An Elegant Something-or-other

Last month when I made this Mermaid Silhouette Luminary, I had an extra frosted vase that demanded a little attention.

I grabbed a few supplies and ended up creating something very pretty and elegant in no time at all.

I simply painted pieces from the Mini Birds & Nests Shape Set, Scribble Frame Leaves, and a sentiment from the Word Tags Travel set, with a healthy layer of white acrylic paint. Then I added three white paper flowers.

Self adhesive foam squares provide a bit of depth to the layering of the different elements.

Now, I've called this a 'something-or-other' because you could use this as a candle holder, vase, center piece, and I'm sure a slew of other things. I think they'd be super pretty for weddings or showers, christenings, or even as a hostess gift. And while I love the all-white look, you could totally change this up to match your colour scheme.

Here's what you'll need to recreate this look:

• paper flowers
• self adhesive foam squares
• glue

Shine your Light

Hi Everyone,
Jess here today and I don't have a lot of steps out for this one because I was feeling a bit under the weather when I crafted and forgot to take photos.  I will still walk you through all the steps.

Cut a piece of paper large enough to cover your Large Chipboard Tag.  Using a piece of sticky fabric tape run it down the edge of you paper and stitch it on using your sewing machine.  Glue the paper to the tag.  Once your adhesive is dry cover the entire tag with clear embossing powder.  While the embossing powder is still hot using foil to add tiny bits of gold.

Paint your Wood Medallion using Mowed Lawn and Black soot Distress Paints.  Add gold accents using a gel pen.  Glue to the top of your tag.  

Paint your Scribble Leaves Frame using Mowed Lawn Distress Paint and buff with a bit of Dina Wakley Paint in Gilt.  

Using foam tape pop up your focal image and adhere her to the center of the tag.  Attach your scribble frame using a strong adhesive.

Glue down your sentiment and scribble around the edges using a Fude Ball Pen.  Add Distress Crayon in Black Soot to the edges of the tag. Add flowers to the woman's hair and to the tag.

Junk Journal featuring Queen Anne's Lace

Hi everyone, Jennalee here today with a quick junk journal featuring lots of fun Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts. When I saw the Queen Anne's Lace flower laser cuts I instantly knew I wanted to make a junk journal with them. You'll have to forgive me I got so caught up in the creating process I forgot to take step by step pics, but don't worry I'll walk you thru the process. Let's get started!!

The largest of the 3 Queen Anne's Lace flowers is the star of the layered and stitched cover. 

To color the flower paint a layer of Raw Umber. Allow to dry, Spray with a gold shimmer spray. Begin by adding random swipes of gesso using a palette knife to the front cover. Then stitch on a layer of green burlap. 

On top of the burlap layer and stitch scraps of vintage book text. Then glue on small pieces of ephemera. 

Run a decorative stitch down the edge of the cover. Alternately you could stamp a border along the edge. 

For the title page stitch together a collage of vintage book text. Glue onto first page. Emboss Scribble Frame Leaves. Determine the position of the frame on page. Paint a layer of gesso where frame will go to allow for the addition of a title to be added. 

Color the mid-sized Queen Anne's Lace piece the same as the piece used on the cover. 

For all pages of the junk journal tear or cut vintage dictionary pages to size. Add decorative stitching to edges of each dictionary page. Using a palette knife spread a layer of gesso across the text. This allows for a "blank" background for each journal page. Writing or collage can be added as desired. Glue each dictionary page into the journal.  

Emboss Printers Ornament Corners with Salted Wine. Glue to opposite corners. 

Color the smallest Queen Anne's Lace piece same as before. Glue into journal spread. 

To add some interest to the edges and draw people into your journal add some pieces that hang off the edge of the page. 

Emboss Meadow Flowers using Camo Ammo. Glue along bottom edge of the final page of journal. 

Here is a side view of all the chunky goodness peeking out. I absolutely love how the Scribble Frame Leaves hang out over the edge.

Floral Bird Reverse Canvas by Sandy Trefger

Hello everyone! Sandy here with a quick and easy step by step tutorial on how to create a reverse canvas piece to hang on your wall. You can create this with any regular blank canvas but rather than work on the front side, you work on the back side. 

So gather your supplies and let's get started!  Here's the list of supplies that I used:

• 8 x 10 canvas

• Art Basics Heavy White Gesso
• Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Lemon Sorbet, Spring Green, Aquamarine, Cosmic Brown, Indian Gold and Black Ash
• Texturez Artie Choked Green Paint
• Crackle Accents
• Emboss It Dabber
• Stampendous Gold Embossing Flakes
• Wow! Peppermint Tea Embossing Powder
• Black Soot Distress Ink
• Tim Holtz Wildflower Paper
• Jute Twine
• Prima metal ring findings
• 49 and Market Vintage Shade flowers "Ecru Bouquet" and "Blue"
• Beacon 3-in-1 Glue

Step 1:  Paint the back inside and the outer frame of the canvas with white Gesso.  Also paint the chipboard pieces.  Allow to dry completely.

Step 2: Rub Indian Gold Nuvo Embellishment Mousse onto the key.

Step 3:  Rub Cosmic Brown embellishment mousse on to the tails and bellies of the birds.

Step 4:  Also rub Cosmic Brown on to the vines of the Scribble Frame.

Step 5:  Rub Black Ash embellishment mousse on to the head and backs of the birds.  Tip: Use a damp baby wipe to help rub the mousse on and to remove any dark spots.

Step 6:  Rub Spring Green embellishment mousse on to the leaves of the Scribble frame.

Step 7:  Use a baby wipe to rub different shades of the Spring Green & Lemon Sorbet embellishment mousse on to the canvas to create the background.  Also rub some of the mousse on to the wood part of the canvas frame.

Step 8:  Also rub on some Aquamarine embellishment mousse to the canvas background and the wood frame.

Step 9:  Lightly brush paint the leaves with Texturez "Artie Choked" texture paint.  Dab some of the texture paint on to the canvas with a baby wipe.

Step 10:  Select and cut out a section of patterned paper, tatter the edges, ink if desired and fold crimp the edges a bit.  Glue down into the center of the canvas.  Add a good coat of Crackle Accents and attach the Scribble frame down over the patterned image and add Crackle Accent to the leaves and vines.

Step 11:  Measure and cut four strips of paper to cover the frame part of the canvas.  Miter cut the corners, glue to the frame and coat with Crackle Accents.  Allow to dry completely.

Step 12:  While the frame piece is drying, work on your birds and key.  Use an Embossing Dabber to add embossing ink and heat set gold embossing flakes on the key.

Step 13:  Again use the embossing dabber and emboss blue/green embossing powder ( I used Wow! Peppermint Tree) on to the bird heads and backs.

Step 14:  Use Beacon 3-in-1 glue to attach the birds and key to the bottom of the frame as shown.

Step 15:  Wrap jute twine around the bottom of the canvas and tie into a bow.

Step 16:  Glue an arrangement of flowers into the canvas piece and on to the lower left corner of the frame.  Also glue one flower to the top right corner. (Not shown)

Step 17:  Strategically add embossing ink and some of the gold embossing flakes to the birds, leaves and canvas background.  You may also add some on to the flowers.  Set with a heat gun.

Step 18:  Glue Prima metal findings to the top edge of the frame with Beacon 3-in-1 glue. Allow to dry completely.

Step 19:  Tie a length of the twine to the metal findings to create a hanger for your canvas.

It's finished and ready to hang or your wall or to give to someone special.
