Honeydukes Reimagined

I originally planned on turning one of the GSL Corner Room Boxes into a Honeydukes candy shop but changed my mind when I saw the Rotating 4 Scene Room Box. (Alpha stamps) After making a candy themed clock and Honeydukes display I realized I had way too many fun candy shop ideas to fit into a single room. Here's what I came up with.

The room box has a base, two interlocking pieces that make up the walls of the rooms, an 'X' shaped piece that goes at the top and four rectangular pieces that fit on the wall edges. It also comes with a lazy susan turntable to spin it. I painted all of the surfaces that weren't going to be papered with a base coat of gesso then a cream colored acrylic paint.  The piece was assembled using tacky glue.

I chose the black and cream Checkers paper from Graphic 45's Mother Goose collection for all of the room's floors. 

The papers I used for the walls were Recollections Light Pink Stripes, Bo Bunny The Avenues, Imaginisce Hey Foxy and a pink and white Random Dot from Paper Studio. 

The baseboards were made from tongue depressors. I used cutters to get them to size. A sanding block took the rough edges off. They were then painted cream and glued into place. 

I used Super Glue to adhere the turntable to the bottom before I started the decorating process.

The Honeydukes display case was placed into the pink striped room. I made a small wall shelf from one of the Mini Shadowbox Set boxes. I painted it to match the display case and filled it with jars of poly clay cane slices and some giant peppermint lollipops made from glass beads and wire. 

The clock was given it's own space that I decorated with Ella & Viv candy heart papers from their Candy Land Tray set into resin frames. The pink pots are holding snippets of plastic flowers. 

I knew I wanted to have a quiet space for the students to do their homework. That's the GSL Table & 2 Chairs 1:12 with a scrap of felt as seat cushions. I glued a hook on the wall for a student's owl cage. The 'Shhh' sign is made from free clip art I found online. 

 The table has a tea pot, two cups, a jar of candy (of course) and two miniature books. 

The last room was inspired by many of the places I took my girls when they were little. Lots of places that kids hang out have birthday party celebration rooms so I added one at my version of Honeydukes. The presents are made from papered wooden blocks and tiny bows, the cake is made of polymer clay, the heart balloons are made from acrylic vase filler hearts glued onto floral wire. The banner was printed using a Harry Potter font and glued onto baker's twine, held in place by heart shaped buttons.

The GSL Small Trinket Shelf Stand (coming soon) can be used to showcase all manner of tiny collections and themes. It's just perfect to decorate as a shop display and what shop is more fun than the Honeydukes Sweet Shop from Harry Potter? Let me take you through how it was done.

The piece is simple to put together. It has the back, two sides and four shelves.

Here are the pieces that assemble into the drawer that goes in the bottom of the shelf. I chose a small brad to use for the drawer handle.

Before gluing anything together, I painted the piece (except for the rear slot where the drawer goes) with teal acrylic paint.

Once it's glued together, all I had to do was a few touch ups. The sweet pink striped paper I selected for the shelves is from Graphic 45's Botanical Tea collection.

Now to fill the shelves! I started with polymer clay cane slices. You can sometimes find these in beauty supply stores in the nail art section. These came from Amazon.

I have a stash of small glass bottles I've collected over the years, many from dollar stores. The ones you see here with colorful shapes inside came from Dollar Tree. They are found in their nail polish section and were 8 for $1. What a bargain! 

For this project, I selected some I thought already looked like they had candies inside and just replaced the plastic stopper with something fancy. For that, I glued pearlized straight pins inside of metal beads with a dot of E6000. Once the glue was dried, I simply snipped off the pin shank with wire cutters.

Here is what they look like assembled. The larger Pink Coconut Ice jar contains a mixture of pink and white nail glitter. All of the labels for this project were found online. 

 I made the licorice wands and rainbow candy canes out of polymer clay.

 

The acid pops are balls of green polymer clay baked onto wire 'sticks' then rolled in glue and green glitter.

I had a few tall glass bottles and decided to layer a few alternating colors of microbeads inside. They look fancy.

Sugar skulls! So simple to make. Skull beads are coated in tacky glue, rolled in micro fine glitter and glued onto a bead. Their base is a scrabble tile covered with a paper scrap and a printed label.

I made a few display boxes from paper scraps lined with felt. The one on the left has white chocolate owls and poly clay cane heart slices. A dear friend sent me both the owl and frog molds I used in this project. She used silicon mold putty, an owl bead and a tiny Lego frog. So clever! The box on the right contains cauldron cakes made from polymer clay and microbeads.

