Steampunk Debutante Smile Card by Pam Bray

Hi it is Pam today on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Blog!!! Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my Steampunk Debutante Smile Card using lots of fun chippies from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts. 

Begin card by adhering pattern paper to top of card base once the edges have been distressed using a distress tool. Add border under strip; adhere to prepared card front. 

 

 

Stamp " Smile" to top of card front with black ink. Adhere Steampunk Doily to top of card front. 

Paint the Tudor Rose Singles, Owl Elements and Leafy Branch with Birds; dry completely. 

Adhere prepared chipboard to top of card front. 

Add metal gears and brads to owl eyes.

Adhere small gears to inside brad and beak.

Add borders to inside of card along with stamp images that have been fussy cut from pattern paper.

Add flowers and bow to card front along with a fussy cut butterfly and berries.

Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland by Barb

If there is anything prettier than a snowy day in the woods, I don't know what it is. With the low Winter sun catching on the snow, the whole world looks like it's dusted with glitter. I will confess, I actually crafted this piece back in August when I was still busy being crabby about the hot weather. A girl can dream, y'know?

For this piece I began with a 12 x 16" canvas panel to which I applied blue and white paint for the background. I used StazOn Cotton White ink and various snowflake stamps on the sky. I set that aside and went to work on my pieces from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.

I started with the bare tree. I gave this a very thin coat of white gesso. I wanted some of the brown to show through so it would look more like a bare, frosty winter tree. Once it dried, I coated it with glue using my Essential Glue pad. I worked quickly, "inking" a section and sprinkling it with glitter before moving on to another section. 

I used Brilliance Pearlescent Poppy on the birds to give them just a tiny bit of shimmer.

Next came the deer, which I coated in Versamark embossing ink, dusted with glittery embossing powder, and then heat set. With those done, I went to work on the fir trees. I coated them with a liberal dose of white gesso - sponging it on so it blobbed up in areas to give the trees some texture. While the gesso was still wet, I sprinkled on white glitter, then set them aside to dry.

Once all my pieces and the background were completely dry, I glued everything in place. Using a palette knife I slathered on more white gesso to make the snow look real and drifted and trampled. I sprinkled on more glitter while those areas were still wet.

I can just about hear the cardinals calling to each other as the deer take their hushed steps through the snow.

Hang on to Hope - Layout by Lynne

Hello fellow crafters! Here in Southwestern Ontario we're deep into fall and heading toward (ugh) winter. When I saw this image, it made me think of how springtime is hope fulfilled after a long cold winter.

The tree branches were perfect for extending the image. I ran them through my Cuttlebug in a wood grain embossing folder then painted them brown to match the photo. The leaves were painted green then dabbed lightly with other colours like the ones in the photo. I brushed the pieces with Glossy Accents to give them a bit of a sheen.

The word piece was painted with acrylic paint then heat-embossed with clear embossing powder. I then mounted it on coordinating patterned paper.

Punchwork along with some stencilling and stamping completed the background then I added a few paper strips to mimic the design on the bottom of the photo.I had a great time creating this cheery project and love the way the branches fit onto the design so perfectly-thanks for stopping by and hang onto hope today and every day!

Gina's Designs Leafy Branches with Birds

Hello friends!  Happy autumn!  Debbie with you today sharing a layout using Gina's Designs Leafy Branches with Birds.  I didn't give these leaves autumn colors because where I live the leaves are mostly still green.  We are having a long summer and everything is still beautiful here.  This layout is a special one because of the photos of my daughter's college graduation.  They mark a milestone and a lot of hard work accomplished.  I took these photos of her outside against a rodeo chute gate and I wanted to add a little softness to the layout.  These Leafy Branches remind me of flourishes and of the beautiful trees that were hanging over the chutes where the photo was taken. 

 To dress up the branches I simply inked them with chalk ink and then added Inka Gold rub to them in two different colors.  I love how it made this layout feel like you were in a beautiful garden somewhere. The pink flowers and soft colors gave this a romantic feel.

Celebrating Autumn by Barb

It's here! It's here!!! I know it won't be official for a couple more days, but in my little kingdom, Autumn is here! And I couldn't be happier. Bring on the cool, crisp days and the blinding array of color washing the hills. It's all I ever need for inspiration.

For this piece I used Gina's Designs Leafy Branches with Birds. To begin, I gave each piece a light coat of gesso. Once dry, I painted everything with various Autumn-y colors of Twinkling H2Os. I love the shimmer they lend to the piece.

I wish I could tell you how I did the background, but I really can't remember. It started as a background for a different project, but I decided I didn't like it so I blobbed color all over it. Then it was too colorful, so I spackled creative medium all over it using an old punchinella strip. Then it looked too weird, so I whitewashed the whole thing with watered down gesso. The wet gesso picked up some of the underlying colors and it gave me the feeling of a cool, foggy morning. Just the thing I needed my pretty, colorful trees to stand against.

My point there is, don't give up on a piece if it isn't what you're going for. Set it aside and haul it out later to inspire some other project.

Dream Of Butterflies by Guest Designer Pam Bray

 I am so excited to share with you that I am the August Guest Designer

for Gina's Designs Lasercuts.

If you love chipboard, all I can say is Gina's Designs is the place to go!

 I decided to take the House Shrine House and create a Dream of Butterflies House using lots of Gina's Designs chipboard and Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe Collection.

