Angel statue layout by Lynne

Hi friends! As you may recall, my son is going to grad school in China, and he recently sent me a bunch more photos; this one was taken at Tsinghua university in Beijing, where he went for  his Chinese language course (he is presently in Shanghai studying Chinese Economics) I thought this angel statue was so exotically beautiful:

The subtly patterned white paper was stencilled with texture paste and misted, then I tried out the terrific new foam stamps from Gypsy Soul Lasercuts! Now, I am soooo NOT a stamper, but these are easy to use and made a clear, crisp image. I love the look of background stamping on mixed media projects, and I'm looking forward to trying the other ones. This is a closeup of the crackle finish stamp used with teal ink.

I used dark green ink with this stamp to coordinate with the leaves I added to my page; again it's crisp and clear and I managed to use it several times without smearing anything!

I used this damask embossing folder on the Botanical Journaling Blocks to add a little texture.

I primed the pieces with white gesso, then used the Tattered Angels Naturally Aged Kit in Turquoise to finish them. The colours are a little more subtle over the gesso than they would be over a deeper colour or an unfinished surface, but I wanted the colour to coordinate fairly  closely with the colour of the statue in the photo. The kit consists of four bottles of either mist or glaze that are layered over each other while still wet to create a blended look.

I decided to rub a little teal ink over the cutout parts to make them stand out a little more and complement the stamping and misting on the background paper. I cut the smaller piece in half and attached the two halves in different spots

The corrugated part of the title piece was painted yellow, then lightly edged in teal ink. The word piece was painted white, then brushed with white glue and coated with the same type of glitter that is on the flowers.

12 x 12 layouts are still my first papercrafting love, and Gypsy Soul Lasercuts add so much interest and dimension to scrapbook pages! I love the great variety of pieces available and that there are so many different ways to finish them. I hope you enjoyed my page, and I wish you a terrific week!

Gypsy Journal with Gypsy Soul and 7Gypsies/Canvas Corp

Hey there crafty friends! I'm excited at the chance to combine goodies from two great companies to put together a fun project; as soon as I saw the 5x7 Naked Journal, I knew I wanted to work with it! I just happened to have some older 7Gypsies paper in my stash that worked great with the newer line, and I put it all together to create what I have called my "Gypsy Journal":

I used the burlap for the cover; I just love the natural, earthy feel and texture of burlap and thought it would create a great backdrop for the Botanical journalling block from GSLC and the other pieces I used.
I painted the journalling block gold, then brushed it with crackle finish; when that was dry I finished it with black acrylic paint and then ran jute through the holes along the edge.

On this page, the chipboard pieces were painted black, then heat embossed in clear before being treated with Dusty Attic Rust Paste and Prima Aged Brass Wax. I used crumpled pieces of a sewing pattern and some similar-coloured burlap as added embellishments.

For this page, the image from the paper takes center stage, but I added a music note which was heat-embossed first with Ranger Antiquities California Stucco, then Lindy's Adobe Fire. A tulle skirt and gemstone "sun" add some extra dimension.

This page features quotes from both the Wanderlust and Gypsy Moments collections-I love how well they work together! I covered the chipboard balloon in patterned paper, then sanded and inked the edges; the horseshoe was heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Copper embossing powder. The feather is real; I found it on the ground at work the other day!(I work at a golf course)

I started this page with an Architextures background, then used the Architextures baskets sticker and an image & quote from the Gypsy Moments paper as the focal points here. I then added the baggage ticket from the Wanderlust paper and the lasercut propeller and hasp. Both pieces were painted black, then rubbed with silver ink. It doesn't take much to alter your chipboard pieces to match any page theme or colour scheme; that's something I love about them!

The chipboard doodles here were painted black then heat-embossed with Lindy's Midnight Gold.

I absolutely loved this image from the Wanderlust paper but had a bit of a freakout when I realized I also loved something from the other side of the paper...(the struggle is real....sigh....) so I used the upper part of the image  and saved the rest for the following page! I thought these celestial pieces were perfect accompaniments to this image; the moon was dry-embossed with this Darice stencil, then painted antique white and brushed with Perfect Pearls. The stars were painted burgundy then brushed with Perfect Pearls as well.I dabbed a tiny bit of water onto my brush to make a paste with the powders.

I loved the door image along with the Milton Berle quote, so created a 2-page spread here. The Architextures wheel sticker was lightly brushed with Aged Brass wax, which I also used on the GSLC lock. The Parchment rub ons are fabulous; they go on so easily and are full of great images and quotes! By the way, I used packaging from the journal on this page-it's the beige patterned rectangle in the middle!

There are six pages left in the journal, and I plan to add quotes, images and embellishments I find that speak to me of the "free my gypsy spirit" theme. Give Thanks Home Decor Panel by Gloria

Hello, it is Gloria with you and I have a mixed media project to share. Mixed media does not always have to be "messy" or "artistic," it just needs to contain a mix of media! I created a home decor piece for Thanksgiving with some traditional items mashed together with mixed media techniques!

The panel is slightly larger than 8" x 8" and will fit on an easel or into a shadow box frame. I love to make this sort of decor because I can change it out with each new holiday or season.

Let's get started!

1. Cut one piece of chipboard to 8" x 8". Trim solid paper or cardstock to 8" x 8" and attach the piece to the chipboard. Trim coordinating printed paper to 7 3/4" x 7 3/4" and attach it to the square panel. Set the panel aside.

2. Remove the journaling blocks from the Botanical Journaling Blocks package. Using several colors of spray glitter mist, color all three pieces of chipboard and set it aside to dry. I used a combination of orange and gold mist. (My pieces looked like sparkly suede once they were dry!)

3. To make sure the pieces dry flat, place them between layers of paper toweling and weigh them down with some heavy books. Handle the wet pieces carefully to avoid tearing the delicate, laser-cut edges.

4. Attach the largest Botanical Jornaling Block in a vertical orientation to the center of the 8" x 8" panel. Use a strong glue and a brayer to assure that the panel adheres completely. Attach the middle-sized piece in a horizontal orientation to the square panel, making sure to place it at the extreme left edge and approximately 2" from the top edge. Attach the smallest journaling block in a horizontal orientation to the square panel, making sure to place it at the extreme right edge and approximately 3" from the top edge. Make sure that the shapes "hang off" the edges of the main panel.

5. Double-mat a 5 1/4" x 4" image and use foam adhesive to attach it 1 14" from the top edge and 2 1/2" from the left edge of the square panel. I used a stamped image colored with Copics. You could use a pre-made image or a photo for your project.

6. From the Feathers Shape Set, select three of the small feathers. From the Months Word Set select "November." From the Wrought Iron Miniatures Set select one section, as shown, Cover each element with embossing ink and heat emboss with various metallic embossing powders and enamels. I selected powders that looked rusty and aged.

7. From the Feathers Shape Set, select three of the larger feathers and spray them with glitter mist. Allow to dry, shaping the feathers slightly with your fingers.

8. Glue three of the feathers to the upper right corner of the image. Add a ribbon bow and some floral elements.

9. Glue a piece of the wrought iron fence to the upper left corner of the square panel. Glue the "November" chipboard to the left corner, overlapping the fence.

10. Glue another piece of fence to the lower left corner of the square panel. Glue three more feathers to the panel as shown, tucking the feathers under the left edge of the main image. Add some floral items as desired.

I used lots of Gina's items on my project this time. I have used some printed burlap fabric as my base and then layered on the chipboard pieces and embellishments.

 Here you can see the Words from the Word Stackers 2 Set and a lovely Fleur De Lis to add to the Parisian Feel of my project.