Here's the top shelf all glued into place.  Polymer clay chocolate frogs are everywhere!

The middle shelf holds the rainbow candy jars. I added a few leaf beads that remind me of hard candy onto a miniature ceramic dish. Have a look around in your craft stash, you might be surprised what reminds you of tiny candy!

Create a fun Calendar shelf

It's time again for another fun project using a really fun product from Gypsy Soul Laser cuts called the "The Memo Board".  With a new year beginning it's a great time to start making fun little calendar projects to keep you up to date with things and keep life running smooth.  Not that it happens with me but I try my best and taking notes on calendars always seems to help me.  So for this I decided to make it a photo stand and a calendar so that I could give it as a gift.

1.To make this project you are going to first glue all the pieces in the Memo Board set together and let them dry.

2. Then you can use a light chalk paint that matches your paper to cover the front and let it dry and then the back and let that dry.  Sand around all the edges to distress them slightly.

3.  Then cut a piece of black paper that measures 8 3/4" x 8 ". Also cut another piece of silver paper that is 8 1/2" x 7 3/4".  On top of that goes that fun silver and aqua leopard paper that measures 8 1/4" x 7 1/2".  Glue them together and attach to the frame with double sided tape or adhesive.

4.  To make the frames use black cardstock and die cut three frames.  Make smaller white rectangles to fit inside for the photos. Attach them to your frame with 3D Foam squares.

5.  Find a calendar that fits and print it in white paper.  Mat each of the months with black paper.  Attach the first month with super sticky adhesive tape or with brads on the side.

6. Finish by adding pearls, ribbon and bling to match.

And here is a pretty photo of the bottom edge of the shelf part.  It's perfect to keep little things that get lost easy in your scrapbook room.

Trinket Stand by Lynne

I originally intended to use this little stand for craft supplies but when I saw how cute my little Red Rose tea figures looked on it I started to think maybe I'd leave them right there. Who remembers these cute little animals that used to come in boxes of Red Rose tea? There were also some nursery rhyme figures-like Little Bo Peep and Little Red Riding Hood but the animals were always my favourite.

I painted and inked the edges then covered the pieces with patterned paper before assembling it. I sanded the edges then rubbed a little dusty rose ink along them. The Graphic 45 brad I used as a knob had a verdigris finish so I created a similar finish with acrylic paints on the flourishes that were added to the two sides.

I fussy cut a butterfly from the paper and popped it up on the drawer. The style I went for on this project was simple but this wonderfully versatile piece could be finished in so many different ways and with a wide variety of mediums. Dice Shelf

Hey guys, Jess here! This week is our first game of Pathfinder with a new group, so I used this amazing shelf from GSLC to make a dice shelf to store and display my dice during the game.

 I've covered the shelf in this great fantasy map scrapbooking paper, just to add that extra Dungeons and Dragons edge.

 On the back I've painted the medium dragon from the Dragon Shape set and added some scales - you can never go wrong with adding a dragon.

 For the drawer pull I've painted one of the hinges from the hinge shape set gold and then affixed the hilt of one of those plastic swords you get when you order a Shirley Temple in restaurants.

 I reserve the top shelf for my D20, of course.

 And there's even a drawer to punish those dice that just refuse to roll higher than a 10.

And of course that same drawer can be used to store your dice until your next game.

Enchanted Forest Small Trinket Shelf by Pam Bray

Hi it is Pam today on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Blog. It been a Journey since the beginning of the year in my family and creative world. Today I am sharing a wonderful Small Trinket Shelf Stand using Graphic 45 Enchanted Forest...it seems that every time I look browse through the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Store I am enchanted by all the fun and inspiring pieces.

I began my Small Trinket Shelf Stand by first base painting all the pieces (front and back) with paint. Repeat with a soft pink paint.

 Stamp background image with black paint on both sides of the Small Trinket Shelf Stand.

Apply antiquing cream on prepared pieces, wiping off with a soft damp cloth. Allow to dry completely.

Repeat painting steps on Layered Flourish Renata. Allow to dry completely. Add to top of Small Trinket Shelf Stand. Fussy cut image from pattern paper, layer together with pop dots. Adhere to top of Small Trinket Shelf Stand.

Repeat "Journey" Wooden Word Charm using paint steps. Allow to dry completely. Adhere to front of Small Trinket Shelf Stand. Add random vial and small metal crown to shelf.

 Add a few flowers, metal dish and small bird to second shelf.

Create a few Small Tags using pattern paper to add to the inside of the drawer of the Small Trinket Shelf Stand.

 Place button on front of drawer.

 Place Small Tags inside of drawer.
