Door Hanger Tutorial - Part 1 of 2

Hi everyone!  Today I am sharing another quick and easy project using one of the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Door Hangers.  Now these are so versatile and fun to decorate.  You can use just about anything to enhance a bare piece of chipboard to perfectly suit yourself or whomever you plan to give it to. You can use it to display on your door knob whether you are either "IN"or "OUT", "BUSY", ARTIST AT WORK", or plain ole' "DO NOT DISTURB".  What will you put on yours?

Secret Garden Door Hanger

Can you spy the tiny fairies hiding in the secret garden? I had this Door Hanger staring at me and I knew I needed to make something.  I thought I would make something in my traditional snarky fashion.  When I started rooting around for supplies I was pulled toward flowers.  Maybe I wanted to use them because I  know these ones won't give me allergies! 

I covered my wildflower chipboard with Vintage Ivy Embossing Powder.  The flowers were given a quick coat of Green Pearl Embossing powder.  I added it right on top of the Vintage Ivy. The rest of the color was added by using Distress Markers and Distress Oxides.  I also used a piece from the Birdwatching set and gave it the same color treatment. 

The entire door hanger is covered with a piece of Wildflower paper from Tim Holtz.  I inked the edges with Vintage Photo. I hot glued a big hunk of moss to the bottom.   

I chose two of the Small fairies and them painted with Mowed Lawn Distress Paint Metallic Distress Paints

I wanted the fairies to be a little surprise that you don't see right away when you look at the piece so I covered them with Fractured Ice Embossing Powder.  

Don't they look kind of mossy now?

I added flowers to the moss and plunked one of the fairies right in there.  

The other one is hanging out up top blowing wishes to the flowers.

Welcome to Tutorial Tuesday with Gloria! We are making a door hanger today! I have used a baby theme, but you can use the basic tutorial to create a project in any theme you wish! 

I pulled out this cute Mother Goose paper (Graphic 45) and used some of it to create a Precious Little One door hanger! The hanger measures 9" x 4", not counting the ribbon hanger. I used a red, blue, and yellow theme, perfect for a boy or a girl. 

The door hanger has lots of layers and some fussy cut flowers. This is a great gift for a new baby's room!

Trim a piece of scrap chipboard to 9"x 4" and round the corners. (I save leftover bits of chipboard from other projects, in case they come in handy later. This piece of chipboard was left behind after I completed a mini album project.)

Trim plaid paper to 9" x 4" and round the corners. Attach the paper to the front of the chipboard. Sponge the edges with black ink. Trim a second piece of paper to cover the back of the chipboard. 

Open the Door Plate package and set the key and key holes aside. We will not be using them for this project. 

Cover the larger door plate chipboard piece with star paper and sponge the edges with black ink. Glue the door plate to the center of the chipboard rectangle. Cover the smaller door plate chipboard piece with flower paper and sponge the edges with black ink.

Please note: When I cover the chipboard pieces, I simply glue the chipboard piece to the decorative paper and trim around the chipboard with a craft knife and sharp scissors. I use sand paper to smooth out any rough edges before sponging with ink. You may wish to trace your piece onto the back of your paper and cut it out before gluing to the chipboard surface.

Glue the smaller door plate over the larger one, as shown.

Choose either the Baby Boy Clothesline Set or the Baby Girl Clothesline Set and remove the chipboard onesie from the package. (I chose to cover the baby boy onesie.) Cover the onesie with blue and white plaid paper and sponge the edges with black ink.  

Glue the onesie to the top portion of the door plate, at an angle. 

From the Baby Boy Clothesline Set or the Baby Girl Clothesline Set, select two socks and one rubber duckie button. Ink the rubber duckie button with embossing ink and heat emboss with yellow embossing powder. Tie a length of cream string through the holes. 

Cover the socks with decorative paper and sponge the edges with black ink.

Use the Crop-a-Dile (or similar tool) to punch holes and set grommets into the top corners of the door hanger. Thread black and white check ribbon through the holes. 

Glue the rubber duckie button to the center of the onesie. Use a black pen to draw detailing onto the onesie.

Fussy cut some flowers from the Mother Goose decorative paper and attach to the top of the the door plate. Add other decorative elements from the paper collection as desired.

From the Words & Phrases 2 Set, select the Precious Little One phrase. Spray the phrase with black spray mist. Once the mist has dried, cover the top of the chipboard phrase with Glossy Accents (or similar product). Allow the glue to dry and then attach the phrase to the lower portion of the door plate. 

Add pen work to the socks and attach them to the project with a tiny clothespin. Add decorative elements cut from the paper collection and fussy cut flowers, as shown.

Fall Door Hanger by Barb

My house might not be clean (who's got time for that?!), but it is decorated for the season!

I had fun making this autumnal door hanger. I love that Gina's Designs not only carries bits and pieces to put on crafty items, but the bases that are so often needed to begin a project. Such is the case with these sturdy Door Hangers.

I began my project by using a putty knife to spread orange, brown, and white acrylic paint on the door hanger. I spritzed it with both copper and gold irRESISTibles to give it some shimmer. Then I set it aside to dry thoroughly. While it was drying, I chose some leaves from the Fall Shape Set. I dabbed various colors of acrylic paint on these as well. Then I sprinkled them with matching glitters. 

Using those leaves as well as some silk leaves and a paper flower that I have in my "craft stash", I then assembled the piece with glue. 

I felt like the piece still needed something - a little more color and texture. So, I dabbed on Distress Stickles to both the background and the leaves. I also stamped on the branches using Chocolate Brilliance ink.

Now the inside of my home is as colorful as the outside is! I definitely need to get more of the door hangers so I can make one for every holiday and season. I'm already plotting out a Christmas design in my mind!

Winter Door Hanger Featuring The Robin's Nest

Good morning, Deann here with a winter door hanger using The Robin's Nest paper- Winter Snowflake.

 The paper, snowman and Frosty are from The Robin's Nest

 The added pom-pom fringe along the bottom of the door hanger looks like snowballs!

 White gesso was  rubbed along the edges.

 I used lots and lots of chipboard snowflakes from Gina's Designs.

No Girls Allowed!!

Hello friends! Kim here today, and  I have a very special little designer to share with you; my Grandson Brayden.

Brayden is 5 years old and loves to paint and color. When he came to my house for Christmas, he wanted to do some crafting. I got out the new boy's only set from Gina's and he decided to make a door plaque for his bedroom using the All Boy Shape Set and the door hanger.

He painted all the chipboard himself and choose all the colors that he liked. He wanted the robot piece to be holding a kite, and why not? Robots like kites too!

After all the pieces were painted, he chose two different blue colors of paint and mixed them up and painted the door hanger.  Once dried I helped him glue all the pieces on where he wanted them to go.

And here is the finished product! You can see he is very happy with the outcome!

I am very proud of my Grandson. He did a wonderful job on his door hanger. This is the wonderful thing about Gina's Chipboard items; they are great for any age to play with!
