Birthday Cards to start the new year . . .

I've been on a roll making birthday cards for 2019. My goal is to have some cards on hand for future use. This card uses 2 Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts beauties: Swirl Medallion Small and Butterflies & Dragonflies.

Beginning with the Medallion, I first gave it a coat of Picket Fence Stain and once that was dried, topped it off with gold acrylic.

Of course, you wouldn't have to stain it with Picket Fence but it will make the gold acrylic a bit brighter than painting over raw chip.

Next, it was the butterflies turn. Choosing one from the Butterflies & Dragonflies collection, I used VersaMark ink on top of the raw chip and then sprinkled it with Peacock embossing powder from sparklensprinkle.

I made flowers using some of the papers from Prima's Georgia Blue paper collection, Heartfelt Creations flower die and the 3D Shaping Molds. Those molds make shaping flowers so easy!

Here are the steps for putting the card together:

Base: Navy cardstock 8.5 x 5.5. Score at 4.25. Fold

Front of card:
  • Layer 1: Cut a piece of decorative paper 4-1/8" x 5-3/8". Using a gold leaf marker, go around the edges of the decorative paper with the gold leaf. Adhere to front of base.
  • Layer 2: Cut a piece of decorative paper 3-1/4" x 4-3/4". Gold leaf the edge and apply to layer 1, raising up layer 2 with either chipboard or crafty foam tape.
  • Add elements as shown in the photo, raising up the Medallion with crafty foam tape.
  • Punch a circle out of leftover decorative paper. Add to the center of the medallion and then place the butterfly onto the circle, adhering the butterly only at its body (not wings).
I added a string bow in the lower left corner and beads in the center of each flower. Add a sentiment on the inside and you're ready to go!

Thanks for visiting today.
