There's A Cure For What Ails You

Hello crafty friends!  It's Susan here on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog.  I'm on an altered Altoids tin kick and I have a tongue-in-cheek one to share with you today.

As a frame for the tin, I used the Altoids Fairy Tale Inserts.  This is a set of three, each with a two-part decorative label holder.  Here are the other two in the set:

For a textured surface, I tapped an embossing ink pad on the frame then sprinkled embossing powder all over it (over a separate piece of paper so I could pour the excess back into the jar).

The heat gun worked it's magic and the embossing powder melted into a wonderful black and white textured surface.

I dabbed black paint onto the label frame surface, then used a brown brush pen to even out the color on the label's edges.

Attach the insert with a line of glue around the tin.

I used both parts of the label, and helped the glue set up with clothes pins.  Since the embossed surface is textured, I glued the label to the tin using strong E-6000.

She has butterflies in her stomach

Jess here today.

I recently got this cool Art Doll Nicho(coming to the store soon) from GSL and immediately thought I needed to put butterflies in it.


The doll comes in three pieces. I started by cutting a dress out of a bright bold patterned paper and glued it to the main body piece. Then I was stumped.  I realized I don't do bright often.  So I tore that dress off and went with a more neutral paper (read grungy).  Once I did that she really started to come together.  The paper was splattered with Black Soot Distress Paint.  The edges were inked up using Distress Ink in Pumice Stone.  The gold is Dina Wakley Gilt(this is quickly becoming my go to gold color).

 The large butterflies on her dress are from the Tim Holtz French Flight stamp and die set.   I cut them using mop up paper I had on my desk.  The tiny key centers are from Ideaology.

  The large wings were die cut using the Fanciful Flight Die using the same mop up paper I used to cut the small butterflies.

Her arms are from the Santos Doll.  They are painted with Dina Wakley Gilt.  Then stamped using the Blank Page Muse Correspondence Script stamp in Black Soot Archival ink.   I used craft thread to make the joints and attached them to the body using a strong glue.

The second piece of the doll is the head.  It's really just a circle that you can use to support the head of your choice.  I had this art doll sheet from Art Chix Studios and used one of them.  I gave her a halo using the Medallion Impresslit.  Some teeny butterflies finish her halo.  I wanted to give her a little necklace since the doll head has a long neck.  I used some chain from the Tim Holtz Assemblage line to make her necklace and the pearl dangle. The butterfly is a another one from the French Flight set.

  The last piece is the little belly box that needs to be folded up.  The box is tiny.  Use a good strong glue to keep it together.  I painted the inside using Peeled Paint Distress Paint and added a flowery paper to the back.  The butterflies were cut using the Tim Holtz Butterfly Frenzy die.  I spritzed several colors of Distress Oxide ink on my gel press and used a piece of vintage book paper to pull my print.  Once the paper was dry I ran it through the Vagabond.  The butterflies were glued down to fill the cavity.  There are a couple teeny butterfly brads in her belly too.

The legs are vintage ceramic doll legs.  I poked holes into the belly box and ran craft thread though to keep them on the box.  They are tied on so they can dangle and move.

Gather Beauty Greeting Card

Hello there friends and GSL fans! Ginny here to share a very shabby chic greeting card I've created with some fabby chippies!

I'm loving the 4 x 9 inch cars lately.  It really gets me out of my card rut.

Even though this card is narrower than my usual there's still plenty of room for a frame. This one looks a bit like a wreath.

It only makes sense to layer on a few altered chipboard leaves and some pretty flowers.

A few finishing touches and this card is complete.

Here's that gorgeous Scribble Frame Oval Ivy. I wiped it down to prepare it for finishing.

A few leaves from the Rose Leaves set.

The frame has a base coat of white acrylic paint.

Next I added embossing powder and heat set it for a sparkly finish.

The leaves have a few layers of green paint in various tones for a mottled effect then outlined in Stickles.

Sweet Little Lambs

Happy Saturday, everyone! Today I am sharing a cute little project featuring a few of the photogenic  lambs born on our farm this year. I've turned them into little fairies and displayed them on GSL Simple House Ornament Shapes, which are available over at Alpha Stamps.  These shapes are so versatile to use and come as a set of 2 heavy chipboard house shapes with a hole at the top for hanging.

I started by selecting the background papers I wanted to use for both the front and the back. Using the house as a template, I traced around it and cut the papers to size. 

The papers I used for the front were from G45's Artisan Style and Imaginisce's Twitterpated collections and backs are from G45's An ABC Primer collection. Using tacky glue, the papers were adhered to the chipboard.

 

After the glue dried, I used a sharp tool to open the hole at the top of the house.

The same thing was done from the back of the house. 

I used a sanding block to smooth out the edges and inked them with a galaxy gold ink pad.

For the next step, I printed out a few of our lamb photos onto chipboard, cut some butterflies from Graphic 45's Olde Curiosity Shoppe paper and gathered together a few fancy hole punches and sparkly papers from DCWV's Glitzy Glitter stack.

I cut the lambs out and added butterfly wings and a sparkly flower crown to each.

Using fancy punches, I made a few shapes to play with for added interest.

Along with a few paper scraps and some flat back pearls, I assembled my bits and pieces for the background and then set the lambs on top.

The hangers were fashioned from a four inch section of wire that easily bends into shape.

Tag You're It Mini Albums

Hello and happy Friday!! It's Jennalee here today. I am on a bit of a book kick lately. They are the perfect project for using up scraps. I have seen some amazing matchbook albums on Instagram and was inspired by the size of them. So I decided to go small again. The cover of my books are made from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts - Small Tag Set and Large Tags.  The chipboard tags provide a sturdy cover yet can still be stitched thru!!

The Small Tags Set come with 10 in the pack and measure 3.25 inches tall by 1.6 inches wide. 

The Large Tags come with 3 in the pack and are number 8 size. 

Fold the small tags at 1/2 inch from the bottom and then at 2.25 inches. 

I used my score board and bone folder to score my tags before folding. I found that lightly spraying the Small Tags helped create a cleaner fold. 

Fold the Large Tag at 3/4 inch from the bottom and then again at 3 5/8 inches. 

The larger tags are not as thick as the smaller ones and don't need to be sprayed. 

I used a glue stick to adhere scraps to both the front and back of both tags. I used a sanding block to remove any overhanging edges. 

A stitched on button and some vintage cotton thread make the perfect closure for the Small Tag book. 

I built up my layers and then stitched them together on with the sewing machine. I then set my stitches to a longer length and then stitched them into the tag cover. 

And added messy stitching to the top flap. 

The large tag book was assembled the same as the small one. Because there were more pieces of ephemera in the larger book stitching on my machine was a bit tricky. So keep that in mind and take it slow. 

Those layers make my heart flutter!! 

I love the wings peeking out!! 

These little books are the perfect way to spend an afternoon and would be perfect for mail art swaps.
