Clothesline Contemplations-A Peek-A-Boo Project

  This is Jon David Lowe for GSLC Design Team. As I have written before my momma passed away in 2018, but I think of her often and honor her in my artwork and disposition. She was an avid gardener and loved looking through her flower gardens spotting any new blooms. The first flowers to bloom would be the tiny white snowdrops followed quickly by the tiny blue spring beauties. Added to our springtime bouquets would eventually be lily-of-the valley in both pink and white, bleeding hearts of similar shades, pussy willow, and crab-apple blossoms. We had a very unique childhood growing up along the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains part of the much larger Appalachian Mountains. For many years of my childhood Wednesday or Saturday was laundry day, using an ancient wringer washer, an improvement from a washboard and a crick,  and then hanging our well-worn clothes on the clothesline to dry in the fresh spring air. This is the inspiration for this artwork.

1.  Gather Supplies 

2.  Use a variety of Acrylic Paints and a Small Plastic Pallet Knife to Age Decorative Washboard Reproduction- I Used- Grey, Turquoise, Titan Green Pale, and Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold

3.  Fill in Empty Spaces with TH Distress Stain Shabby Shutters.

4.  Use Alcohol Inks to Stain and Patina Silver Portion of Washboard.

5.   Cut a Piece of Book Board to fit Into Top Portion of Washboard. Add Vintage French Script to Top Panel.

6.  Use Highlighters, Metallic Markers, and Liquid Pearls to Color, GSLC Wild Flowers Negative and GSLC Cherry Blossom Branch

7.  Use Gold FolkArt Design Cream and Interference Blue (Fine) Paint to Color GSLC Floral Lace Panel and Top Panel.

8.  Add TH Distress Stain Rusty Hinge to Enhance the Patina of Vintage French Script. Tear and Add Strips to Top Panel and Back of GSLC 4 Inch Cage with Solid Back.

9.  Use Variety of Acrylic Paints to Color GSLC 4 Inch Cage with Solid Back and GSLC Bird on a Swing Shape Set.

10.                Use Heavy Gel Matte to Assemble Your Project.

    

11.                While Still Wet Add Nutmeg, Chili Powder, And Green Ground Cover to Make it Look More Vintage and Aged.

Some Final Thoughts.

I used the word crick in my opening paragraph referring to a creek or small stream. These are a  few more childhood words that may or may not be familiar to you.

"Journey" Mixed Media Canvas by Linsey

Hello friends! Linsey here and today I'm sharing a mixed media piece I made using a 6x6 inch stretched canvas flipped and transformed into a miniature shadowbox. This piece speaks the truth to me in my everyday life and when it comes to art, it is much the same. The creative process, like life, is also a journey. We are all free to fly, we all wear a crown and artistically, our imagination is the only limit. I like to file this under my "Creator endowed rights" and my little shadowbox is a reflection of that freedom.

The fantastic selection of wood and chipboard pieces from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts is endless! I chose the Art Deco Corner Set to emboss in white and adorn the corners of the shadowbox. Next I chose to use a few of the House Jewelry Pieces and one of the birds from the Bird On A Swing Shape Set to adorn the inside of the canvas-shadow box. Again, I heat embossed these pieces in white. I added a layer of Hologram embossing powder over the house and house frame, then added a rub on sentiment to the surface of the embossed bird. I also added a metal crown to the bird and glued several purple beads to the inside of the tiny house frame. Then I glued them to the inner top so they can dangle on little strands of bling.

Next I gathered plenty of paper flowers in various sizes and colors, then painted them all in a coat of white gesso. I chose the Wooden Journey Charm for the top front of the box and painted it in gesso as well. After all was dry, I started painting the word charm, each flower and the canvas (inside and out) with Shimmerz watercolor paints in piggy pink, blue lagoon and pugnacious purple. Then I glued everything in place and added a bit of twine in a bow to the side. I really like how the Journey charm turned out.  It took the Shimmerz paints so beautifully.

Enjoy the Moment by Guest Designer Pam Bray

Good morning to all our Gypsy Soul Laser Cut fans!!! I am sharing today my "Enjoy the Moment" Wall Hanger!!! To begin your wall art paint all your chipboard die cut with white paint. Allow them to dry. 

 Dab paint on Intricate Doily using Bundled Sage and Forest Green. Allow to dry completely. 

Dab paint on large Damask Singles with Bundled Sage, Forest Moss and Peeled Paint. Allow to dry completely.

Dab Enjoy the Moment with Victorian Velvet and Seedless Preserves. Allow to dry completely.

 Dab the Bird on a Swing using Vintage Photo and Broken China. Allow to dry completely.

Dab Reliquary Arch and a few of the scrap pieces from the chipboard with Walnut Stain. Allow to dry completely. (Adhere pattern paper to inside of the Reliquary Arch and fussy cut the pattern piece out while you wait for the chipboard to dry.)

 Adhere top of Reliquary Arch over pattern paper. Adhere small Bird on Swing to inside of Reliquary Arch.

 Adhere fussy cut image to top of Reliquary Arch. 

Cut Large Damask and adhere to the back of the Reliquary Arch. (Make sure the painted side is facing out)

 Adhere prepared scraps of chipboard to the inside of Reliquary Arch along with metal handle.

Adhere prepared Enjoyed the Moment to the top of Reliquary Frame.Add prepared flowers. Make a pretty bow to place at the top of the Reliquary Arch along with more of the prepared flowers. Place some of the flowers over the top of the Bird on a Swing.

Finish the Enjoy the Moment Wall Hanging using a small clear babble. I hope you grab your Reliquary Arch and create yourself a beautiful wall hanging to remind you to "Enjoy the Moment"!!!

Spring Layout

Hello friends!  Welcome to Gina's Designs Blog! 

 Happy Fathers Day to all the Fathers out there!! 

Today I want to share a layout that I had so much fun creating.  With summer coming on,  I thought I'd share these beautiful blooms with you.  The Cottage Windows Large are the perfect accent for this layout. You can see the blooms peeking out of the window and it gives you the feeling of looking through the windows are your favorite summer flowers.

The Bird on a Swing Shape set is such a fun piece, I thought it would look realistic if it was hanging.  I used the Texture Sheet Fleur De Lis.  I used small pieces of it and created the hanger.

 I also added several pieces under the Cottage Window.

Directions for chipboard pieces:

Paint with copper colored acrylic paint and ink edges with chocolate chalk ink.  

Add DecoArt  rub to the outside of the pieces.

Add adhesive gems to pieces as shown.

Garden Cards

Hello to you all. Shanna here and I am feeling a little dark lately. 

Well not really dark. I used some darker colors on my cards to share with you all.

I love Prima and I have had some of the Nature Garden collections in my stash. I thought this was perfect and it turned out great with the chipboard I wanted to use.

Of course all my chipboard pieces got a coat of gesso. Then I proceeded to go to town :)

For my first card I used some Prima Chalk Ink but I didn't fully cover everything, just a little pat here and there.

The second card got a coat of chalk board paint. The Bird on a Swing Shape Set got a great crackle glaze but the cracked for some reason didn't make it all the way to the center of the bird.

I love crackle accents! It is so much fun to just add a bit more texture to projects! 

I finished the cards with some chit chat words.
