Drive-In Movie Theater Tablet Holder

Happy Saturday, everyone! When I saw the GSL Tablet/Ipad/Phone Holder it's shape reminded me of a drive-in movie screen, and I was inspired to personalize it for my daughter for Christmas.

 The tablet holder comes in three easy to assemble heavy chipboard pieces. 

After gluing paper to the base, I used an x-Acto knife to remove the paper from the assembly slits and inked the edges.

I painted two small wooden blocks with a gray acrylic paint. These are going to provide a bit of additional support to the tablet.

I used Tim Holtz Idea-ology papers as well as the cheesy dancing concession snack intermission logo for the front, which I outlined in black dresden trim. The fun thing about this project is you could personalize it for anyone! The movie screen image could easily feature a screenshot of the recipient's favorite movie with the marquee on the back advertising it.

The rear was finished by gluing the marquee in place, supported by a stir stick painted black. The gray blocks were glued in place for stability.

Speaking of the marquee... it couldn't be easier to personalize. I found a marquee generator at this link and typed in my daughter's favorite cheesy movie title with a double feature of her favorite cartoon show.

A drive-in movie needs a few customers! I clipped the connector rings off of a few car charms and painted the wheels with black nail polish. After the tires dried, the cars were painted with Liquitex light body metallic paints. 

The cars were parked onto a strip of grass green wool felt sheet using E6000 glue.

Stained Glass Memories

Winter always reminds me of stained glass windows from time spent in the church of my childhood. I even loved how the simple frosted windows inside our poorly insulated country home seemed to shine like the grand cathedral windows I saw touring Europe. Two Quotes about stained glass windows are the inspiration for this artwork.

The easiest thing to do is throw a rock. It's a lot harder to create a stained glass window. I used to get upset at the people who threw rocks but now I'd rather spend my time building the stained glass windows. Jon Foreman

1.  Paint all of GSLC pieces with black acrylic paint and a paintbrush. I am using 2 Arabian Frames, 1 8 inch Arch Frame, Phone Holder, and Gothic 6 inch border.

 

2.   Use Versa Mark and Ice Resin Enamels Chartreuse, Copper Glitz, Tarnished Bronze, and Torched Copper, and a Heating Tool to randomly distress outside frames and gothic fence.

3.  Tone it all down with a glaze of matte varnish and Quinacridone Gold Acrylic Paint.

4.  Carefully make photo copies of stained glass windows to fill the frames you have just embossed.

5.  Make transparencies of stained glass window patterns once again make sure they will fit inside your frames.
6.  Use a marker to outline your images and transparencies and cut out carefully.

 

7.  Glue Stained Glass images to back portion of frames.
8.  Use a black sharpie to distress the edges of each image.

9.  Now add the stained glass pattern transparencies on top of these images once again edging the sides with a black sharpie.
10.                Use Weldbond to glue top frame portion onto stained glass sandwiches.

11.                Use clamps to hold frames securely in place.

12.                Once dry use small screws and a screwdriver to assemble your stained glass triptych.

 

13.                This will now be secured to the back section of the GSLC Phone holder using a hand drill to make holes and secure with small screws and screwdriver.

14.                Place the back portion of the GSLC holder gluing with Weldbond.

 

15.                To further secure and add stability I applied a hinge to the back using small screws and a screwdriver.

16.                Glue Gothic Border to front portion of GSLC Phone holder cut off extra portions.

17.                Clamp together securing into place.
18.                Glue this into the slots provided.

Phone Stand

Hi everyone, its Angela here today with you to share a Phone Holder that I made.

Firstly I laid out my pieces and knocked out the slots, then I took a silver Painters marker and painted all the edges with it along with a line around the outside of the top and bottom of each piece.

Next I laid out the pieces on a sheet of 12 x 12 paper and cut around them with a sharp knife, turned them over and cut again. This gave me a piece for each side.

The first piece I put together was the bottom as this has the slots in it. I applied glue to the paper and placed it on one side of the bottom of the stand. I then turned this over onto a cutting mat and used a sharp knife to cut the slots in the paper on the top side of the stand.

Once I had cut the slots I glued on the piece I had cut for the other side. I used a brayer to ensure the paper was stuck down well. I then stuck the paper to the other pieces of the stand.

I used some embellishments from Momenta to decorate the pieces. 

I decided that this would be a portable stand so I haven't glued it together. I just put a band around it and keep it in the bag it came in.

