Steampunk Expedition Greeting Card by Ginny

Hey there Paper Peeps!  I've got a little steampunk inspiration coming your way inspired by some gorgeous masculine papers with hot air balloons. I pulled out some of my favorite steampunk chippies from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and loads of mixed media supplies and beautiful flowers.

Here's a look at how I altered the chippies....

The most important thing is to select chipboard that will enhance your project.

Even if I'm going to finish the chippies with dark colors I base coat them in flat white paint.

I used a very thick coat of Iron Paste from Pentart and allowed to dry. Next I globbed on 3D Matte Gel from art basics to add a lumpy bumpy texture, then heat set to encourage the bubbling.

Using a cosmetic sponge I dabbed and smooshed on loads of alcohol inks.

I finished up the card with flowers, micro beads and twine.

Hope Shabby Chic Vintage Tag by Ginny

Hey there Paper Peeps!  Dropping in today to share a very vintagy and shabby tag today created with the Triptych chippie and lots of mixed media supplies.

I am really into pinks and gold this season. It's so pretty and romantic : ) 



There's a garden of flowers of course.

Subtle background and mixed media finishes.

Thoughtful sentiment  banner tucked in.
Here's how I made it....

Start by selecting chippies.

I gave the triptych and the other "chippies" a base coat of white. The background is a stencil of gold chevron that has an additional layer of white over the top to knock the pattern back a bit. Liquid Pearls give dimension to the Hypericum Berries.

Using my finger I dabbed a bit of Frayed Burlap to the bumpy parts then a bit of a Platinum Stickles for sparkle.

A dry brushing of the gold paint for the top layer of the triptych then adhered to the base. The clock is painted out in white with a generous coat of clear crackle...then allowed to dry.

Using strong glue adhere the chippies to create a base for the flowers.

All dressed up with the flowers and sentiment. Finished off with a bit of faux snow medium .

The Crows Clock by Nichola

Clocks have always fascinated me. Mantle clocks, wall clocks, clock towers, grandfather clocks. They give measure to the passing of time, keep us in order, but there's something quite mystical about them too.  

I thought of making a cuckoo clock for a while. Shortly after making the 'Goblin Throne' last month, a crow perched outside my window and nudged me to make a 'Crow's Clock' instead of a clock of the cuckoo variety. Who am I to argue with a crow?

The base of the clock is one of my favourite products from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts, the 3 Story House. It's a great size to work with and I think it's practically perfect as a clock body. I carved out an arch on the front and framed it with an Reliquary - Tower Top.

Lace and Shell Border Sticks are used as edge embellishments and shingles for the roof.  For the
Little Bird House at the top, I used Dresden borders to repeat the patterned edge. At the tippy top you can see a wooden round thing... that's a vintage French lottery number, but don't worry if you don't have one of those in your stash, you could easily trade it out for one of the pieces from the Faux Typewriter Keys Symbol Set. Those cute leafy frame and filigree bits are these Fanciful Elements.

The clock does work and I've used the mechanism from the Desk Clock Standard. I did replace the hand with this Clock Hands Shape Set and swapped out the numbers with a frame from this Hanging Clock Set. Totally not necessary to replace all those parts, but I like the way all these pieces fit together.

Cuckoo clocks have weights in the shape of pine cones that drive the clock. Although my clock isn't weight driven, I wanted to include this traditional element by adding some real pine cones on a length of chain, along with some oak leaf charms.

 

This is a such a great project if you like adding embellishments and borders and you could go totally over the top if you wanted. If you'd like to make your own, check out my video that tells "The Tale of the Crow's Clock" and how it came together.

Tags in a Box Display and January Tag by Dianna

Hi Everyone, Dianna here with Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Tags in a Box Display. The Box comes with six tags.  I decided to create a tag for each month and decided to to us Graphic 45's Time to Flourish on the January tag.

I started by painting the Tag Box a cream color.  I then sprayed it with a bronze spray to give it a more worn look.  I then papered the box first with Graphic 45's Botanical Tea - striped paper then I distressed paper from the same line.

I used Twinkling H20's on Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts - Hanging Clock and glued the clock on the back of the Tag Box. 

I papered the Tag with Graphic 45's French Country Collection - Rendezvous.  I used white ink to lighten the red a little.  I used a bronze Twinkling H20's on Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts - Deco Lattice Panel 2.  I then used a white ink to give it a little winter effect.  I used a bronze Twinklings on the Leafy Corners vine and green on the leaves.  I then used the white ink to tone done the bronze of the vines.  I used red nail art stones on the leaves for winter berries.  I fussy cut Graphic 45's - Time to Flourish - January.  I then decided since it was cold and snowing here that I needed snow flakes.  I painted Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts - Snowflake Border white and used three different Stickles on the snowflakes.  I placed the snowflakes on the lattice to finish the tag.

Generations - a Heritage Layout by Lynne

Hello there and Happy New Year and a happy January to you! Although I love creating a variety of projects, layouts are my first love so I thought it would be appropriate to start the new year off with one.

I coated the clock with a rusting powder then brushed on antique gold acrylic paint here and there to create a vintage effect. I love how detailed the clock is!

I covered the first two layers of the cameo piece with patterned paper then sanded and inked the edges. The profile piece was painted with acrylic paint then heat-embossed with UTEE to give a glossy raised finish.

The photo I used is a portrait of my great-great grandparents. She was of French heritage born here in Canada, but he came over from Ireland during the potato famine in the mid 1800s. I've been so enjoying the heritage photos I've gotten of both sides of my family. They're such a pleasure to scrap with and there are so many gorgeous pieces in the Gypsy Soul store that complement them so well.

Trim Organizer by Kim C.

This week I put together this trim organizer. 

 Let me start with telling you my funny story.  I was in the process of finishing up this project when I accidentally hit my cup of coffee.  I have never moved so fast trying to move stuff off my desk!!!  I was able to save about 90% of my project but still lost some very nice paper in the process.  

I love the way it turned out even with some coffee stains on it!!

 

First I adhered paper from my stash, and then used a clock stencil and modeling paste to give texture.  Some lace and trim from my stash was then added and then some ornate metal feet to the corners of the organizer.

 

The hanging clock has about 4 coats of gesso on it.  If you look really close you can see it has also been coffee stained!!!  Not the look I was going for, but it works!!

I then started layering flowers to make this beautiful flower spray.

On this corner of the organizer I added some more flowers and a metal clock piece.  You can see some of the texture I added with the modeling paste and stencil.

I added paper to the lace dividers, but only to two of them.  Due to the mishap with the coffee, I was unable to save the rest of the paper.  But these two look great!!

I used red and black chalk inks directly on the chipboard to tone down the colors.
