Here Comes The Circus

Happy Saturday, everyone! I have another circus-related project to share with you today, a giraffe wagon from the parade. The Great Circus Parade ran from 1963 to 2009 and recreated how people in the late 19^th and early 20th century gathered along stops on a circus's route to see whether it was worth attending. This little guy's wagon is made from a GSL Bagatelle Box 3 by 3 Inch, here's how I pulled it together. 

I started by making a paper template of the top of the box where the giraffe's head would need to poke through. It took a few tries until I was completely satisfied with the location of the hole I was going to cut.

Once I was happy with the placement, I used the template to mark the opening on the chipboard and used an x-Acto knife and straight edge to cut the hole.

At this point, I assembled the floor and walls of the box wagon, painted the exterior red and added a cheerful blue check from Graphic 45's Mother Goose collection to the back wall. I used a piece of adhesive cork paper to mimic sawdust for the floor.

The roof of the wagon got glued in place and a few gold dresden and flatback embellishments were added. The wagon's bars are lengths of dowel sticks painted yellow and glued in place. The wheels are GSL Wheels 1.5 Inch Straight painted black and decorated with flatback star studs.

Maisy the Cow

Hello crafty friends!  It's Susan on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog, inviting you to join me down on the farm!

I've had this little rubber cow magnet for at least 25 years.  At some point it went from refrigerator to supply box, and now she's made her way back to the farm... or the cow pen.

I used the 3 x 3 Bagatelle Box.  I love these boxes since they are small but deep enough (for a milk bottle!).

I cut my farm-themed papers to size, then glued the box together.  Once it was dry I added the papers with Mod Podge.  Quick and easy!

And here she is, happy to be out of the supply box and back on the farm.

A Little Black Lantern

Happy New Year's Eve!! Do you ever get that itch for something new in your home decor? I knew that I wanted something that I could keep out year round on top of my computer armoire. I was really inspired by Betsy's winter lantern,  and this I came up with.

I started by putting the frame together except I left the lid off. I also did not use the inside divider. After a coat of black gesso was dry, I cut apart the pieces of the Wrought Iron Set (contact store if you need to have this in your grasp!) and attached them to only three of the sides. Once the glue dried. I painted the entire thing in black gloss paint. After that, I attached velum paper to the sides that had the wrought iron pieces on it. I left the back open so I could easily reach in to turn the light on.

The top of the lantern is a 3x3 bagatelle box. I attached some of the pieces of the wrought iron to give it a little bit of a lift. The reason I wanted it raised up a bit was so I could place a second battery-operated tea light under it. I also painted this part with the black gloss paint.

Pearl beads were attached to the bottom of the lantern.

Little Box of Believe

Good morning all you crafters out there! I wanted to try something and had a blast! So grab your cup and lets have a blast. 

With Christmas coming up I decided to play around and make a little Christmas spirit for my desk.

First I started with some casting resin on my embossing folders.

Then I got my sheets ready to cut up to add to my box. You want to do this before they harden completely. 

The sheet was thin enough to use my scissors with. 

Then I glued them on.  You can use any type of glue I am sure however, I used some soft matte gel medium to adhere the resin to my box. 

Here is the finished project. 

I used a Mini Bookplate to add the sentiment "Believe". 

I finished it off with some layers of paints and Petaloo flowers. 

Here you can really see the texture.
