Harvest Moon-A Peek-a-Boo Project

This is Jon  David Lowe for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts, I'm not sure why but I feel owls are an autumnal totem. Maybe it is their golden feathers, as those of the leaves that lose their green grandeur. Or perhaps it's their silent graceful gliding on the midnight winds reminds us that Autumn is season of settling in as we transition into Winter. For whatever reasons owls and autumnal moons are the inspirations for this artwork.   I am uniting two of my favorite companies Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and P.M. art Studio for this collaboration. Both of these companies are headed by fantastic females who have  played  a role  in encouraging me as an artist.

1.  Gather Supplies.

2.  My P.M. art Studio-Nested Circle Sets of 12 were sent to be with all of their lovely patina so I used them as is.

3.  Take apart GSLC Celtic Owl, and use embossing gel to add TH Vintage Photo and Emerald Creek Weathered Wood Embossing Powders.

4.  Cure with a  Heating Tool.

5.  Add patina and depth by using Red Rust Paste, Rusty Bronze Powder, and Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold Acrylic Paint.

6.  Take Apart GSLC Creepy5 Inch Trees.

7.  Make a slurry of Cosmic Shimmer Lava Paste, Spices-Nutmeg Chili Powder and Green Acrylic Paints.

  8.  Use a small plastic palette knife to apply green slurry.

9.   Make a second slurry of Cosmic Shimmer Lava Paste, Spices-Nutmeg Chili Powder and Brown Acrylic Paints this time. Use a small plastic palette knife to add brown slurry.

10.                Coat trees with Delco Art Matte Varnish.

11.                Use a vintage wooden frame that you have added a black velvet background to.

12.                Use foam dots and strips to compose your assemblage.

Some Final Thoughts.

I enjoy listening to podcasts while I am working on my art in the summertime. A favorite is Nocturne, in the episode Two Owls, the host says, " to connect with an owl, even in a small way, is a rare gift. There is no animal more emblematic of the night. Elusive, mysterious and powerful: owls inspire both fear and awe. This episode tell two stories about the sweet reward of slowing down, about watching and listening to what's around us in the darkness.

Music Of Nature

A bright glowing moon reflects upon the forest..

Mysterious is the night..

Sights and sounds dominate..

Natural beauty..

 Speaks..

Many volumes..

Through the luscious greenery..

Crickets singing to their tune..

An owl chimes in with hooting..

Wolves joined together..

Howling at the moon..

Through the music of the night..

There lies an abundance of serenity..

The glory of nature..

Stillness of the night Installs a calming oasis.. Found inner peace ..

 Tranquil moments of bliss

Our gift from Mother Nature..

-Robertina B.

I'm not very keen for doves or hawks. I think we need more owls. -George Aiken

Words should wander and meander. They should fly like owls and flicker like bats and slip like cats. They should  murmur and scream and dance and sing. -David Almond

Owls are known as lonely birds: but it is not known that they have the forest as their best friend!- Mehmet Murat Ildan

I cannot wait to see your interpretation of this project. Share it on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Craft Group Page on Facebook. I would love to see what new creations you are working on!
