Art Journal Prompt Cards

 Hello everyone,

Today I have some journal prompt cards for you, made from the gel prints I made a few weeks ago. So first we make the backgrounds and then we turn them into the cards.

Introduction and Collage

If you do a lot of art journaling then it can be helpful to have a set of journal prompt cards.

Start by gathering the monoprints from the previous tutorial.  I had nine prints but I will only be using three prints on each page.

I made two bases using 300gsm watercolour paper.  For the first one, I chose three of the backgrounds in complementary colours and torn them up and arranged them on the watercolour paper.  I took a photo at this stage to remind myself of the layout in case any of them moved.

When I was happy with the layout, I pasted them all down using matte gel medium.

Next, I moved on to the second background and repeated the process.

Repeat the same process as above, tearing up the prints and laying them out on the watercolour paper until you are happy with how it looks and then paste them into place.

Once they are dry, use some gold size to cover all the white bits not covered by the collage.  If you don't have gold size, you can use glue that dries tacky.

Adding Gold Leaf and More

If you don't have gold leaf you can use gold acrylic paint.  Add the gold leaf, pressing it down on top of all the parts that are sticky from the gold size/tacky glue.

I use my hands for this and then brush off the excess with a paintbrush.

Use the brush and your fingers to rub the gold leaf down into all the sticky bits and off of the collaged bits.  I felt like my backgrounds needed some black so I took a black stabilo and scribbled on it.

Then I activated it with water and a brush.

I did this to both pieces and left them to dry.  Please note:  stabilo pencils are water activated so you may want to seal them with a spray sealant at this stage or you may want to wait till the end and spray both sides.

Decorating the reverse side

As the reverse side is where the journal prompts will be written, I decorated them too using some chalk paints in complementary colours.

I added the paint and then smoothed it out using a brush and then a brayer.

Then when they were dry - they dry very quickly on their own or you can speed it up with a hairdryer - I added some stencilling in white chalk paint using a sponge.

The stencil I used is A4 size, the same size as the paper.

Here's a look at the pages after stencilling.

Making the Cards

Now to turn these pages into cards. If you are also using A4 paper you will be able to get 10 cards out of each sheet if you cut your cards to be 2.25 x 3.5 inches.  This is narrower than the standard ATC size which is 2.5 x 3.5 inches, but I wanted more cards and less waste.  If you want ATC size, you will only get 8 cards per sheet. If you are using a different paper size, you will have to do some calculations!

I cut them at the smaller size by first cutting them into 5 x 2.25 inch wide strips, and then cutting those into cards that were 3.5 inches long.

So now I have 20 cards ready to go.

And the reverse side looks like this...

I like to round my corners, so if you have a corner rounder, do that now.

To hide the white edges and tie them in with the front of the cards, I dry brushed some gold acrylic paint along the edges.  This is easy to do if you hold all your cards together and using a brush with very little paint on it, carefully brush along the edges.

Then just leave them to dry which should only take a few minutes.

Journal Prompts and how to use the Cards

Using a black waterproof pen, write your prompts on the cards.  Here's a look at the prompts I chose but yours can be anything you like.  There are two colour cards, one offers a choice of black or white and the other has six colour options - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet - or any colours you prefer.  For this one you can either choose your favourite or roll the dice!

To use the cards, shuffle them like a regular deck of cards and then select one or more and follow the prompt/s. The cards can also be hole punched and stored on a ring or you could keep them in a box or a small bowl.  They would also make great gifts for a crafty friend.

Hope you like this project.  Let me know in the comments below and I would love to see your cards if you decide to make a set.

