Dream catcher

Hi everyone, Heather with you today to show you how to make a dream catcher with various items from GSLcuts.com, other than the actual dreamcatcher, which is in the store. I thought that it would be fun to invent my own, so here it is.

First  of all I decided which items to use and I chose the ones above to begin with, and as usual I forgot to take a photo of them all before I put Gesso on them hence the mixed photo. However I did remember to take a photo of the feathers, (below) then I covered these with Gesso.

I found some blue paper with clouds on it and decided that it would be nice as a background on the air balloons that I used in the middle. I used a small flower shaped die to go in the middle of the balloons and decided that two would look better than one so I stuck these together then glued them onto the balloons and added a deep red ready made rose in the middle of the flowers. I used my hot 

glue gun to stick these together because I thought it would 

give it strength and stick together better

I wanted the flowers in the centre of the balloons to stand out a bit so I used the large and small scalloped punch elements stuck together with 2mm. thick foam tape, then glued the flowers into the centre of these.

The baskets of the air balloon were stuck on top of each other to form the centre then I stuck the dream word element  that I had coloured blue with distress ink onto a spare flower and glued this in the centre. This formed the basic shape that I wanted for my dreamcatcher. 

I needed some flimsy feathers to go onto my gsl feathers, and I hadn't got any, so my daughter kindly posted some to me and as you can see I edged the GSL feathers with blue distress ink then stuck the flimsy feathers onto the back. I had some white wire with white pearls on the end of them that made a spray of three so I stuck these to the front of my feathers and tied them to the bottom of the dream word element, so that they just hung loose, then I glued the remaining two GSL feathers into the side of the balloons just to give a bit of a feature. A piece of satin ribbon with a bow in the middle to hang it with was glued onto the back of the balloons and I have my (make it myself) dreamcatcher. Hope  you might be inspired to make one as well. It is a little bit "fiddly" in places but really good fun to make.

Steampunk Expedition Greeting Card by Ginny

Hey there Paper Peeps!  I've got a little steampunk inspiration coming your way inspired by some gorgeous masculine papers with hot air balloons. I pulled out some of my favorite steampunk chippies from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and loads of mixed media supplies and beautiful flowers.

Here's a look at how I altered the chippies....

The most important thing is to select chipboard that will enhance your project.

Even if I'm going to finish the chippies with dark colors I base coat them in flat white paint.

I used a very thick coat of Iron Paste from Pentart and allowed to dry. Next I globbed on 3D Matte Gel from art basics to add a lumpy bumpy texture, then heat set to encourage the bubbling.

Using a cosmetic sponge I dabbed and smooshed on loads of alcohol inks.

I finished up the card with flowers, micro beads and twine.

Almost Three...Layout by Lynne

Hello there! Since my son's 24th birthday is the 17th of April, I decided to make a layout with one of my favourite photos from his childhood. I can't believe so much time has passed since this was taken....hmmm... funny, he's an adult now and I'm still 29-haha! Pretty soon my kids will be older than me (wink wink)

The outfit he was wearing was mostly dark green with some navy blue so I played that up on the chipboard accents. I dry embossed the heart then painted the heart and balloon with navy acrylic paint and then dabbed some dark green on top when the base was dry. I then rubbed on some gold pigment ink. I used the same process on the gear pieces, but painted them green and dabbed them with the navy blue before adding the ink.

I love that you can choose a wide variety of chipboard accents for your projects and then make them coordinate by finishing them with the same technique. ColourArte and Craft Group Challenge

Hello all!  Gina here to share a project I made using ColourArte products. 

All month long you will be seeing lots of gorgeous work by our team members featuring ColourArts.  If you have never used them, be sure to check them out! The colors are fabulous; fully pigmented and the shimmer is just perfect.

I decided to team up my ColourArts Twinkling H2O's and Silks with Deann's Facebook Group challenge, Recycle, to create a faux canvas.  I began with a cracker box that was headed for our recycle bin. 

I glued the top flap shut and coated the box with gesso.  Once dry, I covered the box with strips torn from old dictionary pages. Using the Brick Wall Texture Sheet, I created the brickwork in the upper left corner with Snow-tex.  I colored the bricks with Playful Peony Twinkling H2O's, Black Soot and Fired Brick Distress Inks.

I then used the Guatemalan Green Silks to wash the box.

The Balloon was painted with Silks in Apple Blossom and Emperor's Gold.  The background for the balloon top was cut from a piece of old sheet music.

The feather was colored using Iridescent Blue Twinkling H2O's and then inked with some Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.  The Key was washed with the Emperor's Gold Silks for a brass look.

I printed out the quote using a word processing program and cut it up to arrange it as I wanted it.

The tree was inked with Walnut Brown Distress Ink and the branches tipped with Pretty Peridot Silks.

Cards by Shanna

Shanna here with two cards to share. I thought the Arched Windows Set would be a great piece for this card. I colored the chipboard using some Prima Chalks and then gave it a coat of glossy accents.

Here you can see the Fern Fronds with a pastel Prima Chalk.

For my second card I couldn't resist using the Cartographer collection with this fabulous Hot Air Balloon Net Style .

I first coated it gesso, then more Prima chalks, followed by Gold Foil Prima Bloom Spray.  I heat set that,  then I used Lindy's Sandra Dee Flat Fabio spray to darken it up.

Family Photo Cube by Kim

Hi everyone and happy Friday! For me weekends are all about family, so today I would like to share with you my Family Photo Cube I have created featuring photos of my Grandson Brayden.  I used some of the Prima Cartographer paper on this cube, and there are lots of images of hot air balloons on the paper, so it worked out great with Gina's Net Style Hot Air Balloons which I have used on the top of the cube.  I also used some of the Border & Corner Gear Miniatures along the side of the balloon, and a wooden sentiment from my stash that says Our Family.

Above here you can also see the photo on the front and I have used some of the Art Deco Corners, embossed in black, for photo corners. I finished it off with some flowers and a metal zipper.

 Below here you can see some photos of my beautiful Grandson Brayden.  I have placed his photo inside some of the new Word Frames.  The first one says "moment", and on the opposite side of the cube, I have one which says "family". I used another of the Border & Corner Gear Miniatures, a metal arrow and flower in the corner of the frame. I wanted to keep it simple, to make the photo the star of the show.

 

Here is the reverse side of the photo cube. You can see I have used one of the new Photo Reels, embossed it in black, and then used a metal flower on top of it. I then used one of the words from the Word & Phrases 1 set "love", and topped it off with another flower. Below the back of the hot air balloon, I used a metal butterfly and cameo. On the base you can see I placed a vintage doily, some more flowers and some of Gina's Feathery Flourishes to complete the look. 

 Below here is a close up of the Deco corners, they make perfect photo corners for projects, I just love how they turned out and they hold the photo perfectly!

Hello everyone, Heidi here.  I just adore these large size chipboard tags so much, giving you lots of space to decorate and make a statement.

I started this tag by taking a piece of kraft cardstock, crimping it and then tore a couple of spots in the top paper so that the "corrugated" paper shows through. I like doing this because then you can tear your paper and either stamp on that back piece or in this case, I put in a gear and then layered another layer of gears/buttons on top of it.

Then at the top of the tag I added a few more gears and tied them together.  My thought in my head is that the gears are turning and the balloon is rising.
