Graphic 45 Tag Sampler

Hello crafty friends!  It's Susan on the blog today, and I have to be honest, I started this Tags In A Box project without real focus.  I wanted to use scraps of Graphic 45 papers, things I prepared with fussy cutting or layering, yet never used. Once I started it, I quickly became underwhelmed by my efforts.  It was a good idea, but...  'meh' on execution.  It was way after midnight and I went to bed with 3 tag fronts laid out, thinking I was too far in to quit, but I needed to sleep on it.

In the morning over coffee, I wondered what I'd do with this project after it was completed.  Should I even continue?

Then I remembered Margo.  We met at a local monthly art & craft event.  My table that month held shadow boxes, embellished greeting cards, altered tins, and such.  We bonded over a love of Graphic 45 papers.  I see her every once in a while and each time we lament that we've never actually gotten together for crafty time.

Margo, this one's for you.  You breathed life into this project and gave it purpose.  Thank you.  I hope to see you at November's 3rd Friday!

Here is the base. You'll see I was rubbish at taking photos of the steps, but this should help a little.

The small piece in front allows you to display a tag without it sliding forward.  Pretty clever design, if you ask me.  The kit includes the base as well as 6 tags.  The tags are all roughly 4" x 8" and the box has a generous amount of room, so embellishments weren't a concern.

There's even an Extra Tag Set available if you want to fill it up!

I painted the inside black and covered the outside with Renaissance paper and black acrylic paint.

The tags were covered with background paper using Mod Podge.  The edges were sanded and then inked with brown marker and a foam pad.

Each tag was assembled with scraps of G45 and embellishments.  I used a small cut of gears from the Steampunk Frame to enhance the Steampunk Spells tag.  (Visible in the top photo.)  I used a mix of browns and black embossing powders on the gears.

Happy New Years Tag and Card by Pam Bray

Happy New Year and "huge" Thank You to all of our Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts fans!!! We are always so excited when you come to the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Blog to see all the wonderful items that we create using Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts chippies!

Today I am sharing my combination New Year Tag and Thank You Card using Tags In A Box Display, Feathery Flourishes Set, Filigree Frame Shape Set, Damask Singles, and doilies. 

Adhere pattern paper to the top of one of the tags from Tags In A Box Display. Lay stencil on top of prepared tag; apply crackle paste with palette knife. Dry.

Paint Damask Singles and Feathery Flourishes Set with paint; allow it to dry.

Stamp the Feathery Flourishes Set with black paint; dry.

Adhere doily to top of tag.

Adhere prepared Damask Singles and Feathery Flourishes to the top of tag.

Emboss Filigree Frame using Boss Gloss and Rust Embossing Powder.

Add to top of tag with pop dots.

Add twine and silk bow to front along with the "Happy New Years" banner to complete tag.

For my Thank You Card....use the same designer papers along with the same techniques on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts chippies.

Adhere chippies to prepared card front.

Add "Thank You" sticker to front of card.

Add prepared frame to top of card.

Along with pretty bows.

Pretty Christmas Tags in a Box

Tags are such a great opportunity for embellishment, aren't they? Combine them with a box and the holiday season and the sky is the limit. As far as I'm concerned around Christmas time, if it's stationary, it's going to get glued and glittered! Lora Mahaffey here chatting about adding a little Santa and Christmas sparkle to your holiday decor!

I really like this Tags in a Box Display it's a good size box and is, of course, perfect for displaying your lovely holiday tags, but it's also perfect for storing and displaying the wonderful cards a girl has received over the years from friends and family. Some of them are just too gorgeous to pack away and forget. This box allows storage and you can rotate the cards and tags as it pleases you.

The tags were lots of fun to make....I used a lot of Dresden trim and made fun pockets and pouches to stick little presents in. Lots of glitter glue and ribbon give the tags sparkle and texture. You can't tell in the pictures, but they really glitter and glimmer with sparkly goodness!

I started out gluing the box up. I put one of those big rubber bands you get off of produce around the middle to keep it square.

While that was drying, I flipped a tag upside down and glued three craft sticks to it, making sure that the sticks were even at the bottom.

After both pieces dried, I gave them both a coat of gesso and then painted the inside of the box white with acrylic paint. I also painted the lower half of the 'pop sickle stick tag' so it blends in with the white inside of the box. Then I started covering everything with pretty papers.

I covered both sides of the tag half way down, so that it's looks finished from the back as well as the front.


Then, with a pair of scissors, I carved the back half of a 5-inch bottle brush tree off starting about a third of the way down the tree all the way in to the center wire and set it aside.

I then embellished the 'tag' and the box, decorated the tree and glued it into the box, making sure it was level at the bottom so that the whole thing was straight at the top. I apologize for not taking pictures of the last two steps. I got all into my little Christmas groove and sailed right on by the picture-taking opportunity.

