints.  I added the ART image to the top section, adding more paint around the image to make it blend into the background.

I used an awl to hold the hammer up while working in that area. I next cut little pieces from the Diamonds Texture Sheet, painting it with the same colors as the platform.  I adhered them, as shown.

I cut away a small piece of the dress form so I can place it around the u-clip that holds the hammer and springs in place, and then I painted it and a key plate with Rusty Hinge distress ink.  I then distressed the edge of the dress form with Gathered Twigs distress ink, and heat embossed the key plate with Versamark ink and rust embossing powder.

Insert two tiny brads through the key plate holes and adhere both shapes to platform.

Paint small dragonfly with Silks Cool Water, Teal Zircon, and Sunburst Silks Acrylic Glaze.  

I painted small butterfly with Ginger Peach, Sunburst, and edge with Bolivian Blue Silks Acrylic Glaze.  Peridot glitter was added to wings, and Amber glitter to butterfly body.

Cut two sections from the Border Sticks Lace strip, color with Rusty Hinge, Tarnished Brass,  Broken China, and Peeled Paint distress paint.  Adhere to top of platform.  Add Cream Pearl Pen dots to upper right corner and three in lower portion.

 

Use an awl to start a hole at the bottom center of the platform, insert a screw eye.  Heat emboss key with Versamark ink and  Rusty Nail embossing powder, then two clock hands with Patina embossing powder.  Hang from screw eye with a jump ring.
