Sweet winged dressform

I've started this blog post a million times. Trying to come up with a good explanation, a reason for this project. The truth is, there is none. It's just a fun silly thing that happens to be pretty.

And you know, that's ok. Why does there need to be a reason to create something other than the urge to do so?!

 So I've made this pretty frock using a Dressform Hang Up as a base.

To it I've added a pair of wings from the Wings Assortment

And nestled a piece of the Victorian Corners 2 set onto the bodice (it fits just right!)

I've layered silk rose petals and tulle for the dress portion, simply hot gluing them in place. A bit of glitter, paper flowers and a heart embellishment and voila! you've got a sweet little something.

Shabby Chic Halloween Dressform Hangup

Hi everyone!  Today we are going to make our Halloween costume … in miniature!  And we will be using the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Dressform Hang Up to begin the process.

To make the shabbiest, creepy dress possible, tear a piece of 12x12 double sided print card stock into irregular triangular shapes.

I found it easiest to use a ruler and tear the paper towards me.

Mist the triangles with water and carefully pleat and scrunch the shapes, allowing some of the reverse side of the print to show on the front.  Let the shapes dry.

Trace around the bodice portion of the hang up onto the back side of a piece of glittery fabric and cut out.

Ink up top portion of hang up with black pigment ink and heat emboss with Oil Rubbed Bronze embossing powder.  Don't worry if some of the embossing powder gets onto the bodice portion.  It will be covered up with our fabric piece.

Glue paper triangles together with hot glue at the top where it will be joined with the bodice.

You will need to scrunch it together enough so it will fit behind the bodice.

Cut strips of creepy cloth gauze and glue to the top of the skirt.

Glue skirt to bodice.

Wrap black lace around front of bodice and skirt and glue to the back.

I made a bow using black plastic netting from a bag that held produce and glued it to the top of the bodice.

Spray entire dress with Fully Purple mist and let dry.  Spread random patches of green glitter paint onto high spots of paper triangle strips.  You may want to enlarge the picture to see the colors better.

Paint the raven with Paynes Grey, then Black Ice glitter paint.  Paint the the bat with Berry Metallic, then Black Ice glitter paint.  Let dry.

Add dots of Lime Green Liquid Pearls to bat's eyes and one dot of Emerald Green Liquid Pearls to raven's eye. Let dry.  (I added tiny black dots to the eyes with a black Sharpie marker).

Glue bat to top of hanger and raven to bodice, as shown.

Lay out three lengths of chain, each one longer than the first.  My chain lengths measure approximately 3-1/2", 6-1/2", and 9".

Use jump rings to connect the ends of each chain length. They should drape as shown  below.

Add skull charms to each length of chain, as shown.

Use small brads to attach the jump rings on each side to the top of the skirt.  I simply pierced a small hole through the paper part of the skirt and inserted the brad prongs.  A touch of glossy accents will keep everything in place.

At the last minute, I found this tiny metal gear on my desk, and instead of risking losing it, I glued it to the raven's eye, then added a tiny dot of the same Liquid Pearls to the center.

Here is a closer look at the bat and his beady eyes.  I also glued a small skull charm to the center of the bow, as shown.

Find a nice place to hang your costume, and you will be ready for the mini Halloween ball.

Steampunk'd Dressform Hang Up

Hello and happy Thursday!  Barbara here again with another project using these fabulous Dressform Hang Ups from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.  If you recall, last week I shared a Shabby Chic Dressform Hang Ups.  Click here to see that post.  This week, I am going all out in Steampunk style.

Step 1:  Paint Dressform Hang Up with Titan Buff, then rust, and dry brush with burnt umber.  Glue hanger piece on top of dress form hanger to create dimension.

Step 2:  Trace bodice onto jeweled paper, cut out and adhere to Dressform Hang Up.

Step 3:  Use chipboard piece removed from Dressform Hang Up  trace and cut out embossed faux leather paper, adhere to piece.

