Halloween Market Stall

Happy Saturday, everyone! As autumn approaches, I get into the mood for spooky crafting. I absolutely adore the GSL 1:12 Scale Market Stall (which is available over at Alpha Stamps) and was inspired to turn it into a Halloween market and fill it with all sorts of eerie sweets and treats.

Here are the main pieces of the market stall all laid out.

I painted the supports, shelves and floor with black acrylic paint then added a great insect image from K&Company Haunted that I cut into sections before gluing in place.

Here's the market's base, it has slots to hold the stall in place. Since the stall has an attached floor, I was able to cut BoBunny Double Dot Vintage paper to fit around the slots where the stall would be placed.

The remaining pieces assemble to be the shop counter. It was papered in BoBunny's Wonderfully Wicked collection and I used an embossed reptile print from The Paper Studio for the countertop.

All of the treats were super fun to make. These lollipops are circles of polymer clay with flat tooth picks inserted. Those eventually got trimmed to length. They were glazed with Glossy Accents after baking.

I've seen full sized glitter pumpkins for sale as Halloween decorations and thought why not make some mini ones? These are putka pods that are sometimes sold as vase filler. They were first painted then a layer of glue went on before rolling them around in fine glitter.

The jars of 'candy' are filled with micro beads and polymer clay cane slices.

I made the most adorable cookie house from a GSL 1 to 12 Gingerbread House and some shingles cut from a GSL Tiny Shingles Sampler.

Once assembled, I added some ghosts I made from polymer clay and a bat and glow in the dark star. I love how this came out so much I am dying to make a bunch more!

Jack o'lantern cookies were made from polymer clay then frosted with liquid polymer clay tinted with chalk pastels. Treat bags were made from a full sized cellophane treat bag that was cut to size then assembled using double sided tape.

Here are some close ups. The top shelf has retro costumes I made from a Retro Halloween Treat Bags Collage Sheet and some printed mask images. Those tiny happy meal buckets are made simply from cardstock that I decorated and rolled.

Below the candy jar shelf you'll find some cookie sculptures and candy apples I made from polymer clay.

The spooky house on the counter was joined by lollipops, cookies and polymer clay caramel apples.

Arch Top House Silhouette Diptych

A bit spring, a little forest. Simple and pretty and easy on the eye. A wee diptych just for you.....

 This is a pretty straight forward project that most of that tutorial covers. The little extra thing here was I used the Tiny Shingles Sampler Set including the scrap in between bits to embellish the piece.
I gave them a coat of gesso and then painted them green.

I also used a paint marker to do the dot details on both sides of the piece.

And a fun thing I discovered. The scrap bit between the pointed shingles bends really easily so you can arch it and even use it for tiny little bunting on another project, so don't throw it away!
Another tip...I use wax paper to paint my bits and pieces on. They peel off without sticking.

Traveling Day 2

I love making little houses. I especially love indulging my Baba Yaga obsession with houses that have feet. Recently I have been taking an online workshop with Michael deMeng on building Baba Yaga Birdhouses, so once again another great excuse to put feet on houses!
This is a 'Moving Day" house, the second in a little series I am slowly working on.
You can see the first one if you click HERE and some of the tips on how I put the house together  (which is very similar) and built the base.

Here is where it began......

 This comes in a set of two, but I only used one this time around.

 The skeleton legs came from a Halloween skellie garland I got from a craft store.

I glued the legs on using Aleene's Turbo Tacky glue and then did the same for the arms.
Note: This is AFTER I glued down all the papers!
When the glue was al dry, I glued the whole shebang sown on the base, which at this point is also covered top and sides in either paper or paint.
I drilled a hole through the center on the roof ridge for a wire.

I glued an eye on a stamped brass flower and using paint, I painted an eye lid on it.
It just looked too naked.
I glued the eye to the wire. I glued a row of shingles at the top of the roof on both sides, glued in the eyeball stick and aged it up with a little Quinacridone gold paint.

I cut out some mushrooms from some charming Graphic 45 paper called Fairy Dust and put them in wee pots.
Added a bit of moss and a few details and away we go. Moving our mushrooms to a shadier place perhaps?

What the Finches Said

I’ve always been a big birdwatcher and springtime brings about a flutter of activity. There are nests to build and yummy morsels to discover. The Purple Finches and Goldfinches begin to get their more robust plumage. This is the inspiration for this instillation.  If Finches could speak I think they would remind us that winters always pass, time to get busy is upon us, follow the seasons, listen to the spring winds, beauty is sometimes hidden, and don’t be afraid to sing your sweetest most haunting songs.

1.  Paint GSLC For the Birds Birdhouses and eggs with White Gesso.

2.  While still wet sprinkle with Fusion Slime and Rusty Car stains.

3.  Layer and Spray with Aqua Net until you have an interesting effect.

4.  Allow to dry fully before taking apart GSLC For the Bird birdhouses and eggs.

5.  Find an old wooden cigar box to tear apart and use the bottom to create your panel.

6.  Coat Wooden Cigar box with matte Medium and add Bird Tissue paper randomly.

7.   Use Acrylic Paint in Shades of Brown and Yellow to paint a GSLC Bird Nest.

8.  Glue GSLC Bird Nest Together Layering with four eggs.

9.  Dab Metallic Paint in Shades of Gold and Copper using a paintbrush sprinkling with Chili Powder and Ground Nutmeg to add further textures on to GSLC Wrought Iron Corners.

10.                Add GSLC Tiny Shingles to the top of the GSLC Birdhouses you chose.

11.                Layer your Art Panel together using Weldbond.

12.                Weight down with a bag of kitty litter or other weighted item to squish all the layers together.

Some Final Thoughts.
