Vintage Fashion Accordion Book

Hi everyone! Barbara here today to show you a fast and easy way to turn these engraved book covers from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts into a fabulous little mini album. While I have a variety of ideas for making this, I have chosen the simplest way to share with you, which is to make an accordion book. I have chosen Graphic 45's A Ladies' Diary paper collection, but you can use whatever papers you like or have on hand.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCORDION BOOK (see video for full tutorial)

The book covers measure 2-7/8" x 4-1/2".

Cut two pieces of cream paper to 5-7/8" x 12".

Score horizontally along 12" bottom edge at 1-1/2". This will form pockets to hold tags and ephemera.

Score vertically at 2-3/4, 5-1/2", 8-1/4", and 11".

Adhere the two lengths of paper together along the 1" flap to make one long piece of paper. Fold bottom edge up to form pockets, and accordion fold the length of paper at each scored line. Cut remaining 1" flap off.

Adhere the front and back pages to the inside book covers. Decorate pages as desired.

Vintage Cabana Row House

Hi everyone! Today, I want to share a fun little Summer project using these Cabana Row Houses from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts. Not only would these cuties make great mixed media projects or table decorations and favors, but they would also make wonderful gift boxes since the bottom folds up, but does not have to be glued in place. Hmmmm ... think of the possibilities. I'm sure you can come up with even more ideas.

When you get the set, look for the tiny alphabet letters (A through E) on each piece to match up the house with its coordinating roof piece. They are so simple to put together, just fold the house up and attach the roof.

Cut one paper strip 2-3/8" x 8-1/2" and one 2-1/8" x 2-1/8" square. Cut two triangles for the eaves. I used the box itself to measure and trace the eaves onto back of paper.

Run paper through Xyron sticker maker and edge paper strips with Evergreen Bough distress ink and foam blending tool.

Adhere paper pieces to bottom section of house.

Place red liner tape along roof and side tabs, as shown.

Adhere a half round window on each side of house under eaves. Set aside.

Cut a piece of print paper cut to 2-3/4" x 4-3/4". Run strip through Xyron sticker maker and edge paper with Vintage Photo distress ink.

Adhere paper to roof top.

Spread a thin layer of light molding paste through stencil, let dry.

Lightly add Vintage Photo distress ink to paste with blending tool.

Now back to the house. Remove red liner from taped sides. Fold side tab in and attach to side of house.

Fold tabs in and close up bottom of house. You can also tape this in place if you do not plan on using the house as a gift box.

Fold roof tabs in and attach roof. Glue two small square windows from the Seaside Doors & Windows set to the sides of the house, as shown.

Cut bottom portion of smallest Vintage Ladies Silhouette.

Glue bottom portion that was cut off back onto silhouette, but higher up. This will shorten the lady and make her size more appropriate for the size of the house.

Use a spatula to apply a thick coat of Heidi Swapp Hot Pink Metallic Texture Paste to vintage lady, disguising chipboard join and swiping lines in the paste to resemble folds of fabric in her dress. Set aside to dry.

Paint both sides of the vintage bicycle with Vivid True Silver. Let dry, then add Vintage Photo distress ink, which will give it a coppery look. Don't cover all of the silver, though.

Spread light molding paste over hot air balloon and draw lines through paste, as shown. Set aside to dry.

Paint balloon with Vivid Ultra Metallics, first with Lemongrass, then African Jade, then Pink Azalea, and lastly with Teal Zircon. Let dry, then lighten the color with African Jade.

Cut a 5" piece of 20 gauge copper wire and adhere to back of balloon. I used a wet glue and a piece of tape. Let glue dry before handling.

Turn balloon over and repeat process for opposite side, i.e., add light molding paste, draw lines through it, and color with the Vivid Ultra Metallics. This will cover where you have added the coper wire on the back.

Make a little twist in the copper wire, as shown.

Use a paper piercer or awl to make a tiny hole in the roof top and insert wire through it. Add clear drying glue to hold in place.

Adhere vintage lady to left side of house.

Decorate house as you like. I have added some flowers just below the half round window, and adhered the vintage lady to the left, and the vintage bicycle was added to the right with a foam dot to make it look like it was propped up against the house.

Standing Flip Book by Rhonda

As a mixed media artist, I naturally have many old photos, millinery flowers, buttons, and other treasures to use in my art. I hoard them and then a project comes along in which I just have to use some of my treasures. This was one of them.

I have so many wonderful old photographs, as I'm sure many of you do as well. But I've never really displayed them, except for propping up the occasional favorite. While doing Guest Design Team work for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts, I knew from the get go that I wanted to use the Standing Flip Book that I received. Then I put two and two together and came up with a project that was so relaxed and great fun to create.

I bet you can already see where I'm going with this one. I find such pleasure in mixing up vintage lace and treasures to create art. I have several altered books I have made on my own and in swaps that use these same items. Why not a Standing Flip Book to display? Exactly! Too good of an idea to pass up. So I got busy. The stand comes with six pages laser cut from heavy duty graphics board.

First I ran my pages through my Xyron adhesive runner. I love this baby when it comes to applying adhesive to larger surfaces. I chose several papers that blended nicely together including this Juliet Verona 12x12 sheet, this fabulous Tan Faux Leather Paper, Lotus Scrapbook Paper and more.

A quick trim and file, (yes that is an emery board) and I'm off to the next side.

OH OH OH, DON'T forget to re-punch your holes before covering the other side.

Done covering and filing, next a bit of Antique Linen Distress Paint so that my edges blend in with the front and back of the page.

Now it's time to play with my photos, which I want and where, as well as larger and smaller pieces of vintage lace. I love to layer it all and just add to the page as much as I like.

For this photo, I decided to make a frame using vintage lace, folded over and glued into place. Clothes pins are a MUST to give you extra fingers while glue dries. Just be sure to remove them before the glue dries all the way, other wise they too will be glued into place.

Above is the back and below is the front, just so you can see how the finished process looks during dry time.

For this page I used a large piece of vintage lace that I was able to wrap all the way around the page, meeting the edges in the center of the back of the page.

I added another piece of lace down the center to cover the seam.

After adding my photo, of course I once again used my clothes pins to hold it all in place for a bit.

I love the design of this mirror (Mirror 1). It reminds me of the frames you would find on old pictures. So I decided to alter it so I could frame one of my favorite old pics.

After cutting the "stand" off, I filed the cut edges smooth. Of course I saved the left over parts to use on another project. The detail is just too perfect.

The frame looks gilded with the use of Distress Paints in Tarnished Brass.

The main thing is to just have fun with it, no stress, no time line, just use the things you love to make it your own. I made a huge mess in my studio with lace and buttons everywhere, but each page was given a life and I love the end result.

I wanted the actual flip book to be somewhat manly, but in those natural tea stain colors I adore. I used several layers of this printed tissue and lots of watered down glue. While wet, the tissue easily peels apart so "trimming" was easy. After I put all of my layers on, I did a final, thicker coat of glue to "seal" the piece.
