A Moment in Time

Hello, chipboard fans! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! It is Gloria with you today, and I am sharing another 8" x 8" scrapbook layout. I plan to use these as dividers in a box of monthly layouts...if I ever get them all finished! 

This week I made a sparkly, snowy January page. I used a ton of glitter and embossing enamel on the project (unfortunately, the camera did not pick up the sparkle very well). I added lots of layers of paper and chipboard to create my frosty layout.

Start with some chipboard tags (Decorative Chipboard Tags Large and Small Tag Set) and the mittens from the Winter Shape Set. Paint the edges of the chipboard with white acrylic paint. Set aside to dry.

Pull out other shapes and items in a winter theme. For my project I selected: snowflakes and the "Let it Snow" sentiment from the Winter Shape Set, a clock from Skeleton Clocks, Clockwork Penny Farthing, the circle from Scribbled Frames and Lines Set, the circles and arrow from the Mixed Media Fragments 3 Set, and a phrase from Words and Phrases 1.

Paint all shapes with white acrylic paint.

While the paint is wet, add glitter, embossing powder, and embossing enamel to the shapes as desired.

Assemble the layout by cutting a piece of black cardstock to 8 1/4" x 8 1/4". Attach the Graphic 45 Childrens' Hour 8x8 Calendar Pad January page to the cardstock.

Begin to assemble the layers. Cut banners from Graphic 45 Place in Time January paper  and attach to the top of the page as shown. Cover the large tag with Graphic 45 Children's Hour January Montage paper and sponge the edges with white paint.

Attach the tag to the layout as shown.

Begin to add the other chipboard shapes as desired. Use foam adhesive to pop some of the shapes off the page. (Please note that I prepared more shapes than I actually used on the final layout.)

Cover the mitten shapes with Graphic 45 Place in Time January paper and sponge the edges with white paint.

Add the mittens and a sentiment from Graphic 45 Children's Hour January Collective paper.

The "A Moment in Time" sentiment is covered is glitter!

Add some metal elements for more sparkle! I used silver buttons to keep with the winter theme.

"Remember" - a Layout by Trish Alger

When is the last time you created a layout? If recently, kudos to you. If like me you can't remember, let us consider it. Scrapbooking was my entrée into this crafty medium. For the life of me I cannot figure out why I don't scrap anymore; at all. I don't even scrap digitally these days. There was a discussion recently on Facebook about the death of scrapping supplies vs the overwhelming number of digital photos we all have. I can shoot 300 at one family event. How do I choose just one?

As a guest designer, for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts, this month I challenged myself to a layout.

I remembered that I had a frame break in moving and had set aside the 8"x10" photo for later. Well, later is now here. I loved what this family picture said about us, the time period, and our personalities. Plus, the bright colors were just what I wanted to use.I will walk you through the steps, the supply list is at the end.

I plan to place this on my wall so I chose a 12"x12" paper to start with.  Added some white gesso, then clear gesso before laying in some modeling paste and molding paste and crackle paste through some stencils. I even tried some black gesso for contrast.

Dye sprays in concentrated colors or iridescent tones were sprayed or splattered on the surface as well.

I kept trying materials until I achieved the look I was after. This is no time to be shy. Try it all if you like. That's why gesso is perfect for mixed media--it covers a multitude of attempts.

 

 Inks were dripped and dropped in random order.

 

 

 I wanted to add some matte effect with oil pastels.

 Now to the great chipboard pieces I chose to incorporate. I used white gesso to prepare for other medium uses. Here they are gessoed on the textured surface.

  But wait, that's not all. The pieces need to pop with color.

 

 Really pop. (Notice I cut apart the bottom piece).

 

  The banner (that I modified a bit) and the pointer hand needed the golden touch.

 It's getting there. I decided to use a gloss varnish over the brightly painted chipboard to make it shine and seal the surface.

 

 When I tried the layout, the yellow was just too much for me and I was concerned I was trying to crowd too many pieces onto the layout with my large photo.

 

 So I added back in some white, removed a couple of pieces and rearranged. I liked it a lot better. Let me know what you think.

 

 

 The sticks were great to journal on top of.

On The Move Layout by Debbie

Hello Friends and welcome to Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts!  We are having a long winter and I am longing for some nice weather.  Today I'm sharing a layout of my husband and his friend playing bike polo and Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts has the perfect title piece for this layout.  It's called On the Move and has a bicycle attached to it.  I knew when I saw it that I had the perfect photo for it.

I used one of the fragments from the Mixed Media Fragments 3 collection since I thought it was masculine and would add some interest to the layout. The fragment was cut before it was embossed.

To alter my pieces I embossed them with some thick enamel embossing powder in random areas and then continued to emboss the rest of the chipboard with a fine silver embossing powder.  I thought it gave the pieces a grungy guy kind of feature.