Till next time,

Elle

There Might Be Dragons- A Peek-A-Boo Project

I have several images of dragons in  my upstairs bathroom. A reflection of magical days I spent in Ireland many years ago.  I loved visiting some of the old castles complete with moats wooden draw bridges, high stone walls and hidden passageways. Seeing the Book of Kells, housed at Trinity College in Dublin, with its intricate embellishments and illuminations stunning to behold. Stopping by the Guinness Brewery also in this marvelous city, with it sudsy full bodied refreshment, tasting so different than the pours one gets here in the states.   I've always loved St. Patrick's Day and all things Irish, these are the inspirations for today's artwork
1.  Gather your supplies.
 2.  On the back portion of the GSLC Layered Angela Frame Glue a page of Old Script using Weldbond.
3.  Using Clear Embossing Ink Roller to stamp Art Foamies-Moroccan Tile onto the Old Script. Sprinkle with Weathered Gold Embossing Powder and Cure with a Heating Tool.
4.  Use Clear Embossing Ink Roller to add Etched Platinum, Hammered Metal, German Silver Embossing Powders to the front portion of GSLC Layered Angela Frame. Cure with a Heating Tool.
5.  Add layers of Antique Gold, Phthalo Blue Green, Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold acrylic paints using a dry brush technique.
6.   Attach Portions Of GSLC Layered Angela Frame Together Using Golden Heavy Gel Matte Medium.
7.   Allow to dry fully and flat. Pressing down with a heavy book.
8.  Work on layering the GSLC Dragon Shape. First using a texture stamp and clear embossing ink and Extreme Peacock Embossing Powder. Cure with a Heating Tool.

10.                Add more layers using ColorShift Purple, Neon UltraViolet, HiLite Blue Acrylic Paints and a dry brush.
11.                Add an Additional Layer Using Black StazOn Ink and Same Texture Stamp.
12.                Not having enough contrast between the Dragon and the Painted, Embossed Old Script I opted to Add another Layer of Old Script.
 14. Wanting to add more interest I chose GSLC Round Frame with Dragons Using the Same Techniques I used above.Use Clear Embossing Ink Roller to add Etched Platinum, Hammered Metal, German Silver Embossing Powders to the frame. Cure with a Heating Tool.
15. Use a Scrap of Cardboard to Trace Center of GSLC Round Frame with Dragons.

    16. Attach Vintage Script to Cut Out Cardboard, and attach       to Back of Frame using Weldbond.

17. Add a Green Man Medallion I Made Using a Mold and Paper Clay. Using Acrylic Paints as Above to Make it Blend  with Top Portion.
18. Cut a One Inch Portion of Copper Chain to Attach the Two Frames Together.
         19. Punch Holes Into Selected Locations.
 20. Use Jump-rings to Attach Copper Chain to Frames.

21. Add a Copper Grommet to Top Portion of GSLC Layer Frame Angela.

Some Final Thoughts.

Mini Movie Prop Display Case

Happy Saturday, everyone! I have a silly project to share today. I love using the GSL Bookcase 1 to 12 to display things and have been on a bit of a Holy Grail quest lately with some of my projects. I got to thinking about how fun some of the props they used in the movie are and wanted to make a few in miniature and this little display came to life.

The bookcase is very simple to assemble with tacky glue. I used rubber bands to hold everything in place while the glue dried.

A few coats of brown acrylic paint came next. So quick to finish and now it needs some props.

I started with shields, which are made from GSL House Jewelry Piece bases which were painted white. Sir Galahad's shield got one of the GSL Gothic Cross Miniatures painted red and King Arthur's sun symbol was hand drawn.

I made a few research books for the shelves from GSL Miniature Book Blanks (coming soon). These make the perfect sized book for a miniature project and are so simple to use. I painted the edges white to represent book pages.

The only thing needed to finish it off is a printed cover.

I also included a reference book on sparrows. The holy hand grenade is a large pearl bead studded with crystals and topped with toothpick ends painted gold.

This shelf includes polymer clay coconut shells coated in jute threads for Patsy to use to make horse hoof sounds for Arthur's imaginary horse. I also included a can of Spam made from a dollhouse brick and a miniature shrubbery.

The shields are on the second shelf, along with a resin bunny representing the rabbit of Caerbannog, a polymer clay witch nose and a dagger from a Clue game.

The bottom shelf contains prop barnyard animals for the french to catapult over the castle wall.

The final touch is a sign made from a GSL Stackable Label. This was a fun project that opens up many possibilities for many more movie prop displays!

 Thanks for stopping by!

The best chipboard for your covers

 Hi everyone!
Myry again and today I gonna show you how frames can be the best for your covers!
This is the first idea I've to take advantage of the inside of a frame.
I'm going to do an eco style cover so I'll use moss and dark colors. And it's so simple: first paint the cover with the dark color, (if you want to give it volume with a stencil and texture paste, now is the time!). Then paint everything with the lightest color and stick the moss inside the frame. Put weight on it so that it sticks well and voila!
Super easy, fast and you need a few supplies!
We've a wide range of frames, dare to try one!
