Bee Yourself Shadow Box

Hello everyone.  Barbara here today, and I am so glad you stopped by because I have another really cute project for Gina's Designs Lasercuts.  I got this gorgeous bee themed shadowbox  that I could hardly wait to decorate.  The ideas were going round and round.  I decided to call it Reine des Abeilles, which is French for Queen Bee.

Print French Florals Overlays collage sheet onto cream card stock.  Trim to size to fit the back of the shadow box, but do not cover the dovetails that will be glued together.

Cover the sides with damask paper, again leaving the dovetail sections untouched.  I like to lay out the pieces so I can glue them together correctly.

Before putting the box together, cut out a frame piece from print paper to cover the front of the frame after it is glued together.  Set frame and paper aside, but glue the box together.  Save the center piece of the paper to adhere to the back of the box.

Paint the back of the frame with Burnt Orange chalk paint, as well as the outside of the box.  Add a wash of Vintage Mustard over the orange color to tone it down bit.

Print Queen Bee collage image, cut out, and layer onto a slightly larger scalloped circle from brown card stock.  Adhere to center of box with foam dots.

Paint both bees with black and orange paint pens.  Cover the thorax (upper body) of the bee with glue and add black Flower Soft®, and the abdomen (lower body) of the be with glue and yellow Flower Soft®.  I just love how my bees have fuzzy bodies, like in real life.

Paint Stargazer Radiant Gels dimensional paint over the wings.  Add a coat of clear crackle paint to the wings.  Aren't those wings awesome?

Paint the bee skip with Vintage Mustard chalk paint.  Glue to a piece of scrap chipboard. 

Glue pieces of natural sisal inside the openings.

Trim a piece of the bumble bee paper to 2-1/2" high by about 6-1/2" inches long.  Tear a piece away from the middle, inking and rolling the edges back, as shown.  

Paint a piece of the honeycomb chipboard with the Vintage Mustard chalk paint, and distress with brown chalk ink.

Turn paper over, glue a strip of heavy chip board or mat board (1" x 5-3/4") to the lower portion of the bumble bee paper, turning the ends to the back, as shown.  Add the piece of honeycomb. 

Glue two bottle caps inside the box, as shown.  Yep, I save everything, but sometimes there is a method to my madness!

Adhere this piece to the inside of the box, onto the bottle caps for support, as shown.

Add a couple of pieces of scrap mat board to the back of the skip to lift it up for dimension, and adhere to the right side of the box.

Paint another small piece of the honeycomb, and the knockout pieces, with Vintage Mustard, adhere inside box, as shown.  

Add the bees to the box, as shown.  The bee in the lower left corner is lifted with foam dots for dimension.

Glue the chipboard frame piece to the box, then cover the frame with the cutout print paper.  

Paint the "Bee Yourself" chipboard with Oatmeal chalk paint, adding brown chalk ink to give it depth.  Adhere to frame, along with a crown inked with Delicata Gold and Silver ink.

Dream Of Butterflies by Guest Designer Pam Bray

 I am so excited to share with you that I am the August Guest Designer

for Gina's Designs Lasercuts.

If you love chipboard, all I can say is Gina's Designs is the place to go!

 I decided to take the House Shrine House and create a Dream of Butterflies House using lots of Gina's Designs chipboard and Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe Collection.

 Paint the scallop borders from the Banner Border Strip Lasercuts using DecoArt Inc Media Patina Green Antique Cream, dry. Paint over the top with DecoArt Inc Media Quinacidone Gold, dry... this will give you that antique look.

 Spray pieces with DecoArt Inc White Shimmer Spray, dry.

 While the pieces are drying, prepare the House Shrine Box with Olde Curiosity Shoppe papers.

Fussy cut butterfly frame from two pieces of paper from the Olde Curiosity Shoppe, place on pop dots and place to inside of prepared House Shrine Box.

 Cut prepared Banner Border Strip and place on edge of prepared roof.

 Add prepared Victoria Layered Banner to bottom of House Shrine Box.  

Paint Dream Word from the 10 Words Set with DecoArt Lace Chalky Finish, dry and apply DecoArt Inc Quinacidone Gold over top. Add to front of House Shrine Box. 

Paint one of the Leafy Branch with Birds using DecoArt Inc New Life Chalky Finish, dry. Highlight edges of pieces using Patina Green Antiquing Cream, dry. ***Here you can see how I did the roof with a piece from the Banner Border Strip.

Fussy Cut lots of the butterflies from the Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe Paper Collections, adhere together at the body leaving the wings to bend up.

Glue Moss on the roof and inside of House Shrine Box.

 Add a metal lantern to the front.