Halloween Mini Album with Stand

Well hello there friends and crafty peeps! I've got a great Halloweeny project to share today that I had an absolute blast creating.  Might be a record for the number of chippies I was able to add.  I stared with the  Tablet/Phone Stand but instead of using it for it's intended purpose I'm decorating it up to hold a fun and festive Halloween mini album.

 Isn't this just the most spooktacular addition to holiday decor?

The holder looks just as festive without the book. I super love the vintagy pumpkin.

The cover has a layered frame finished to coordinate with the image and patterned papers.

The base of the book is an ATC Folder which has the pockets already built in! Each pocket  holds a tag layered up with the papers and vintage images.

Each pocket also has a folded insert to add loads of real estate for pictures and journaling.

The insides of the inserts have the coordinating papers.

Each insert also has a clip to hold mementos that can be added without gluing them down.

This stand is so perfect for holing the mini album without the worry of it tipping over.

I'm starting with the Tablet/Phone Stand and the ATC Folder. Wipe them down with a damp cloth to prepare them for finishing. I coated them with flat black acrylic paint. I've also got a Doodle Frame Rectangle ready for altering.

The frame needs to be separated to finish. I chose to coat the smaller bits with silvery embossing powder and heated it to set. The inside of the frame is coated in the black paint then stamped with a clear embossing powder and set again. This creates a very subtle effect that's similar to damask pattern.  I've clipped the bottom off the Wrought Iron Fence and trimmed it to fit the front of the holder. I've also brought in some Mini Petal Corners and a pumpkin from the Spooky Shape Set.

The silver embossing powder works for the fence and corners. I've adhered them to the stand then used a metallic paste wax to add a vintgy detail to all the corners. The front of  the pumpkin is covered in orange paint and the back has black. I adhered the pieces then used my alcohol markers to add detail. The leaves have green paint. On the finished project I added Stickles to highlight the details.

ladies and gents, hold the phone

Hello everyone, it's hard to believe that August is here already. I know that during these summer months it can be very busy, so today I am sharing a fairly simple project that makes a big impact. I have been meaning to make up one of these tablet/iPad/phone holders since I received it in my DT box. I often put my phone down while I am working and when it is time to snap a quick progress photo, it is buried beneath all of my supplies. I hope to alleviate this issue with this steampunk inspired phone holder. Since I have two of these in my stash, I thought it would be fun to create a his and hers version.

The sturdy chipboard tablet/iPad/phone holder arrives flat in three separate pieces.

I want the finished pieces to have a steampunk/industrial look, and since I will be making a his and hers version, I think the Steampunk Lady and Steampunk Gentleman will be the perfect addition to each holder. Both of these GSLC pieces are fabulous. Each comes in a pack of two, this project only uses one so I will put the second lady and the second gentleman away for another day.

 I paint the side of the heads that will be showing on the front of the holder with distress paint in walnut stain and allow to dry. Once dry, the back side of each head is painted with black soot distress paint and set aside. I select some pattern papers from the French Industrial paper Stash that coordinate with my theme. I choose to combine different patterns for each of the planes of the holder. This could also be made with a large sheet of single pattern paper if you prefer. I like the interest of having different patterns, yet keeping them all within the same color family. I measure the pieces to be covered and cut the paper to size. It is alright if the paper overhangs a bit when you adhere it to the chipboard, this can easily be cut off with a craft knife. The most important thing to remember is not to adhere paper to the tabs of the pieces that will be secured into the base. The papers are adhered to the chipboard with collage medium. I add a layer of grunge to the surfaces as well as the edges with distress inks.

Since the front stop pieces are now complete, I go ahead and secure these into the base with a multi-purpose adhesive. These are set aside to dry while I complete the uprights for each holder.

To give the heads a more vintage feel, I add a layer of black soot distress paint on the walnut stain colored side and gently wipe it off before it dries. Knowing that the holders will be serving a function, I want to ensure that the embellishments I add are not too invasive, thus keeping things clean and simple. I decide to add a few additional cogs and gears to adorn the lady and gentleman. Using one of my favorite GSLC sets, the Steampunk Shape Set, I select a few pieces for each head that work well with the scale. I also select two clock hands to add under my titles on each holder. I emboss all of these pieces with charred gold embossing powder and secure them in place.

Each holder has a title. The words "LADIES" and "GENTS" are made with alpha parts. Beneath each title I adhered and embossed clock hand.

Once each upright was completely dry, I secured it into place by adding multi-purpose adhesive along the edge that attaches to the base and to the tabs, then inserting them into the respective slots in the base. The lady and gent are standing tall and the phone holder is ready to be put to use.
