An American Original-A Peek-a-Boo Project

Snow White is the original Disney Princess, I've always loved watching the video and found delight in the magical world that Walt Disney created. The woodland creatures and the famous poison apple are the inspiration for this artwork

1.  Collect Materials

2.  Use Painter Tape to Hold Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts ATC Sized Faux Book Box together.

3.  Use Book Tape or Medical Cloth Tape on Inside Box, Paint Outside With White Gesso. This Will Become the "Pages" of "Book".

4.  Paint Inside of with Copper Metallic Paint

5.  Use Book Tape or Medical Cloth Tape on Spine.

6.  Add Blue Acrylic Paint to Cosmic Shimmer Lave Paste, Spread on Inside of "Book Cover", Cure with Heat Tool.

             

7.  Add Assortment of Brown Acrylic Paint to Cosmic Shimmer Lave Paste, Spread on Outside of "Book Cover", Cure with Heat Tool.

                 

8.  Seal Everything With Matte Gel Medium.

9.   Use Decorative Napkins to Add Layers of Front of "Book Cover".

10.                Assemble Book Box, Gluing with Weldbond.

11.                Select Collected Embellishments, I chose a Resin Poison Apple, A Wooden Panel Assemblage, A Polymer Clay Motif, Bits of Branches, and A Tiny Art Card.

12.                Use Heavy Matte Gel to Adhere Your Chosen Treasures.

13.                Add Bits of Mossy Texture Using Felting Materials.

Some Final Thoughts.

One of the main lessons of Snow White teaches is the danger of vanity. The Evil Queen Wants Snow White dead because she cannot image there is someone more beautiful than her. It is this vanity in the end that destroys her. The concept of real beauty is often found in lowly places and humble creatures.

Dungeons & Dragons Faux Book Box

Dungeons & Dragons Faux Book Box

Jess here today with a geeky installment for GSLC. I've created something specifically for use in roleplaying games (Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Savage World, etc.). I'm using the Faux Book Box from GSLC.

As this book box will be opened and closed frequently, I used black duct tape for the hinge on the box. Black is easier to hide than other colours would be.

On the inner side, I cut it in half and tucked it down here to hold better.

I printed off a symbol I wanted to use on the front of the box - in this case I've used the dragon ampersand symbol from Dungeons & Dragons. I thought it was fitting.

I took my small glue gun and filled in all the areas with hot glue - this was time intensive. Don't expect it to look as flat and "pretty" as it would if you were using clay or something akin to it. The hot glue dries really quickly, and you can only go so fast as you're filling in. What I ended up doing was adding texture on top of the base glue, to purposefully give it a more "worn" look.

I tore away the paper underneath, using water when needed (it won't affect the glue, just the paper). 

Then I covered the hot glue symbol in a layer of gesso and let it dry before painting it with two coats of red paint.

Then I made a mixture of white glue and water (about 1:1 ratio) to start on the textures for the book box.

Using some old Halloween tissue paper, I crumbled it up and then pressed my glue mixture underneath and on top of it to make sure it's held down well.

I also cut 4 triangles out of a cereal box to put in the four corners of the top of the box. 

I applied the tissue over every part of the outside of the box.

For anything sticking out over the sides, I used a simple nail file from the dollar store to sand down the paper on the edges, making it neat and tidy. I painted the entire box black and then once that was dry, finished it of with green and red paint.

I added some texture paste to make this part look more like pages and then drew rough lines with the end of my paint brush in the paste to imitate the pages.

I put some cardstock (scrapbooking paper) inside to make it pretty.

Once finished, there's enough room for my book, pen and dice bag. You can also roll your dice right in the box itself to keep them contained.

Hi Everyone,
It's Jess back with some more Halloween fun for you.  Today I bring you a little bit of Poe.

 Here's how you can make your own.

Take a brown paper sack and crumple it up.  I crumpled and uncrumpled mine several times to get the wrinkles the way I liked them.  I glued the bag to the Faux Book Box using Distress Collage Medium.  Once the collage medium was dry I used Distress Stains to color the paper. I kept adding and wiping away the stain until I was happy with the color.

I added Distress Crayon in Ground Espresso to the book to highlight the wrinkles.

Next I embossed a couple Stackable Labels and glued them to the cover of the book. 

Printers Ornament Corners were added to the spine. 

I added a little sticker to the side. 

The inside of the box is covered with a paper that looks like weathered wood and the edges are embossed.  

A faux pocket watch has a picture of Poe inside.  I colored the edge with alcohol inks.  Silk sari ribbon was dyed using Distress Stains and Alcohol Inks.  

The heart was painted a bright red mixed with some umber.  Once the paint was dry I added a layer of crackle medium.  When the medium started to dry I heated  it up.  This caused lots of bubbling.  I added another layer of paint and the dripped alcohol ink on it too. 

I added the heart to the box using a bit of wire.  The heart hangs in there freely so it bumps against the box.  Very appropriate for the Tell Tale Heart.
