Woodland Fairy Crown

Hello this is Yolie with my first Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts project. Today I am sharing my version of a woodland Fairy crown using GSLC's Crown.

I prepared the Crown pieces with Golden Gesso and allowed to dry.

Next, I generously added White Crackle Texture Paste. Lots of peeks and valleys as I wanted large crackles and smaller ones too. The thick peeks will result larger crackles while the thinner valleys smaller. Allow to dry, no heat gun. It took about 45 minutes to completely dry.

While I waited for the Crackle Paste to dry, I prepared the intricate scroll piece with Copper Kettle Metallic Lustre. I applied it carefully as to not bend any of the scrolls. Once it dried, I took a cotton cloth to polish.

Now that the Crackle Paste dried, I used Alfalfa acrylic paint. I covered the piece completely and before it dried, I took a paper towel to remove the paint allowing paint into the cracks.

Here I used Dark Brown with a bit of black to cool the color. Using the same method mentioned above, I painted just a few spots and then quickly removed the paint with a paper towel.

Finally, I embellished the crown with gems, pearls, stones, flowers, crystals, gold glass glitter and flowers. I adhered the embellishments with a hot glue and Heavy Body Gel.

A Floral Crown Fit For A Diva

Hello friends!  It's Susan, here to share a fun project with you.  I've had a crazy week and this Crown is just the thing to refocus myself on ME (if only for a day!).

The crown kit comes with all these pieces -- enough for two crowns or one ornate one!  For this project I went for the tall one and will save the fancy one for a more delicate crown.

I tore up sheets of French-themed paper and collaged them with Modge Podge.  Once dry, cut around the edges with scissors.

I used a white wash -- a mix of white acrylic paint and water -- on both pieces.  matte varnished finished it off.  I also painted the inside of the pieces pale green.

I attached the back differently on each side.  The first with eyelets and ribbon, and the second with oversized brads.  In both cases I used a Crop-A-Dile for the holes, and to attached the eyelets.

I added silver tinsel to the edges and loads of flowers.  All the flowers!!

Hip, hip, hooray for birthdays!

Hi Everyone,

Jess here today with a crown fit for a rusty queen.

I don't want to admit it, but I have a rather big birthday coming up.  I thought maybe having a crown would ease the pain a bit.  I'm not a frilly girl.  I'm a grungy girl and my crown needs to fit me. 

I started by covering my crown with tons of vintage paper.  I used old dictionary pages, sheet music, catalog pages, shorthand practice sheets, and more.  I used collage medium to adhere it to the crown and once it was dry I cut it down.   

I then added lots of Distress Stains and Inks in blues, greens, and browns.  Once the base colors were down I went back with Distress crayons to highlight edges.  

To make the fancy front piece I used  Baked Texture embossing powders.  I glued on the front piece and let it sit overnight. 

I had this cool old door plate that I adhered to the crown using brads.  

I added an old bingo number to the center of the door plate. 

I added metal flowers, with a bingo marker I colored using Distress Oxides and Baked Texture powders, to each side of the crown.

The inside of the crown is lined with graph paper.  You can see here I attached the band using tiny staples.

This was really simple to make and you could really use this crown in so many ways.  I hope you enjoyed my grungy take!

The Make and Take Ladies Make Crowns

Hi Folks, Lora here to share a fun experience I recently had teaching a class on making the wonderful Crown designed by Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.
I teach a crafty class the last Friday of every month called Make and Take. It's a three or four hour class with a different art project from month to month. I supply all the bits and pieces for each project and the skills needed and everybody goes home with a completed project.
The classes are usually held at The Reynolds Homestead, which is a Commonwealth Campus Center of Virginia Tech.
This month we had our first ever class at the Creative Arts Center, an extension of Reynold Homestead located downtown.
It was a great success!

Some prepping was done before hand. I spray painted all the component parts of the crowns....

It was a beautiful sunny day. Perfect for painting outdoors.

 There was some intense crafting going on....

And lots of hamming for the camera.

It was a great class and it never ceases to amaze and delight me at the end of the day when everyone is finished, how different all the projects are.

Sometimes You Need a Crown

Hola everyone! Lora here taking my turn in the wonderful world that is Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts
Crowns. Sometimes you just need one.
Mothers Day, Birthdays, International Wear a Crown Day.
I don't think there is such a day, but why not?
And there are some days, draggy, blah days, days of gloominess where a crown would perk you right up, give you that extra boost of confidence.
What about exam days?
Laundry Days? Dental appointments? Grocery shopping?
Mondays.
Any occasion, any reason is a good one to wear a crown. Makes you feel like you can tackle anything, like going to the zoo with an entire Kindergarten class or walking into a bio hazard area like a teenagers bedroom.
So go ahead, put the crown on....you'll be so glad you did!

 So very....pink. For some reason, this shade was singing a little 'I'm so pretty' siren song to me. MacGyver says it reminds him of a Hawaiian princess, so I'm gonna go with that.
It even looks pretty nice from the back, because you can't have too many flowers.

Here's where I started out.....

I then used the crown pieces as templates and cut my paper, glued it on the appropriate pieces and painted the fancy top layer white.

I glued the skinnier pink strip to the bottom of the fancy cut layer for extra strength and when it dried, I glued it to the large base layer. I glued the wide strip that wraps around the back of the head on ONE SIDE ONLY of the crown front. The reason being, that it is much easier to embellish on a flat surface than a curved one.
I also added a couple of brads for extra strength at the attachment point and do the same thing when I complete the circle and you can see that in the picture below.

But while the piece is flat is the time to add all of your chosen embellishments. I went a little nuts with the pearls and sparkly Stickles. It was fun!
I left little spaces at the top of the points so there was room to glue on flowers.

I piped some lime green and orange peel Stickles around the fancy cut piece and flower centers.

 Added some dot detail with Opal White Liquid Pearls to tie in with the pearl strands.....

And voila! A crown fit for a princess! Or a soccer mom, or a CEO. You get the idea......

Mermaid dreams

Hi Everyone ,
I am a sucker for mermaids. I decided to break out my chipboard mermaid stash to create a mixed media canvas.

 I started with a 5x7 canvas board( I added a skimpy layer of gesso to the board) and several paint colors.  I used my fingers to smear on the paint.

 Once the paint dried I added Glimmermists in several colors.  I sprayed them really close to the board and let them run down.  I dried them with my heat tool.

Next I grabbed my Mixed Media Fragments and used the circle piece.  I painted and sprayed it until I got a good green color.  I added a bit of tan using a sponge just to break up the greens.  Using a stencil I pounced my embossing ink through the stencil and then added Burnt Copper Leaves embossing powder.  I reheated some areas of the embossing powder and added gold foil.  I glued the fragment to the board.

I chose one of the larger Mermaid images and embossed her using Onyx Frost Powder.  To make her tail shimmery colors I used Perfect Pearls.

The Crown was finger painted using the Distress Paint and then embossed with Fractured Ice Embossing Powder. I used sticky backed pearls for the jewels.  You will see on the final photos that I changed some of the jewels and I used real stones instead.  

Once I glued all of the bits on the board I added in some rubs ons and scribbled some gel pen.