 Paint the scallop borders from the Banner Border Strip Lasercuts using DecoArt Inc Media Patina Green Antique Cream, dry. Paint over the top with DecoArt Inc Media Quinacidone Gold, dry... this will give you that antique look.

 Spray pieces with DecoArt Inc White Shimmer Spray, dry.

 While the pieces are drying, prepare the House Shrine Box with Olde Curiosity Shoppe papers.

Fussy cut butterfly frame from two pieces of paper from the Olde Curiosity Shoppe, place on pop dots and place to inside of prepared House Shrine Box.

 Cut prepared Banner Border Strip and place on edge of prepared roof.

 Add prepared Victoria Layered Banner to bottom of House Shrine Box.  

Paint Dream Word from the 10 Words Set with DecoArt Lace Chalky Finish, dry and apply DecoArt Inc Quinacidone Gold over top. Add to front of House Shrine Box. 

Paint one of the Leafy Branch with Birds using DecoArt Inc New Life Chalky Finish, dry. Highlight edges of pieces using Patina Green Antiquing Cream, dry. ***Here you can see how I did the roof with a piece from the Banner Border Strip.

Fussy Cut lots of the butterflies from the Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe Paper Collections, adhere together at the body leaving the wings to bend up.

Glue Moss on the roof and inside of House Shrine Box.

 Add a metal lantern to the front.

House Shrine Box by Barbara Rankin

Hi everyone!  I am so happy to be here today, as this
is my first post with Gina's Designs.  I was thrilled when I was asked to
be their guest designer for June, and I hope I can inspire you with my
creations.  I have to admit though, that with great products, such as
these, it is quite easy to make even me "look good".  

I love birds and wings and feathers, so my first project is
an altered bird house, using Gina's House Shrine Box.  

Assemble box with Beacon's Quick Grip glue.  Coat
entire box with white gesso and let dry.  Then color inside of box with
Spanish Moss, and the outside with Cascade chalk paint.

Trim a piece of print paper from
the Tim Holtz Wallflower paper pad to fit inside the house, distress
edges, ink with Chestnut Roan chalk ink.  Adhere inside box.

 Cut an irregular piece of the Chicken Wire Large,
color with Krylon Silver Leafing Pen.  Adhere at the top of the box
opening with the Quick Grip glue.

Measure and cut Boarders Sticks Lace to fit along roof eaves.  Coat both sides with white
gesso, then paint with ColourArte Indian Copper Radiant Gel.  Cut a
2" x  8" piece of silver duct tape, emboss with a decorative
embossing folder.  Trim length of duct tape to 1-3/4" to fit the
roof.  Paint the silver side with Indian Copper.  Pick up a tiny
amount of the Cascade chalk paint with your finger and dab randomly over
the lace border, as well as the duct tape, to simulate patina on
copper.  Peel off adhesive liner on the duct tape and adhere to the top of
the roof first, then adhere the lace border along the eaves.  Use the two
extra lace pieces to form a decorative element at the center where
the two border strips join. 

 

Coat one of the birds from the Birds on Branches
Assortment with white gesso, let dry.
 Color with Silks Acrylic Glaze in Nutmeg, Pretty Peridot, Silver Bells,
Mango Mamba, Ocean Wave. 

Cut a few branches off of one of the Leafy Branches with Birds and
coat with white gesso.  Paint the leaves with Pretty Peridot and the
branches with Nutmeg Silks.  Adhere both pieces to the side of the house
and part of the chicken wire for support.

I first sketched in some details on my bare bird with a
pencil, then painted it with the Silks Acrylic Glaze in Pretty Peridot,
Silver Bells, Mango Mamba, Ocean Wave.  I drew the eye with a black marker
and the white spot from a white gel pen.  For added depth, I used a
charcoal pencil to shade in the same areas as my sketch.

 Make three eggs from Creative Paperclay and a tiny bird's
nest from green excelsior.  Paint the eggs blue and add tiny dots of brown
to each egg.  Place inside the nest and then place the nest inside
the house. I attached a 1/4" dowel, approximately 1-1/2"
long, to the back of my bird so I could attach him to the back of the house, but
make him appear to be sitting on the nest.

Coat the Hypericum
Berries with white gesso, then paint
with Olive Vine and Rusty Mauve Silks, let dry.  Add dots of 3D Crystal
Lacquer to each berry.  Adhere to front of house.  Here a a few

3 Story House by Mary

Happy Thursday!!  Today I have a "bird house" to show you using the 2 Story House from Gina's Designs. After the house was assembled, I applied a coat of gesso.  My next step was to extend the roof line. Since Gina designed it as a shadow box, the "back" side is made to be flat against a wall.  I wanted to use it as storage and to be able to turn it around to hide the inside. I took a piece of heavy card stock to make the overhang match the other side.

I have used two of our wooden frames on the front of the house, and backed them with black paper for the "bird holes". The nest at the roof peak is inked and the eggs are embossed.  The two pieces of the  lamppost are embossed and there is a piece of inked vellum paper sandwiched between them.



On one side of the house are three birdhouses from the "For the Birds" set.  I embossed one and stenciled the other two.

On the other side I placed one of our leafy branches that I turned into a tree. I painted the trunk and branches,  and covered the leaves with flower soft.

Inside the house, I covered each "room" with different paper and did a faux painting technique in the "attic". The bird on the birdhouse on the roof peak is from the Spring Shape Set.

I plan on using the house to store my bling from Joann's.  You could also store paint bottles on the bottom and middle shelves and your Lindy's sprays will fit on the middle shelf !
