Travel Tag

A fun, steampunk-ish travel tag. With our current circumstances in the world, perhaps travel from an armchair, or lost in a good book!

I began with Chipboard Decorative Tags - X large and the Shaped Edge Micro Mini Book.

I chose one of the tags and parts of the Micro mini book and configured it the way I thought would look nice.

I cut all my papers using the chipboard as templates and then put the parts of the album together using linen hinging tape.

I painted the backside of the book and all the tape that would show black.

 I glued all the papers on and then inked up the edges of the tag and book.

I then began composing what the inside of the piece looked like, letting the images from the papers I chose inspire me.

I added lots of little details like Dresden trim and some paint and ribbon.

I glued a matching ribbon around the back and tied it neatly in a bow around the front. to hold the book together. I also added a pretty green velvet ribbon to the top for hanging.
Also: I used the Punch Elements Deco Tags and the Tudor Rose SIngles to create the compass at the top of the tag.

Moving Day

Hello all, Lora here for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts with a little guy who after living in a busy village has decided to move his little house into a nice quiet, peaceful forest.

 He's got all the necessities - books, butterflies and a bottle of fizzy lemonade. What more could a person want?!
I started with Tiny Little Shadowbox House 4 
I love these little shadowbox houses-there are four different sizes and they are great separately or all together in a little wee neighborhood.

I glued my house up and bent up some fourteen gauge wire that will become the connection between the house and the 'ground'. I chose this wire because it was sturdy and bent well.
I knew I was going to use a propeller, and Hey presto! Gina just happens to have one......or twelve! (Propellers)

I chose one that was a good fit scale-wise for my house and painted it black, along with
Chipboard Shingles - Pointed

 And Tudor Rose Singles

I set them all aside to dry.

I found an old paint brush whose handle fit through the hole of the propeller and drilled a hole to fit into the top of my house. I painted the propeller black as well.
I covered the house inside and out with the papers I cut (and also painted the inside of the house a buff color so it reflected a bit of light)
After all was dry, I glued the house and wire together and then used linen hinging tape to help strengthen the bond.

I covered the hinging tape with an image that went well with the papers I used. (used Graphic 45 Old Curiosity Shoppe)
And let it dry. This takes a few hours.
Whilst that was drying, I cut out all of the things I wanted to put inside the house.
I used foam tape to stick everything in and give stuff some dimension. I added the propeller and shingled the house.

I also cut up the smallest Tudor Rose Singles and glued a piece to the gable of the house and the rest to the roof around the propeller. You can see the detail below...

At this point, I realized that in order to complete the base I had in mind I would need to straighten the ring of wire I made, which I did.
I drilled a hole in the center of an Artist Trading Coin,
stuck the wire through the hole and re-bent the ring.
And with a lot of glue, I sandwiched the ring between the top coin and a second coin (both of which I had papered with neutral green paper)
and clamped it together.

After everything was dry, I glued some cute green crocheted ribbon around the edge of the base and glued moss and little bottle brush trees on the top of the base.
I added some little touches like the buff and black paint dots and butterflies....

And here he is flying over the forest scouting for a good place to land!

Florentine Moon Triptych

I have always had an affinity with the night sky. The stars and moon make me swoon! And I've been especially inspired to make moony themed pieces recently, and this project is no exception.

The exterior is dark and moody. A Vintage Triptych "Florentine" is covered with paper from Graphic 45's Love Notes. 

The corners are adorned with Victorian Corners 2 which have been chopped in half to give a sort of hinge look. I've added a Hasp to the cover for a closure, and simply added the smallest of the Tudor Rose Singles to add a bit of decoration to the piece.

Inside I've relied on old paper and paint, and a bit of gold embossing powder.

Home Is Where The Heart Is

Hello crafty friends!  It's Susan on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog today.  I have a project today with a sentiment that is especially important to me these days.  My family is in the process of moving two states away.  The old house is on the market, still filled 90% of our "stuff".  We spend a lot of time in temporary lodgings, waiting to move on with our lives.  I do a lot of traveling between locations, but I always know that my home is, in fact, where my family is.

I used the Tiny House Shrine w/Doors, but as you can see in the photo above, I opted not to use the doors.

The smallest of the Tudor Rose Singles worked well to fit on my heart.  I planned to only use it as a reverse stencil and press into the paperclay heart, so coated all (why not?) with Mod Podge to help release from the wet paperclay.

It didn't end up making the best impression, but it worked.

In order to suspend the heart, I measured for the center of the roof and floor pieces and poked a small hole.   I also poked holes in the doors for tiny door knobs.  Everything was coated with white gesso.

While that dried I painted the heart and the medallion.  (By this time I'd already decided to use the medallion since the impression was so light.)  Once both were dry I used a toothpick and white glue to attach the two together.

In an experiment I decided to use embossing powder on top.  This is an after-but-still-wet photo.  Eventually the embossing powder peeled off.  Ugh.  I didn't prep the acrylic-painted heart and I think that's the reason.  Lesson learned.  In the finished photos you can see the medallion inside is semi-opaque in parts.  That's the embossing power that I didn't remove.  Instead, I covered the whole heart front with Glossy Accents to seal it.

Magically, the box is assembled!  I put sides and floor together first.  See the curled metal on the roof?  It's the same on the outside floor.  A little fiddly to do, but patience helped.

Not satisfied with a light outside, I painted everything with black gesso.  Not satisfied with a flat surface, I applied light molding paste, then re-gesso'd.  I used a matte varnish to finish.

I used a wee vintage metal button for the drawer handle.  I'm just going to view things like the bent wire above the heart as quirks of life, especially these days!

In this back view, you can see the roof wire shown earlier is now disguised.