Tag Box Birthday Reminder by Lynne

Hello there! One of the traits I'm known for is my absolutely terrible memory. I don't know how many times a day I say,  "now what did I come in HERE for??" If I go to the store for two things I'm bound to leave without at least one of them. And remembering to send birthday cards??? Well I'm sure you can guess I don't always manage that! I thought this little box with the tags was so cute and wanted to do something useful with it so I came up with the idea of creating a birthday reminder so that I'd (hopefully) never miss sending a card again!

The main sentiment of the Graphic 45 paper I used is "Let Them Eat Cake"...now,  I know the historical origin of the phrase-Marie Antoinette during the French Revolution-but the first thing I thought of is birthday cake (It just so happens I also love baking and cake decorating) so I thought it was the perfect paper for my project. The pocket on the one side is for extra paper strips for adding birthdays.

I attached the strips with repositionable adhesive so that I could move them around should I want to add  more names in the future,  as I wanted to keep them chronological. (I blurred the names of my birthday people to protect their privacy)

The lovely papers just begged to be fussy cut,  and I popped a lot of the cutouts up with foam adhesive. Adding bits of lace and cheesecloth and some die cut/punched foliage (as well as some lace and ribbon tied at the top)  was all I needed to finish my project. The ledge at the front of the box is  the perfect spot for this month's tag.

Facebook Challenge for April by Dianna

Hi everyone, Dianna here with a new Tag for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Craft Group Monthly Challenge.  The first of each month there is a new challenge.   This month's Challenge is an Inspirational Challenge, anything to do with spring.

All you have to do is become a member of the Craft Group on Facebook and submit your entry.  The winning entry will receive a $10.00 gift certificate to Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.

I painted the tag with white acrylic paint then punched a 3 inch scalloped circle and used it to daub clouds with three different colors of blue ink and a purple ink.  I then used the scalloped circle and texture paste to create the swirls.  I painted the grass with apple green paint and distressed the grass with green ink.  I painted the kite, little dancer, flower and spring with white acrylic paint.  I used Copic Markers to create the dress.  The trick is not to let the markers dry but keep going over it with different color to get the flowing dress.  I used chalk ink on the kite, flower and spring.

Facebook Challenge for March by Dianna

Hi Everyone, Dianna here with a new Tag for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Craft Group Monthly Challenge.  The first of each month there is a new challenge.  March is a color challenge and it is Green! Anything Green! 

All you have to do is become a member of the Craft Group on Facebook and submit your entry.  The winning entry will receive a $10.00 gift certificate to Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.

For this months Tag from the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts -Tags in a Box Display, I used Graphic 45 - Mother Goose for the Tag.  I then painted a light coating of white paint.  I then used a shamrock die, Graphic 45 - Humpty Dumpty and three different plain green papers.  There are about 50 shamrocks on this Tag.  I distressed all the shamrocks and used a light mist of waters to "shape" the shamrocks.

I painted the cauldron from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts - Be Witched Shape Set and cut off the feet.  I then painted it black, used black and green Stickles all over the cauldron.  I then used a medium hole punch and gold paper as coins.  The Irish girl is a stamp from Taylored Expressions colored with Copic Markers.  The flags are from a special order from Gyspy Soul Laser Cuts. The Best of Luck was cut out from Graphic 45 - Children's Hour - March.

Hello there, this is Trish Alger. I'm so excited to be a Guest Designer this month for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.  Here is my steampunk inspired tags in a box project:

GSLCuts has the most amazing chipboard elements. Great themes, with intricate detail, that are a fabulous springboard for our creativity. I'm in love with GSLCuts steampunk selection. Gears, gears, and more gears - delicate, lacy gear borders, chunky gear shapes, and lovely Victorian pieces to pair with. 

I needed some feminine gifts. The kind that had laborious value, not cost. In the project I chose, each woman can receive her own extra-large tag (with sentiment) to take home. I set the challenge to create my own metal gears out of chipboard, rather than hunt through my metal stash. Other than a few metal brads, I succeeded. I kept my palette limited to brown tones, ivory, black, and rusty gear metallics. 

Let's look through the steps of the tutorial.  You'll find the supply list at the end. Each piece was gessoed in black...

Or a coat of iridescent medium mixed with acrylic medium...

(Do yourself a favor and remove any lingering bits from the holes before covering it in medium.)

Some unbleached titanium for the dressforms...

Next I added some rust paint over the vanilla doily edges and cut to fit in the shape of a corset.

 

And some copper for the beautiful banner...

 

Then a bit of unbleached titanium over the letters...

Time to mix paint with acrylic medium and add some color...

I printed the Pocket Pages sentiments onto the vanilla linen paper and trimmed to allow six for the backs of the tags in the box. They were adhered with the acrylic medium.

 The inside of the box were gessoed black. The outside was painted with copper and the corset images (printed on vanilla linen paper) were adhered with acrylic medium. Doily edges were deconstructed to adhere with acrylic medium around the edges like a frame.

 I realized as I assembled the completed sides for box that I needed to be extra aware of the materials in the tab areas. That includes paper, paint, and mediums. Lots of sanding otherwise.
