Colorful Cameos-A Peek-a-Boo-Project

Cameos are traditionally carved from carnelian or sardonyx shells or from mother of pearl and are usually white to ivory in color with a darker contrasting background. I wanted to give them a makeover and this is the inspiration of this installment.
1.  Organize the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts-Fashion Cameos Set into sets of your choosing.

 

2.  Use Metallic Embossing Powders of Gold, Hammered, Pewter, Burnt Copper Leaves and Oil Rubbed Bronze to coat and seal the bottom portion of the GSLC Fashion Cameos-This will become the frame portion.

3.  Once dry use a dry brush technique to add bits of copper acrylic paint to these frame portions.

4.   Use Ice Resin Iced Enamels of Chartreuse, Turquois, Carnelian, and Raspberry to coat and seal the center portion of the GSLC Fashion Cameos-this will become the background for your fashion figurine.

5.   Use Black Sparkle and Super Nova Embossing Powders to coat and seal the GSLC Fashion Figurines.

6.   Now it is just a matter of assembling your GSLC Fashion Cameos layering each and gluing together using Weldbond.

7.  Carefully weigh down each GSLC Fashion Cameo with a bag of kitty litter or other weighted object to keep them pressed together until they are dried fully.

Fashion Forward by Barb

I have a secret love of sewing. It's how my hands-on creativity began decades ago. I still sew or quilt now and then, but it has largely fallen by the wayside in lieu of painting and rubber stamping. One day I will have a room just for sewing, where I can leave out my machine and fabric and not worry about anything getting splattered. Until then, I'll splatter stuff that can take it - like these adorable dress forms from Gina's Designs.

The background was easy enough. I began with a thick layer of gesso and while it was still wet, I smooshed lace and punchinella and rick rack. Without waiting for the gesso to thoroughly dry, I used a stencil and slathered on Creative Medium in silver and gold. Finally, I set it aside to dry completely.

For the dress forms, I coated the "body" with black acrylic paint that I stamped with white craft ink once dry. I painted the stands with StazOn Studio Glaze. 

The corset was coated with glittery embossing powder which I then heat set.

The other two forms were finished by simply adding bits of left over lace, ribbon, rhinestones and flowers. The "skirt" below was made from a peacock feather.

Now, if I could just clear some space for my sewing machine...
