Colorful Cameos-A Peek-a-Boo-Project

Cameos are traditionally carved from carnelian or sardonyx shells or from mother of pearl and are usually white to ivory in color with a darker contrasting background. I wanted to give them a makeover and this is the inspiration of this installment.
1.  Organize the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts-Fashion Cameos Set into sets of your choosing.

 

2.  Use Metallic Embossing Powders of Gold, Hammered, Pewter, Burnt Copper Leaves and Oil Rubbed Bronze to coat and seal the bottom portion of the GSLC Fashion Cameos-This will become the frame portion.

3.  Once dry use a dry brush technique to add bits of copper acrylic paint to these frame portions.

4.   Use Ice Resin Iced Enamels of Chartreuse, Turquois, Carnelian, and Raspberry to coat and seal the center portion of the GSLC Fashion Cameos-this will become the background for your fashion figurine.

5.   Use Black Sparkle and Super Nova Embossing Powders to coat and seal the GSLC Fashion Figurines.

6.   Now it is just a matter of assembling your GSLC Fashion Cameos layering each and gluing together using Weldbond.

7.  Carefully weigh down each GSLC Fashion Cameo with a bag of kitty litter or other weighted object to keep them pressed together until they are dried fully.

Super Simple Earring Organizer

This project is sooo easy AND you'll be able to make three with as little as just one product! Are you ready?

I've simply taken Gypsy Soul's Decorative Screen, applied a coat of paint, added a length of ribbon, and created an organizer for my dangly earrings. This is a serious improvement over plonking them in my jewelry box and creating a tangled mess. I just used the cut areas to hang my sparkly fake jewels from.

The Decorative Screen comes with three panels, and my little organizer only uses one, so you can use the other two parts for gifts, to sell, or if you have a bazillion pairs of earrings, to keep all to yourself. I've created three in three different styles.

You could put all the panels together to create a complete screen to sit on your dresser but I really like the hanging ribbon that lets me cart my jeweled bits all over the place depending on where I'm getting myself gussied up.

I'm certain you don't need any guidance for this project, but HERE is a video for creating the above Steampunkish version of this project.

The only extra bit of advice I'll give is that it's probably best to be a little restrained in your embellishing if you want this to be a functional item.

The bare necessities you'll need for this project:

Acrylic paint
Length of ribbon

If you want to get fancy add decorative elements such as Flourishes, or any shapes that suit your fancy. Additional elements I've used are:

You can't cage your heart

Hi Everyone,
I love to create for Valentine's day.  I have a fun necklace for you today and it was really easy to make.

Start with your birdcage chipboard.  I used the 3 inch version for this project, but it is available in two additional sizes.
I embossed both sides of the top piece.

The heart is a die cut piece of paper that I wet and crumpled into a ball.  I flattened it, dried it with my heat tool, and then sanded it to highlight the wrinkles.

The wings are painted with a couple light coats of acrylic paint and then grunged up with a brown ink and some bronze paint.


The back of the birdcage that the heart will be on is embossed in a slightly different color than the front and it doesn't have full coverage. I wanted some of the chipboard to peep through. The back of the piece is embossed in the same color as the top piece of the cage.

The wings are attached to the heart using foam tape.  I used foam tape and a strong adhesive to attach the heart to the back of the cage.

A large jump ring holds the two pieces of the cage together.  The cage pieces are not attached in any other way.  I want the cage to swing open when I wear this piece.

Jewelry Pieces by Linsey!

Hello! I'm Linsey and I'm absolutely thrilled to be the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts guest designer for July! Each Wednesday this month I'll have the pleasure of sharing a lovingly made project with you and today, these DIY necklaces are up. I enjoyed making this fun fashion jewelry so much, it was hard to stop! I wanted to try a few different designs and used a combination of GSL chipboard pieces and wooden charms to accomplish this.

First up, my framed diamond charm which I altered with some gears and a set of wings from the Steampunk Shape Set. I used a combination of DecoArt Metallic Lustre paint in Black Shimmer (which appears more pewter than black--I like it), Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Vintage Pink and Glimmer Glam Glitter Paint in Tail Fin. For more sparkle, I added a line of bling around the diamond frame. I also added rub-on words "rise-shine-fly" to the wings and looped a bit of pink cord and bling cord through the top of the charm hole.

Next up, my Small Wooden Dome Charm necklace. I loved the rich wooden tone this dome piece came as, so I simply heat embossed the frame with a coat of clear hologram embossing powder, then added bits of gold mica flakes to the inner part. I then laid down the words "be true" and added a tiny key inside the center of the little dome.

Finally, a couple of pieces made with the Large Wooden Circle Charm, Word Elements 1 and the Small Wooden Circle Charm. On the large circle, I first covered the wooden base with more hologram embossing powder and heat set, then heat embossed the word element "believe" in copper, and glued that on top of the base, which is a perfect fit. The small circle is done with the same hologram embossing powder and a clear bubble epoxy sticker from Amy Tangerine glued to the center. These are not only great to make into unique and cool jewelry, but also for making key chains, planner charms and so much more! Your imagination is truly the limit!
