Wicked Halloween Wall Art

Hi there, this is Elle (AKA Empire of the Cat) with my first post for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and I hope you like it!  This is a quick and easy to make Halloween decor item that would look great hanging on your wall for this and future Halloweens! I love Halloween, so of course my first post would have to be a Halloween project!

Here's how to do it:

 

You will need the following items from GSL:

31 Wall Art - Model D42A
Title - Wicked - Model BB5
Spiderweb Shape Set - Model C156B

 

How to - prep:

First of all, wipe down all the pieces, then cover your chipboard items in black gesso and leave them to dry (it dries very quickly).

Then using your favourite embossing ink, sponge it on to the front of each piece and while it is still wet, dust them all with embossing powder. It takes very little powder to cover all the pieces.

This particular powder has black and gold in it, but you can use whatever colour you want your finished piece to be.  Heat with a heat gun until it has melted and it will start to look like this:  

  Wait a few minutes for the embossing powder to cool before touching the pieces!

 How to - Assembly:

Use something pointy like an awl or a craft tool to poke two holes in the bottom of the "31" from front to back as it's neater that way.  This is where we will attach the "wicked" title so position them so that the holes will line up with loops in the letters where you will be able to tie the thread that links them together. Eyeballing it is fine, no need to measure anything.

Repeat the process with the medium sized web from the Spiderweb shapes set, making a hole above and below where the web will hang. I used silver metallic thread but you could use any kind of thread, invisible thread, thin wire etc. When you have everything positioned, tie the threads and secure the thread ends with a spot of glue.  Below I am using something heavy to hold them in place while they dry but it will only take a few minutes if you want to hold it in place instead. Once the glue has dried and is holding the thread in place, snip off the surplus.

 All that remains is to add some kind of hook to enable your lovely new Halloween wall art to be hung on the wall.  You could use anything for this, a loop of thread, a paperclip, or something recycled like this plastic piece from a paper pad which is intended for shop display, so why not reuse it as the hook for this display piece!  These "hooks" are quite commonly used in papercrafts so you are likely to have at least one stuck on a box somewhere.

Peel it carefully off the pad and then glue it on to the back of your piece where it will not be seen when it's on the wall and once the glue is dry - it's ready to go!

Rare Oddities 31 Wall Hanging by Pam Bray

Happy Saturday Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Fans!!! Pam here today on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Blog sharing my Rare Oddities 31 Wall Art using some amazing GSLaser Cuts Chippies!!!

Begin by first paint the 31 Wall Art with black paint; dry.

Apply Weathered Wood to top of 31 Wall Art; dry and then paint with gesso.

Paint the 31 Wall Art bats from the Creepy Critters Set and Creepy Sign Post with a wash of paint; dry. Shade with paint. Add detail lines with pen.

Adhere pattern paper to top of 9" x 12" chipboard. Adhere pattern paper behind the Brick Wall Medium Sheet; adhere to top of prepared chipboard.

Adhere paint 31 Wall Art to top of prepared chipboard along with plastic spider.

Adhere Creepy Sign Post to top of prepared 31 Wall Art.

Fussy cut image from pattern paper; adhere to top of 31 Wall Art. Die cut flowers, form and add to 31 Wall Art. Adhere bats from the Creepy Critters Set.

Add wire and ribbon to top of 31 Wall Art  for hanger.

Mixed Media: 31 Wall Art Halloween Decor

Welcome all!  Barbara here today with a hauntingly spooky canvas wall hanging for Halloween.  I love mixed media and I seem to always be learning new ways to combine it.  When I saw this 31 Wall Art chipboard piece from Gina's Designs Lasercuts, I knew it would make a fabulous home decor item for Halloween.  

Paint the 31 Wall Art piece with black acrylic paint.  

Add a layer of coarse texture gel to the numbers only.  Add a few details to the cat.

Add a wash of Interference Gold fluid acrylic over the numbers.  Glue a piece of shiny gold card stock behind the cat's eye's and nose openings for a spooky effect.

Use your finger to add a Patina Green antiquing cream,  then hit the high spots with a black antiquing cream. 

And here is a close-up picture of that ghoulish texture.

Now to prepare the canvas background.  Paint an 8x10 canvas with black chalk paint.

Tear a piece of spiderweb scrapbook paper slightly smaller than the canvas and adhere with white glue.

Paint randomly, as shown, with black acrylic paint.  

Combine 80% Crackle Paste with 20% Cadmium Red Hue acrylic paint and spread over painted areas with spatula, let air dry so cracks will form properly.  

Brush a light coat of the Cadmium Red Hue over the cracked areas.

Still not quite orange enough, so I sponged over with Primary Yellow.

Sponge over the cracks with Quinachridone Violet, than apply a light coat of  Acrylic Burnt Umber for depth and dimension.  I also added it to the paper.

Cut the hanging spider and witch's hat from the Border: Halloween set and paint black.  Also paint the largest spider web from the Spiderweb Shape Set.

I used my finger to dab a mix of Phthalo Green-Yellow with Primary Yellow, then applied Stickles Lime Green glitter glue, as shown.  I also added a red dot to the body of the hanging spider and adhered each to the canvas, as shown.

I painted a hat band with a mix of Burnt Umber and Titanium White.  Details were added to the hat with a dry brushing of Interference Gold.

BOO! Halloween Wall Decor

Hi there and happy October! Lynne here with a Halloween-themed project. I'm not especially big on Halloween, but as soon as I saw this piece with the awesomely scary kitty I knew I had to play with it! Gina always manages to come up with something so unique and creative for every occasion, season and crafting style!

I covered the "31" portion of the piece with patterned paper sanded the edges using the wonderful and handy Sandits tools; they're like a big Q-tip and are so much easier to use than trying to get into small areas with a hunk of sandpaper! I then used crackle finish over the paper and inked it lightly to make the cracks show up more and inked the edges a little more heavily.



The raven was painted black with acrylic paint  then embossed with clear embossing powder; he looks much shinier in person than he does here.

                                    

I used flocking to add furry texture to the cat and here's a word of advice from me which is tried and true many times over....always ALWAYS (as in every single time!) paint your item in the colour of your flocking before you add it-no matter how careful you are there are sometimes thin spots where the colour of your chipboard might show through a little, but if it's painted no one will be any the wiser-trust me on this one!!

I also painted the pumpkin and the cornstalk with a acrylic paints then drew on a few details for added realism. The letters at the bottom were simply attached to a piece of jute which I tied onto the project.

Hello to you all. Today Shanna here and I have a home decor project to share with you. I wanted to create something fun for right when you walk in my house as the weather is cooler and the kids are playing indoors more. I had fun playing with several different mediums for the background but the chipboard part was so fun.

I painted the Boo with some ivory and white paint for a textured look.

The 31 Wall Art is new! There are so many cool things you can do with this! For the date I wanted a  crackle effect. I painted the base color with grey, then this cool crackle paint (Martha Stewart brand) and then I went over that after it dried with black.

I used a very dry brush over this so that way there was still splotchy grey areas.

I loved how the background looks like oozing blood for the scary effect. Okay maybe not really scary.  

I had to soften it up with some flowers I have including some black roses. My favorite thing to do is to add some cardboard behind things to give them dimension. So this popped off the canvas.