Time Flies Steampunk Plaque Featuring The Robin's Nest Papers

Hi everyone! Amylove here stepping out of my comfort zone with a steampunk theme. I was inspired by picturing these amazing wings behind this little plaque I had laying around, and they worked well together!

This month Gina's Designs is cross promoting with The Robin's Nest and I have used some of there awesome papers on my hot air balloon, hat and the little bow at the base of the balloon.

I embossed the wings with some Stampendous Shabby White embossing powder.

Hi there! Can you believe it's August already? I'm still trying to figure out what happened to May and June! Time sure does fly, and this page sure illustrates that. I created a layout of my son's first portrait sitting, and this "little guy" is 23 years old now!

Since the paper I chose had edge details, I kept my design fairly simple, keeping the focus on the photo and the chipboard accents. I love the title piece, which I painted black, then heat embossed in black with a grid-patterned design. I then brushed it lightly with Iridescent green Silks.

As soon as I saw the Buttons shape set, I thought they'd be perfect for banners. I dry-embossed them with  plaid-patterned and flourish-patterned embossing folders, then painted them with acrylic paints in muted colours that echoed shades in the paper. I rubbed black ink over top to make the patterns stand out a bit more, then brushed on the same green Silks as I used on the title piece. They were popped up with foam dots for dimension.

 

While I enjoy creating card, canvases and altered art projects, scrapbooking is my first love as it means a lot to preserve memories of times that pass all too quickly.

Two Fun Projects Featuring The Robin's Nest by Kim and Gina

Hello Friends! Kim here today and I have a fun share for all of you featuring papers and embellishments from The Robin's Nest.  All month long our team at Gina's Designs Lasercuts is cross promoting with the team at The Robin's Nest, and we have been having a blast playing with the amazing products from them.

I started of this layout with my inspiration being this lovely lady in one of my vintage photos from my collection.  She always looked "grumpy" to me, so I dubbed her "the grumpy lady".  I always wonder who these folks are, where they were from and how their photos end up in yard sales and in thrift stores.  I created some background texture on the "Fleur Honeycomb" paper with my texture paste and some Twinkling H2o's to pick up on the colour tones in the paper. I also added some of the Time Flies Rub ons from The Robins Nest to the background, I really love these, they fit in so well with the theme  of the layout.

Once the background was complete, I started to layer on more of the papers from The Robin's Nest, some burlap and more chipboard from Gina's.  I used this lovely chipboard frame from Gina's Designs. I took some of the Robin's Nest Dew Drops and placed them on the corner of the frame and then added a few to the ruler at the base of the photo to add some sparkle and shine!

My finishing touches were some lace from my stash and some gorgeous Petaloo flowers.  I hope my "Grumpy Lady" is happy in her new home, and maybe somewhere out there, she is smiling.

Thanks Kim!  I used two of the gorgeous Robin's Nest papers to create a museum style specimen box.  The Frame box was made using the Glitter Calamity Jane Diagonal paper and the interior background is the Khaki Glitter paper. The papers are a nice heavy weight just perfect for creating dimensional items.

The butterflies were fussy cut from images I printed.  The cocoon is made from a folded paper flower and the egg is a small rolled piece of cheesecloth.

August Nature Challenge For Gina's Designs Craft Group on Facebook

 

 

Hello fellow crafters! Gina here today to share with you our August monthly challenge for our Facebook Group.

 

This month we are celebrating nature, and the challenge is to use anything in nature, or nature inspired.

 

 

I used a cereal box for my background and gessoed it, then covered it with some of the Tim Holtz Wallflower paper.

 

 

For the window boxes I used some stick pin boxes from my stash and cut a rectangle and used some acetate for the windows. The boxes actually open and reveal some butterflies and birds inside.

 

I added some of my chipboard pieces as well, using the Honeycomb and Bee set.

Trim Organizer by Kim C.

This week I put together this trim organizer. 

 Let me start with telling you my funny story.  I was in the process of finishing up this project when I accidentally hit my cup of coffee.  I have never moved so fast trying to move stuff off my desk!!!  I was able to save about 90% of my project but still lost some very nice paper in the process.  

I love the way it turned out even with some coffee stains on it!!

 

First I adhered paper from my stash, and then used a clock stencil and modeling paste to give texture.  Some lace and trim from my stash was then added and then some ornate metal feet to the corners of the organizer.

 

The hanging clock has about 4 coats of gesso on it.  If you look really close you can see it has also been coffee stained!!!  Not the look I was going for, but it works!!

I then started layering flowers to make this beautiful flower spray.

On this corner of the organizer I added some more flowers and a metal clock piece.  You can see some of the texture I added with the modeling paste and stencil.

I added paper to the lace dividers, but only to two of them.  Due to the mishap with the coffee, I was unable to save the rest of the paper.  But these two look great!!

 

I hope you like my project this week and had a little chuckle!!
