Tell Tale Heart

It's Jess back with some more Halloween fun for you.  Today I bring you a little bit of Poe.

 Here's how you can make your own.

Take a brown paper sack and crumple it up.  I crumpled and uncrumpled mine several times to get the wrinkles the way I liked them.  I glued the bag to the Faux Book Box using Distress Collage Medium.  Once the collage medium was dry I used Distress Stains to color the paper. I kept adding and wiping away the stain until I was happy with the color.

I added Distress Crayon in Ground Espresso to the book to highlight the wrinkles.

Next I embossed a couple Stackable Labels and glued them to the cover of the book. 

Printers Ornament Corners were added to the spine. 

I added a little sticker to the side. 

The inside of the box is covered with a paper that looks like weathered wood and the edges are embossed.  

A faux pocket watch has a picture of Poe inside.  I colored the edge with alcohol inks.  Silk sari ribbon was dyed using Distress Stains and Alcohol Inks.  

The heart was painted a bright red mixed with some umber.  Once the paint was dry I added a layer of crackle medium.  When the medium started to dry I heated  it up.  This caused lots of bubbling.  I added another layer of paint and the dripped alcohol ink on it too. 

I added the heart to the box using a bit of wire.  The heart hangs in there freely so it bumps against the box.  Very appropriate for the Tell Tale Heart.

Hi all, and welcome to a new project using the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts faux book box. I decided to turn this on its side and add some little metal pieces as legs to make a pretty little treasure box. 

Here's what it will look like when it comes to you. You will see two pieces without tabs. These will be the hinged pieces. You'll need some tape for those. 

The first step was to assemble the box as shown. I used some paper tape to attach the hinged pieces, so that the box could open and close easily. Next, I gave the whole box, inside and out two coats of white gesso. 

I cut panels of patterned paper to fit each of the faces of the box that would be seen, including the 

inside faces and inner base.

I used a combination of frames and labels to create a feature piece for the top of my box. The bottom layer was painted with gesso, then I applied Metallic Melts embossing powders in varying colors. The next layer was painted white, then coated in clear embossing powder. The top layer was coated in super fine glitter. I layered these three pieces with a triple layer of foam dots on the top piece. I glued a metal button onto that. This created a functional handle to lift the lid of my box.

From there, I framed the main part of the handle base with paper flowers, leaves and some ribbon. I created a similar but smaller cluster on the opposite side, creating a visual triangle with the two clusters and the handle. 

I kept the base plain with a simple ribbon wrap. 

I think these metal things are actually book corners but they worked perfectly for this. I used hot glue to adhere these to ensure they would be strong.

Super Simple Earring Organizer

This project is sooo easy AND you'll be able to make three with as little as just one product! Are you ready?

I've simply taken Gypsy Soul's Decorative Screen, applied a coat of paint, added a length of ribbon, and created an organizer for my dangly earrings. This is a serious improvement over plonking them in my jewelry box and creating a tangled mess. I just used the cut areas to hang my sparkly fake jewels from.

The Decorative Screen comes with three panels, and my little organizer only uses one, so you can use the other two parts for gifts, to sell, or if you have a bazillion pairs of earrings, to keep all to yourself. I've created three in three different styles.

You could put all the panels together to create a complete screen to sit on your dresser but I really like the hanging ribbon that lets me cart my jeweled bits all over the place depending on where I'm getting myself gussied up.

The only extra bit of advice I'll give is that it's probably best to be a little restrained in your embellishing if you want this to be a functional item.