Step 4:  Place faux leather piece over corset, trace lower edge and remove.

Step 5:  Once removed, cut corset apart, as shown.  Save bottom piece for another project.

Step 6:  Paint corset with Paynes Grey, dab with Translucent Yellow Oxide, and cover with Titanium White antiquing cream.  Remove some of the antiquing cream with damp baby wipe to give the appearance of a patinated metal.  Thread 22g copper wire through holes in corset.

Step 7:  Glue corset to bodice, then glue faux leather belt on top, as shown.

Step 8:  Cut patterned paper to 7" x 12".  Spritz with water and gently crumple the paper until soft.  Carefully tear up the center and roll the edges.  Very gently shape the paper and dry with heat tool.  It will become very stiff and hold its shape.

Step 9:  To make the underskirt, cut a piece of coordinating patterned paper to fit the opening.  Also trim a piece from the Texture Sheets Gears and paint with white gesso.

Step 10:  Paint Texture Sheets Gears with Paynes Grey, dab with Translucent Yellow Oxide, and cover with Titanium White antiquing cream.  Remove some of the antiquing cream with damp baby wipe to give the appearance of a patinated metal.  

Step 11:  Glue gears and print paper beneath the opening in the skirt.  Cut apart a few more individual gears from the Texture Sheets Gears,  color with antique gold paste wax, and adhere randomly over the bottom texture sheet, as shown.

Step 12:  Glue skirt to bodice, as shown.  Use a good, tacky glue and place a heavy object over it until the glue dries.

Step 13:  Cut chain link in half, add gold metallic ink and heat emboss with gold embossing powder. Adhere to skirt in a crisscross manner.  Add a metal charm and metal studs, as shown.

Step 14:  Add one individual gear that is colored with antique gold wax to the hanger, as shown.

Shabby Chic Dressform Hangup

Hello again, my fellow chippy fans!  It's Thursday again.  Barbara here with this week's Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts project.  Have you ever played with paper dolls, dressed them in paper clothes, and spent hours dressing and re-dressing them?   Well, when I saw these fab Dressform Hang Ups from Gypsy Soul Lase Cuts, I knew I was going to have some fun!

Step 1: Paint hangup portion with Titan Buff acrylic paint.

Step 2: Add a mixture of Burnt Umber and Interference Gold paint to the hang up to make it more shabby chic.  Adhere small piece of hangup over the larger piece for added dimension.

Step 3: Cover bodice with print paper.

 Step 4: Accordion fold a 6"x12" piece of corresponding print paper, every ¼", to form dress.

Step 5: Staple top section of paper with tiny stapler, or tape it, as shown so that the bottom flares out like a fan.

Step 6: Use a decorative circle punch a 5"x12" piece of coordinating paper to create the "apron" portion of the dress, then accordion fold it, as shown.

Step 7: These chipboard shapes are pieces that were removed from the hangup portion.  Paint them with ColourArte Apricot Nectar Silks Acrylic Glaze.  Two coats were needed.

Step 8: Paint a feathery flourish with two coats of ColourArte Apricot Nectar Silks Acrylic Glaze.

Step 9: Adhere the four knockout pieces to the bodice, as shown.  Add a metal filigree jewelry embellishment to the bodice.

Step 10: Add the dress apron, tiny flowers and leaves, to the right side of the dress, as shown.  Diamond Stickles glitter glue was also added to the flower petals.

Step 11: The feathery flourish was glued just to the left of the apron, along with a short string of pearls.

I really had a ton of fun with this one, and I hope you will be inspired to make one, or two, or three of these fun dresses.  I think they would be perfect for little girls and big girls, alike!  This would make such a beautiful statement, also, on a scrapbook page layout, or how about the front of a mini album or altered book!  Or just make a bunch of them and hang them up!  Stay tuned because next week, I have another surprise for you with another style that I think you are going to like.
